Second Form: Water Wheel (弐にノ型かた 水みず車ぐるま Ni no kata: Mizu Guruma?)[6] - The user leaps forward into the air and performs a front flip, releasing a singular vertical slash in a circular motion. Second Form: Improved, Lateral Water Wheel (弐にノ型かた・改かい 横よこ水みず車ぐるま Ni no kata kai: Yoko Mizu Guruma?)[7] - An alternate variation of Second Form: Water Wheel created by Tanjiro Kamado that unleashes a horizontal spin instead of a vertical one. Third Form: Flowing Dance (参さんノ型かた 流りゅう流りゅう舞まい San no kata: Ryūryū Mai?)[8] - The user swings and bends their blade in a winding motion along with their body and dances in a flowing pattern, slicing everything in its path. Fifth Form: Blessed Rain After the Drought (伍ごノ型かた 干かん天てんの慈じ雨う Go no kata: Kanten no Jiu?)[11] - The user changes the grip on their sword and decapitates the opponent in a single flowing strike that causes little to no pain. It is a “sword strike of kindness” used when the enemy willingly surrenders. Sixth Form: Whirlpool (陸ろくノ型かた ねじれ渦うず Roku no kata: Nejire Uzu?)[12] - The user twists their body, using their blade to perform a fierce whirling motion which generates a whirlpool of air to shred apart anything caught within its current like a giant sharp blade. Its effect and efficiency is enhanced underwater, where the user can draw water around their weapon to create whirling currents that enhance their slashes. Whirlpool, Flow (ねじれ渦うず・流りゅう流りゅう Nejire Uzu - Ryūryū?)[13] - A combination of Third Form: Flowing Dance and Sixth Form: Whirlpool created by Tanjiro Kamado. The user combines the footwork from Flowing Dance and the twisting movements of Whirlpool, performing an attack around the user that conjures a twisting, swirling, vicious flow of water to redirect projectiles from multiple angles. Seventh Form: Drop Ripple Thrust (漆しちノ型かた 雫しずく波は紋もん突づき Shichi no kata: Shizuku Hamon Tsuki?)[14] - The user performs a precise, fast and accurate thrust with their blade. Eighth Form: Waterfall Basin (捌はちノ型かた 滝たき壼つぼ Hachi no kata: Takitsubo?)[16] - The user cuts the target vertically in a flowing motion which is most effective when they are falling downward. Ninth Form: Splashing Water Flow, Turbulent (玖くノ型かた 水すい流りゅう飛沫しぶき・乱らん Ku no kata: Suiryū Shibuki - Ran?)[17] - The user changes their footwork in a way that minimizes the landing time and surface needed when landing, allowing the user to move without limits. Ideal when fighting in a place with no solid foothold. Tenth Form: Constant Flux (拾じゅうノ型かた 生せい生せい流る転てん Jū no kata: Seisei Ruten?)[18] - The user charges toward the target whilst performing a continuous flowing attack with their blade which increases in strength and speed over time using momentum. Eleventh Form: Dead Calm (拾じゅう壱いちノ型かた 凪なぎ Jū Ichi no kata: Nagi?)[19] - The personal creation of the current Water Hashira, Giyu Tomioka. The user ceases all body movements and enters a state of complete tranquility, deflecting, blocking and cutting any incoming attacks with imperceptible speed with their blade. However, its effectiveness is limited as fast and numerous attacks can break through

The user performs Thunderclap and Flash eight times in quick succession while slightly augmenting the power and speed of his dashes. Godspeed (神しん速そく Shinsoku?)[8] - An extension of the Thunderclap and Flash technique created by Zenitsu. The user performs Thunderclap and Flash while greatly augmenting the speed of the technique. During the first display of this technique, an unconscious Zenitsu remarked that he mustn't perform this technique more than 2 times, otherwise his legs would be rendered useless due to muscle fatigue and exhaustion. However, during the battle against Muzan Kibutsuji, Zenitsu has shown improvement in the proficiency of this technique, allowing him to use it more than 2 times while still maintaining the power and speed of the technique. Second Form: Rice Spirit (弐にノ型かた 稲いな魂だま Ni no kata: Inadama?)[9] - Kaigaku releases five arched slashes accompanied by lightning in quick succession. Sixteenth Form: Moonbow, Half Moon (拾じゅう陸ろくノ型かた 月虹げっこう・片かた割われ月づき Jū Roku no kata: Gekkō - Katawaredzuki?)[12] - Using his altered katana, Kokushibo swings upward, sending six curved slashes crashing down several meters in front of him, powerful enough to leave craters in their wake.

Breath of the Sun Number of Forms – 12 Forms

Known Users – Tanjiro Kamado, Yoriichi Tsugikuni, Tanjuro Kamado, Sumiyoshi

Branch Styles – Every Breathing Style

The Breath of the Sun is the strongest and the best breathing Style in Demon Slayer and can be considered the original or parent style for the rest.

It is an ancient and yet-to-be-seen swordsmanship style that the first Demon Slayer used. It later branched into Breath of Flames, Breath of Water, Breath of Wind, Breath of Stone, and Breath of Thunder, serving as a foundation for many more.

All Breathing Styles in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Explained Tanjiro Kamado | Source: Fandom The Breath of the Sun users were claimed to be extinct, but the existence of Hinokami Kagura (Dance of the Fire God) ensured its survival.

The breathing style and earrings were then secretly passed on from father to son in the Kamado family.

There are 12 forms, and after meeting Muzan Kibutsuji, Yoriichi perfected his form and created an anonymous 13th form

Dance (円えん舞ぶ Enbu?)[5] - The user performs a singular downwards vertical slash in an arcing motion. Dancing Flash (円えん舞ぶ一いっ閃せん Enbu Issen?)[6] - A modified version of Dance developed and utilized only by Tanjiro Kamado. The user combines the fundamental technique of Thunder Breathing with the high-powered slash of Dance by inhaling huge amounts of oxygen, increasing the pumping of blood through the entire body, focusing it on the legs, and releasing it all to assault the target with a slash. This technique was capable of out-speeding Genya Shinazugawa, Nezuko Kamado, and Hantengu. Clear Blue Sky (碧へき羅らの天てん Heki-ra no Ten?)[7] - The user spins and twists their upper body in a circular motion, releasing a 360° slash. Raging Sun (烈れつ日じつ紅こう鏡きょう Retsujitsu Kōkyō?)[8] - The user unleashes two consecutive horizontal arcing slashes around themselves to strike incoming attacks. Burning Bones, Summer Sun (灼しゃっ骨こつ炎えん陽よう Shakkotsu En'yō?)[9] - The user performs a singular slash utilizing a spiraling motion which extends in front of themselves to defend from imminent frontal attacks. Setting Sun Transformation (斜しゃ陽よう転てん身しん Shayō Tenshin?)[10] - The user backflips into the air before performing a singular horizontal slash which aims to decapitate the target. Solar Heat Haze (飛ひ輪りん陽かげ炎ろう Hirin Kagerō?)[11] - The user rushes forth, now attempting to deliver a strike seemingly enveloped in a heat-haze, masking the true length and location of the blade to deliver an unexpected strike. Beneficent Radiance (輝き輝き恩おん光こう Kiki Onkō?)[12] - The user spirals into the air whilst performing a swirling slash upwards to strike the target. Sunflower Thrust (陽よう華か突とつ Yōkatotsu?)[13][14] - The user performs a singular thrust utilizing the tip of their blade to strike the target. Sun Halo Dragon Head Dance (日にち暈うんの龍りゅう・頭かぶり舞まい Nichiun no Ryū Kaburimai?)[15] - The user assumes a high stance, before unleashing a number of consecutive slashes in a fluid motion in the form of a Japanese dragon made of solar flames. This technique is capable of decapitating multiple targets at once. Fire Wheel (火か車しゃ Kasha?)[16] - The user flips into the air behind the opponent before unleashing a singular vertical slash in a circular motion to swiftly cut the target in half. Fake Rainbow (幻げん日にち虹こう Gen'nichi Kō?)[17] - The user performs high-speed twists and rotations, creating afterimages that are primarily used for evading attacks. These afterimages are particularly effective against enemies with sharp vision.[18] Flame Dance (炎えん舞ぶ Enbu?)[19] - A two-strike combo which starts with a downward vertical slash leading into a horizontal slash right after. Thirteenth Form (拾じゅう参さんノ型かた Jū San no kata?)[20] - The user continuously performs all twelve forms of Sun Breathing in repetitive succession to increase the accuracy and agility of its movements, and attacks. This form was created solely for the purpose of killing Muzan Kibutsuji, since the repetition of all twelve forms aims to destroy Muzan's twelve vital organs (seven hearts and five brains) that move freely inside his body.

Game Exclusive Techniques Cross Slash (二に連れん袈け裟さ斬ぎり Nirenkesa Giri?)[21] - The user ignites their sword with solar flames and releases two arching flame slashes to their opponent, each individually making an "X" shaped slice.[22] Scorching Rush (早はや駆がけ斬ぎり Hayagake Giri?)[21] - The user rushes forward with a flaming sword and performs a 5-move combo as follows: a low-ended strike from the left, a low-ended strike from the right that lifts the user off the ground briefly, a spinning wave attack, a powerful forwards upward slash and finally an overhead downward slash. Phoenix Flash (瞬しゅん転てん斬ぎり Shunten Giri?)[21] - The user disappears in a flash of fire, before reappearing from fire in mid-air either upright, where they perform a massive overhead circular slash, or upside-down where they perform an angled 360° sword slash.]

[Pre-Requisite: Total Concentration Breathing

Total Concentration Breathing (全ぜん集しゅう中ちゅうの呼こ吸きゅう Zen Shūchū no kokyū?) is an esoteric breathing technique used by Demon Slayers.

Total Concentration Breathing is a breathing technique which involves expanding one's lungs to intake as much air as possible, accelerating one's blood flow and heartbeat while increasing their inner body temperature, resulting in their bones and muscles becoming more excited.[1]

Using Total Concentration Breathing essentially enhances the user's physical traits and capabilities while still remaining human. Such traits include superhuman strength, speed, stamina, durability, endurance, and the mental abilities needed to keep up with their superhuman bodies, such as a faster thought process and reaction time. Being more proficient in Total Concentration Breathing is key in raising one's survivability while fighting demons.

Strength: Users of Total Concentration Breathing gain superhuman physical strength, being able to perform feats such as slicing through boulders and trees,[2] generating huge gusts of wind with a single sword swing,[3] effortlessly breaking a person's arm, shattering ribs, picking up and flinging another person with a single arm,[4] launching a person tens of meters,[5] and moving massive boulders with their bare hands.[6] Kyojuro running along a train track A Demon Slayer running at inhuman speeds.

Speed: Users of Total Concentration Breathing have the ability to move and travel at superhuman speeds, being able to easily move faster than the eye can see making it seem as if one teleported, cross great distances instantaneously, and evade extremely fast attacks such as sound or lightning. Stamina & Endurance: Users of Total Concentration Breathing possess inhuman stamina and endurance. Users can remain active for prolonged periods of time without tiring out. Tanjiro Kamado has once lived through 7 days of extremely harsh training where he was constantly fighting and being physically wounded without food, sleep, and water only when it rained. During the Infinity Castle Arc, the Demon Slayers had to fend off Lower Rank-level demons and even face off Upper Ranks for around 5 hours before engaging in battle with Muzan Kibutsuji until sunrise. Total Concentration: Constant Total Concentration: Constant (全ぜん集しゅう中ちゅう・常じょう中ちゅう Zen Shūchū Jōchū?) is a Total Concentration Breathing state during the morning, noon, and night, and even while asleep that advanced Demon Slayers, such as the Hashira, can constantly maintain. There is an immense difference in strength, speed, and stamina between someone who can maintain Total Concentration Breathing at all times and someone who cannot.[7] By doing it every minute of the day, one's physical fitness drastically improves.[8]

Learning to maintain a constant state of Total Concentration Breathing requires tremendous effort, though, the skill itself is noted to be quite elementary despite the required effort.[8] When Tanjiro first heard of the constant technique, he thought it was impossible as he already found it extremely hard to just use the breathing technique for just a little and when he started practicing it for a longer period, he felt like dying. His lungs and head would hurt and his eardrums would pound, and for a second he was terrified that his heart was coming out of his ears.[9]

Tanjiro blowing up the gourd Blowing into a special gourd to rupture it.

The training process involves blowing into a special type of super durable dried gourd. The objective is to blow into the gourd with enough strength to make the gourd break apart. As training progresses, the gourd is replaced by larger and larger variations of the same type of gourd. The largest known gourd is about the size of a chair.[9]

To be able to improve Total Concentration Breathing and blow the gourd, the user should work on their lung power first. Tanjiro did this by getting up early and run around which works out his lungs with fast movements. He also practices holding his breath. Lastly, as meditation helps with concentration, he also meditates by sitting in a Siddhasana pose on the roof of the Butterfly Mansion, and breathing slowly and deeply circulating the air all the way to the fingertips. After fifteen days, he could run longer and his lungs have gotten stronger. Tanjiro also asked Naho Takada, Kiyo Terauchi and Sumi Nakahara to hit his covers with blanket beaters when he stops doing Total Concentration Breathing during his sleep. After ten more days, he managed to successfully maintain the breathing technique an entire day without stopping and was able blow the largest gourd.[9]

Enhanced Recovery At a more advanced level, Total Concentration Breathing is also capable of slowing down the circulation of poison in the bloodstream and even clotting wounds from severe injuries. By focusing on every inch of the body and raising the accuracy of one's Breathing, one can spread their sensitivity throughout one's body and detect and even heal hidden internal wounds they may have.

After Tanjiro Kamado was stabbed by the Train Engineer with an awl, Kyojuro Rengoku taught him to use the technique to detect the ruptured blood vessel in his stomach and then use hemostasis to stop the bleeding.[10] During his fight with Kokushibo, Sanemi Shinazugawa was, in addition to controlling his muscles to prevent his organs from falling out, able to stop his bleeding from multiple lethal wounds by using his breathing to near-instantly coagulate his blood, a feat Kokushibo believes should not be possible for a human.[11]

Recovery Breathing Tanjiro Kamado displayed a technique called Recovery Breathing (回かい復ふくの呼こ吸きゅう Kaifuku no kokyū?), which, by taking a brief moment to focus and steady his breath, allows him to recover from fatigue and stiff muscles that prevent his body from moving after using Hinokami Kagura twice in a row. He used this after he had collapsed on the ground from using Hinokami Kagura to allow his body to move again and prevent himself from dying from Daki's attack.[12] He later tried to perform it again to prevent himself from blacking out from exhaustion and lack of breath, but couldn't find a moment to do so due to the combined assault of Daki and Gyutaro.]
