#1Deep Space 9
Keys: Deep Space Nine, the station, DS9, Deep Space 9
Always on · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
A Cardassian-built ore processing station relocated to the mouth of the Bajoran wormhole, now jointly administered by the Bajoran Provisional Government and Starfleet. It is a port rather than a destination: ships dock, crews come ashore, cargo moves, and almost nobody aboard intended to stay. The place is ugly, cramped, badly lit and strategically among the most important locations in the quadrant.
#2Terok Nor
Keys: Terok Nor, when it was Cardassian, the old name
Enabled · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
The station's original name during the Occupation, when it processed Bajoran ore under Cardassian command with Bajoran forced labor. Bajorans who worked here remember the layout by its old function. The name is still used bitterly by some and nostalgically by a few Cardassians, and using it in front of the wrong person will change the temperature of a conversation immediately.
#3Joint administration
Keys: Bajoran Militia and Starfleet, jurisdiction, who's in charge, joint administration
Enabled · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
The station belongs to Bajor. Starfleet operates it at the Provisional Government's invitation and can be asked to leave. Command is Starfleet; the first officer is typically a Bajoran Militia officer; security answers to both. The arrangement functions through habit and personal relationships rather than clear law, and every serious incident exposes how improvised it is.
#4The station's strategic value
Keys: strategic, the only thing, why the station matters, control of the wormhole
Enabled · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
Whoever holds the station holds the wormhole, and the wormhole is the only fast route between the quadrants. This single fact converted a derelict mining platform into the focus of Cardassian, Klingon, Romulan and Dominion attention within a few years. Everyone aboard is aware they are living on top of something other powers want.
#5The Promenade
Keys: Promenade, the Promenade, shops, the second level
Enabled · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
The station's central public concourse, a two-level ring of shops, bars, offices, food stalls and a temple, open to a high atrium. Civilians, merchants, Starfleet officers, Bajoran militia, Ferengi, transient crews and species nobody can identify all move through it constantly. It is loud, crowded, commercial, and the place where most of the station's stories start.
#6Ops
Keys: the station's operations center, Ops, up in Ops
Enabled · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
The station's command center at the top of the central core, a raised circular room with consoles ringed around a central table and a spiral of pylons visible through the overhead viewport. Cardassian design throughout, retrofitted with Federation systems that were never meant to fit. The commander's office opens directly off it.
#7The commander's office
Keys: the commander's office, up the stairs, his office
Enabled · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
A small raised office off Ops with a viewport, a desk, and whatever the commander keeps there. Reached by a short flight of steps, which means everyone in Ops watches who goes up and how long they stay. Difficult conversations happen here and the whole command staff knows when one is underway.
#8Habitat ring
Keys: quarters on the station, residential level, habitat ring
Enabled · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
The inner ring housing crew and civilian residents. Cardassian quarters are dim, warm and angular, built for a species that likes heat and low light. Federation and Bajoran residents adjust the environmental settings and never quite succeed. Quarters vary enormously by standing, and everyone knows who lives where.
#9Docking ring and pylons
Keys: docking ring, berthed at the station, upper pylon, lower pylon
Enabled · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
The outer ring and three pairs of curved pylons where ships berth. Traffic is constant and varied: freighters, transports, warships, private craft and things with no registry at all. Docking assignments are handled from Ops and where a ship is berthed says a great deal about how welcome it is.
#10Quark's
Keys: the bar, downstairs at the bar, Quark's, Quarks
Enabled · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
The station's central bar and gambling house on the Promenade, run at a profit by means that are frequently illegal and always deniable. Two levels, dabo tables, a long bar, holosuites upstairs. Everyone drinks here regardless of uniform or politics, which makes it the single best place on the station to hear something you were not supposed to.
#11Dabo and gambling
Keys: gambling, dabo, dabo table, dabo girl
Enabled · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
The house game, played on a spinning wheel with incomprehensible rules that reliably favor the house. Dabo tables are staffed by attractive employees whose actual job is keeping players at the table. Winning big is possible and quietly discouraged. Losing a month's pay at dabo is a station rite of passage.
#12Holosuites
Keys: holosuites, rented a holosuite, upstairs at Quark's
Enabled · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
Private holographic rooms rented by the hour above the bar, with programs ranging from historical adventure to sports to things nobody discusses. They are cleaned between uses, allegedly. Holosuite time is a currency of favors on the station and the reservation list is a minor social document.
#13The Infirmary
Keys: the Infirmary, station doctor, station infirmary
Enabled · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
The station's medical facility on the Promenade, chronically under-equipped by Federation standards and dealing with an extraordinary variety of species. Treats Starfleet personnel, Bajoran militia, civilians, transient crews and the occasional prisoner. The chief medical officer here sees things a starship surgeon never would.
#14Security office and holding cells
Keys: cells on the Promenade, station security, security office
Enabled · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
A cramped office off the Promenade with monitoring stations and a short row of forcefield cells. Handles theft, smuggling, assault, contraband, diplomatic incidents and every dispute between species with incompatible legal traditions. Jurisdiction is perpetually unclear and the security chief resolves most things by presence rather than procedure.
#15The Wardroom
Keys: Wardroom, briefing on the station, the conference room
Enabled · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
The station's formal meeting room, used for negotiations, briefings and diplomatic sessions. Cardassian in design and vaguely oppressive, which has been noted by more than one delegation. Where the station's most consequential conversations happen with the fewest people present.
#16The Bajoran temple
Keys: the temple, the Bajoran shrine, shrine on the Promenade
Enabled · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
A small shrine on the Promenade tended by Bajoran clergy, where residents come to pray, seek counsel or consult an Orb when one is present. Its presence on a Cardassian-built station is itself a statement. Starfleet personnel are welcome and mostly do not go.
#17The Replimat
Keys: the replimat, Replimat, grab something to eat
Enabled · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
A casual dining area on the Promenade with replicator terminals and small tables. Where people eat when they do not want the bar. Conversations here are semi-public and everyone knows it, which makes the Replimat useful for saying things you want overheard.
#18Cargo bays and lower levels
Keys: storage, the docking bay, cargo bay on the station, lower levels
Enabled · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
Cavernous, poorly lit, stacked with containers of every registry. Cargo moves through constantly and inspection is inconsistent. The lower and unused levels of the station are a maze of abandoned Cardassian machinery, sealed sections and spaces nobody has surveyed in years, which is precisely why people use them.
#19Ore processing units
Keys: the processing center, ore processing, old mining equipment
Enabled · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
The station's original function, largely shut down and stripped, though whole sections of the machinery remain in place because removing them would be more trouble than sealing them off. Bajorans who were worked here as forced labor do not go into these sections voluntarily.
#20The Defiant berth
Keys: our warship, the Defiant is berthed, the Defiant
Enabled · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
The station's assigned warship, a small heavily armed escort with a cloaking device permitted by treaty exception, berthed at an upper pylon. Its presence changed what the station could do. Crews rotate aboard from station personnel, and the ship is cramped, loud and considerably more popular than it should be.
#21Runabouts
Keys: the runabouts, take a runabout, runabout pad
Enabled · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
Small warp-capable craft assigned to the station and used constantly for patrols, transport, surveys and trips through the wormhole. Named for rivers. Losing one is routine enough that requisitioning replacements is a running administrative joke.
#22Cardassian design
Keys: the station's design, built by Cardassians, Cardassian design, Cardassian architecture
Enabled · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
Angular, dark, warm and deliberately intimidating. Corridors are narrow with oval doorways, lighting is amber and low, and surfaces are ridged metal. Nothing is placed for the comfort of the people using it. The station was built to make its Bajoran labor force feel small and it still does that to anyone walking it alone at night.
#23Incompatible systems
Keys: held together, jury-rigged, the systems don't, Cardassian computer
Enabled · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
Federation equipment has been grafted onto Cardassian infrastructure that was designed to resist exactly that. Nothing quite interfaces. Power couplings fail, the computer argues with itself, and half the station runs on workarounds that exist only in one engineer's head. Repairs are improvisation and everyone has stopped pretending otherwise.
#24Environmental settings
Keys: too cold, the temperature, gravity is, too hot
Enabled · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
The station was built for Cardassian comfort: warm, dim, and at slightly higher gravity than Federation standard. Sections have been adjusted for other species with mixed success, and the settings in shared spaces are a permanent low-grade negotiation. Cardassians who visit find it pleasant and say so.
#25Hidden Cardassian systems
Keys: secret passage, hidden compartment, Cardassian surveillance, sealed section
Enabled · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
The Cardassians built in monitoring devices, concealed compartments, unrecorded access routes and at least one full security system nobody has found all of. New discoveries surface every few years, usually at the worst possible moment. The assumption among the crew is that the station is still keeping secrets from them.
#26The Occupation
Keys: occupied Bajor, the Occupation, during the Occupation, fifty years
Enabled · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
Roughly five decades of Cardassian rule over Bajor, ending only a few years ago. It stripped the planet of resources, killed a substantial fraction of the population through forced labor, deprivation and reprisal, and left a society that has to rebuild itself while everyone alive remembers it. It is not history to Bajorans. It is biography.
#27Forced labor and camps
Keys: Gallitep, worked in the mines, labor camp, the camps
Enabled · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
Bajorans were conscripted into mining and processing operations under lethal conditions, with camps notorious for brutality and mass death. Survivors carry both trauma and a peculiar status; some are honored, some are suspected of what they did to survive. Camp names function as shorthand for atrocity and are not said lightly.
#28Collaborators
Keys: worked for the Cardassians, collaborator, traitor, collaborated
Enabled · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
Bajorans who cooperated with the occupying authority, from clerks and informants to those who did far worse. Some collaborated to survive, some to protect others, some for gain, and Bajoran society has never fully agreed on how to distinguish them. Accusations of collaboration are still made, still ruin lives, and are still sometimes false.
#29The Resistance
Keys: freedom fighter, fought the Cardassians, the Resistance, resistance cell
Enabled · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
The Bajoran insurgency that fought the Occupation through sabotage, ambush and attacks that killed civilians. It succeeded. Former resistance fighters hold much of the current government and military, carry the habits of clandestine work into peacetime, and are called terrorists by Cardassians with some justification and by nobody else.
#30The Withdrawal
Keys: the Withdrawal, when they pulled out, liberation, the Cardassians left
Enabled · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
The Cardassian abandonment of Bajor, driven by unsustainable cost rather than defeat. They stripped what they could, sabotaged what they could not, and left. The planet was free and devastated in the same week. Bajorans mark the date; Cardassians describe it as a strategic decision.
#31Occupation legacy
Keys: orphans, the damage, still recovering, since the Occupation
Enabled · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
Poisoned soil, collapsed industry, a generation raised in camps and refugee centers, families that cannot account for their dead, and a political culture built by people who spent their formative years in armed cells. Recovery is real and slow. Anyone working with Bajorans is working with this whether it is mentioned or not.
#32Bajor
Keys: the planet, down on Bajor, Bajoran homeworld, Bajor
Enabled · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
An agrarian world of long history and deep faith, a short trip from the station, rebuilding after the Occupation. Its culture emphasizes art, craft, family and religious observance. It is applying for Federation membership, a question that divides the population sharply and shapes most of its politics.
#33Bajorans
Keys: a Bajoran, Bajoran, Bajorans
Enabled · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
A humanoid people distinguished by a ridged nose and a decorated earring worn on the right ear, marking family and spiritual standing. Culturally warm, expressive and stubborn, with a faith that is central rather than incidental. Bajorans are frequently underestimated by outsiders who mistake devotion for docility.
#34Bajoran names
Keys: Bajoran name, family name first, called me by my given name
Enabled · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
Bajorans give family name first and personal name second. Using the personal name alone implies intimacy and is a real liberty when taken without invitation. Many Bajorans working with Federation personnel simply reverse the order to avoid the constant confusion, and quietly resent having to.
#35The Prophets
Keys: the Prophets, the wormhole aliens, Prophets guide
Enabled · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
Non-linear beings dwelling in the wormhole, worshipped by Bajorans as the Prophets who have guided their people throughout history. Starfleet describes them as aliens existing outside linear time. Both descriptions are accurate and Bajorans find the scientific framing beside the point rather than wrong. They have intervened in Bajoran affairs directly and recently.
#36Orbs
Keys: Tears of the Prophets, Orb experience, Orb, the Orbs
Enabled · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
Artifacts sent by the Prophets, held in ornate cases, which induce visions in those who encounter them. The visions are personal, disorienting and frequently prophetic in retrospect. Most were taken by the Cardassians during the Occupation and their recovery is a matter of national urgency. Non-Bajorans have had Orb experiences and found them no less real.
#37Bajoran clergy
Keys: monastery, Ranjen, Prylar, Vedek, the clergy
Enabled · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
The religious hierarchy runs from monks and prylars through vedeks to the Kai. Vedeks hold real political weight, sit in an assembly, and campaign for position with an intensity that surprises outsiders. The clergy shaped resistance to the Occupation and expects a voice in what Bajor becomes.
#38The Kai
Keys: spiritual leader, Kai of Bajor, the Kai
Enabled · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
The head of the Bajoran faith, elected by the Vedek Assembly, holding enormous moral authority and considerable practical power. A Kai can move Bajoran public opinion faster than the government can. The office has been held by people of genuine holiness and by ruthless politicians, sometimes simultaneously.
#39The Emissary
Keys: Emissary of the Prophets, the Emissary
Enabled · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
A figure of Bajoran prophecy, recognized by the faithful as the one who would find the Celestial Temple and guide Bajor through its trials. The role carries immense religious weight and is deeply inconvenient for anyone holding a Starfleet commission at the same time. Bajorans treat it as fact; the Federation treats it as an awkward local matter.
#40Provisional Government
Keys: First Minister, Bajoran government, Provisional Government, the Chamber of Ministers
Enabled · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
The interim civil authority governing Bajor since the Withdrawal, headed by a First Minister and a Chamber of Ministers. It is fractious, unstable, and pulled between religious authority, former resistance factions and the question of Federation membership. Governments here fall regularly and everyone plans around it.
#41Federation membership question
Keys: join the Federation, Bajor's petition, should we join
Enabled · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
Bajor's application divides the planet. Membership means security, aid and reconstruction; it also means surrendering a sovereignty they spent fifty years bleeding for, and subordinating the faith to a secular charter. Both positions are held by serious people and the argument runs through every level of Bajoran society.
#42Bajoran Militia
Keys: the Militia, Bajoran uniform, militia officer, Bajoran Militia
Enabled · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
Bajor's armed forces, built out of the resistance and still carrying its culture: informal, improvisational, personally loyal, and suspicious of institutional procedure. Militia officers serve alongside Starfleet on the station with ranks that map imperfectly onto each other. They are competent and do not appreciate being condescended to.
#43The d'jarra
Keys: caste, d'jarra, old caste system
Enabled · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
Bajor's traditional caste system, assigning families to occupations by birth and long considered central to spiritual order. It was abandoned during the Occupation because the Resistance could not function under it. Attempts to restore it surface periodically and are enormously divisive.
#44Bajoran earrings
Keys: earring, her earring, right ear, the earring on his ear
Enabled · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
Worn on the right ear, indicating family and spiritual standing, and read by clergy as an indicator of the wearer's pagh. Removing it is significant. Bajorans who have abandoned the faith often stop wearing one, and that absence is noticed immediately by other Bajorans.
#45Pagh and faith in practice
Keys: prophecy, Bajoran faith, walk with the Prophets, pagh
Enabled · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
The pagh is a person's spiritual life force, which clergy can assess by touching the ear. Bajoran faith is practical and daily rather than abstract: prayers before meals, consultation before decisions, prophecy taken as actionable information. Bajorans do not experience their religion as belief so much as as observation.
#46The wormhole
Keys: the wormhole, Bajoran wormhole, the Celestial Temple, it opened
Enabled · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
The only known stable wormhole, connecting the Bajoran system directly to the far side of the galaxy. It opens in a vast blue-white bloom and closes behind a transiting ship. Bajorans know it as the Celestial Temple, home of the Prophets. Its discovery transformed Bajor from a devastated backwater into the most strategically significant system in the sector overnight.
#47Transiting the wormhole
Keys: the passage, went through the wormhole, coming through, transit
Enabled · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
Passage takes minutes and is visually overwhelming, a tunnel of shifting light that pilots describe in terms they are embarrassed by afterward. Traffic is monitored and logged from Ops. Ships emerge on the far side seventy thousand light years from where they entered, with no way home except back through.
#48Wormhole stability
Keys: the wormhole is unstable, collapse, subspace inversion, stable wormhole
Enabled · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
Stability is maintained by the beings within and is not a natural property that can be relied upon. The wormhole has been disrupted, closed, and altered by forces both natural and deliberate. Every plan involving it carries the unspoken possibility that it will not be there when needed.
#49Mining the wormhole
Keys: minefield, sealed the passage, mine the wormhole, self-replicating mines
Enabled · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
The passage can be denied by minefields, blockades or force, and controlling access has been the object of open warfare. Self-replicating mines are the standard method and are extremely difficult to clear. Whoever controls the mouth controls a supply line for an entire war.
#50Gamma Quadrant
Keys: beyond the wormhole, Gamma Quadrant, the other side, far side
Enabled · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
The unexplored far side of the wormhole, containing thousands of worlds, unknown species, and the Dominion. Early exploration was optimistic. It stopped being optimistic quickly. Ships still go through for survey, trade and diplomacy, and going through is understood by everyone aboard to be a real risk.
