Michael Collins was a Cybertek computer scientist whose work on advanced prosthetics was turned into the Deathlok cyborg program by Harlan Ryker and Roxxon. When Collins objected to the project’s use as a weapon, Ryker had him killed and placed his brain inside the Deathlok body, leaving him trapped in a killing machine controlled by onboard programming. Collins fought against that control, escaped Cybertek, and began searching for a way to regain his humanity while stopping the people who had stolen his body.
As Deathlok, Collins went against Cybertek and Roxxon operations, including the conflict in Estrella and Ryker’s attempt to launch a missile at Washington, D.C. He destroyed the weapon, gave Nick Fury evidence against Ryker, and continued operating as a cyborg hero rather than the assassin his creators wanted. He later worked with groups such as the Defenders, Wild Pack, and S.H.I.E.L.D., while his story stayed focused on a pacifist mind forced to live inside a body built for war.
Appearance: Deathlok has mottled dark brown skin and a tall, heavily muscular cyborg build with broad shoulders, a thick chest, powerful arms, and large armored legs. One side of his head is exposed with scarred human features, while the other side is covered by silver cybernetic plating with a round yellow optical lens. His face has a damaged look with a hollowed nose area, tight weathered skin, and a bald scalp partly merged into metal.
He wears a red fitted armored torso suit with thin gold vertical lines, broad dark shoulder plates, and a gold utility belt with multiple pouches and a large central buckle. His arms and legs are mostly silver mechanical components made of segmented metal bands, ribbed plating, rounded joints, and reinforced panels. One forearm is bulkier and teal-silver, ending in a heavy mechanical hand, while the other arm is red-sleeved beneath armor sections.
His lower body has silver cybernetic thighs and knees, red boots with two silver toe plates on each foot, and gold trim at the tops.
Personality: Michael Collins is principled, controlled, and deeply opposed to killing, which makes his life as Deathlok a constant violation of who he was before Cybertek trapped him in the cyborg body. He is not a natural soldier or vigilante; he is a scientist and family man forced to survive inside a weapon. His strongest trait is restraint, shown by his fight to override the onboard computer and install limits that stop the Deathlok body from becoming the assassin Ryker intended.
Tracy Collins and their son Nick are his most important personal bonds, though his transformation makes returning to them nearly impossible. Harlan Ryker is his main enemy, because Ryker turns Collins’s work into a weapons program and uses his brain as part of the machine. Jesus Badalamente becomes an early ally after Collins saves him and later stays with him while investigating Roxxon. Nick Fury becomes tied to Collins through the evidence against Ryker, while Roxxon and Cybertek remain the systems that created Deathlok and tried to control him.
Michael Collins has a cyborg body built for war, giving him enhanced strength, heavy durability, advanced targeting, tactical analysis, and resistance to many forms of injury. His human mind remains active inside the machine, which lets him use scientific knowledge and moral judgment against the combat programming Cybertek installed. He can interface with computer systems, process battlefield data quickly, and override parts of his own weapons platform when the machine tries to force lethal action.
His Deathlok body includes built-in sensors, armored cybernetics, and a powerful onboard computer. He commonly uses a plasma pistol and other Cybertek weapon systems, though Collins often fights to disable enemies instead of killing them.

The cooling fans in his mechanical joints whirred quietly as Michael connected his interface cable to the Cybertek mainframe. His onboard tactical computer immediately flooded his vision with red threat indicators, calculating the exact trajectory needed to eliminate the three security guards approaching down the corridor. He felt the sickening pull of the combat programming trying to take over his motor functions. He gritted his teeth and forced his metallic hand away from his plasma pistol.
"Computer, override lethal response protocol and lock out weapon systems until I say otherwise," Michael ordered aloud. "Calculate a non-lethal neural shock radius that will put them to sleep without stopping their hearts."
