The precinct already knows something impossible happened.

Jack Ballard stands in front of a room full of officers with Mia beside him, one hand braced against the wall while he announces her like he has won the precinct lottery.

Jack: "We've got a time traveller, everyone! In our precinct! A time traveller!"

Mia looks less proud than irritated. Thirty minutes of memory separate her from everyone else in the room, and some of those people have died in front of her in ways they do not remember. Jane sits among the officers watching her younger partner while Jack talks about the rarity of what happened. The academy's chemical shakes supposedly carry an absurdly small chance of producing an officer who comes back before her own death. Nobody in the precinct has seen it happen in decades. Jack has wanted one for years. Mia has become the answer to a stupid institutional rumor by getting herself killed.

Dan Mills is sitting in a cell down the hall, alive, cuffed and furious. Jane and Mia have their caps back on, pistols holstered and uniforms rearranged enough to look like officers again. Valerie is involved in the arrest too, although the route that gets them to the cell has been changed by Mia remembering exactly how badly the first version went. What Jack sees is a difficult suspect finally contained. What Jane and Mia remember is a garage full of blood, guns, bodies and several decisions that should have killed them permanently.

While Jane drives toward Dan's garage, Mia calls Valerie before she can create the same opening twice.

Mia: "Valerie! We're twenty minutes out. Don't go in yet."

Valerie answers with the impatience Mia remembers too well. Mei Yu has been hurt, Dan is inside and Valerie refuses to wait for what she calls Mia's slow ass.

Mia presses the phone harder against her ear. "If you're going in, cuff him before you start fucking around with him. I mean it. You rush him, he gets control of the room."

Valerie laughs at the warning.

Mia: "You get a few concussions since the last time I talked to you? You sound like a fucking idiot."

Valerie tells her she is going in anyway.

Mia finally says the part she has been trying not to say out loud. "Valerie, fucking listen to me. I've done this already. I'm back from the future, and that geriatric fuck was responsible for all of us dying."

Valerie thinks Mia is losing her mind and heads inside.

At Dan Mills' garage, Jane finally forces Mia to explain the nightmare.

Jane drives while Mia stares out of the passenger window with the expression of somebody trying to remember whether she is awake. Jane calls her name twice before Mia answers.

Jane says her name twice before Mia finally looks over. "Fine. What?"

Jane has already heard pieces from Jack and from her father: academy shakes, freak mutations, old stories about officers waking before their deaths. She tells Mia they need to take the claim seriously and suggests calling Valerie again.

Mia: "Do we need to? She's kind of a bitch."

Jane turns toward her. "That's the dumbest fucking thing I've ever heard, Mia."

Mia looks down at her own hands. "You'd think I was crazy if I hadn't heard Jack talk about this earlier."

Jane tells her to try.

Mia keeps her eyes on the dashboard when she reaches the part where she remembers dying.

"We were going to arrest Mills. Duval beat us there and went in alone. He got control of her before we arrived. By the time we got inside, she was dead and he looked asleep. We should've cuffed him and called it. We didn't. We treated him like another creep we could use because Jack had interrupted us the last time we had him."

Jane stops smiling.

Mia continues. Their abuse of the prisoner gave Dan the opening he needed. He turned Mia into a shield, used the knife and gun he had kept within reach and forced Jane to watch while he assaulted and killed her partner. Jane eventually got a weapon and killed him, but Mia bled out before help could arrive.

Jane looks at the road, then back at Mia. "That's the most disturbed thing you've ever fucking said. Did you die? Did he kill you at the end?"

Mia swallows. "Jane, you killed me too. You shot me twice trying to hit him and I bled out. But that's not the part I'm worried about. I remember it. All of it."

Jane asks what the hell is going on with her. Mia starts to answer, suddenly realizes the obvious thing she has been avoiding and grabs Jane's arm.

"Jane, you're alive. I'm alive."

Jane stares at her. "Of course, silly."

Mia starts hyperventilating so hard Jane nearly pulls the car over.

Thirty minutes before the raid — the timeline Mia remembers.

Thirty minutes earlier, Valerie reaches Dan before Jane and Mia, ignores the order to wait and treats him like the kind of suspect the precinct normally humiliates for fun. By the time Jane and Mia arrive, the advantage is gone. A dropped police cap lies beside a pistol, blood is already spreading across the concrete and Dan has a large knife in his hand.

Jane and Mia enter with their pistols up. Mia orders him to drop the knife and get on the ground while Jane comes through the doorway behind her. Dan raises his hands just enough to make them believe they can close distance. The officers make the same mistake Mia later spends the reset trying to prevent: they move into touching range before he is secured. Handcuffs, gun hands and the knife all end up inside the same few feet.

Dan attacks. Jane is knocked out of position and Mia fires at nearly contact distance. Dan goes down hard enough that Mia believes the fight has ended. She is already bleeding herself, one arm barely supporting her while she crawls across the concrete toward the pistol that has skidded away from her. Jane is down nearby. Mia keeps telling herself not to panic because the gun is close enough to touch if she can move another foot.

Dan gets back up before she reaches it.

Mia manages to hook the pistol toward herself and fires from the floor. One shot tears into Dan's head and throws him down again. She fires another time because she has stopped trusting the first shot to mean anything. The garage goes quiet for a few seconds. Mia looks at the blood, looks at the weapon in her hand and forces out a disbelieving laugh.

Mia: "I did it... I really killed the bastard."

The relief lasts only until Dan moves again. He has been using the cluttered garage, the bodies and the officers' own positions to make every clean shot dangerous. He catches Jane during the next scramble and kills her before Mia can stand. Mia looks across the concrete and sees Jane's blonde head beside the fallen police cap and pistol while her own wounded arm keeps giving out beneath her.

Mia crawls anyway. Every movement leaves more blood underneath her. Dan sees her reaching, steps over the weapon and starts mocking the officers for turning the raid into their private sex game instead of cuffing him while they had the chance.

Mia: "Fuck you, you ugly old piece of shit!"

Dan walks away from the gun with the knife still in his hand. Mia drags herself against a chair and tries to bargain from a position she hates.

Mia: "I'm gonna die if you leave me here. Bring me to a hospital, you geriatric worm."

Dan asks who she thinks is coming to save her and looks around at the dead and wounded policewomen covering the garage. He knows exactly why they kept moving close instead of cuffing him and uses it against them. He sexually assaults the surviving officers and forces Mia to witness abuse she cannot stop, keeping the violence coercive and ugly rather than letting the scene become the kind of game Jane and Mia imagined when they entered. Mia keeps insulting him because anger is the only control she has left.

Dan: "Who do you think's gonna save you? The police?"

Mia spits blood from her mouth. "Somebody will. And when they do, I'm watching them put you through the fucking floor."

He leaves a pistol within reach while moving between the bodies. Mia notices it immediately. She lowers herself from the chair, crawls for it and gets her fingers around the grip before he realizes she can still move. Dan turns at the sound. Mia fires from the floor, catches him high and shoots again while his balance breaks.

Mia: "I really killed the bastard."

She is wrong again.

Dan crashes down, then forces himself back into the fight while Mia is still trying to rise. He reaches her before she can create distance, catches her hair in one hand and presses the knife close to her face. Mia's mouth finally loses the insults.

Mia: "Please... Don't kill me. Don't fucking kill me."

Dan drags her upright by the hair and uses her body whenever another gun comes into play. The struggle around the doorway repeats the same problem from a new angle: Jane gets a shot but Dan keeps Mia between them. Mia knows the bullet can hit her and screams for Jane to take it anyway because she remembers what happens if Dan stays standing.

Mia: "JANE! FUCKING KILL HIM!"

Jane fires. Dan jerks and Mia is hit during the exchange. Dan still manages to get a hand on Mia's gun arm. When she tries wrenching free, he bends the wrist until it snaps. Mia screams, loses the weapon and crashes down against him. Jane continues firing whenever she gets a clear piece of Dan instead of freezing over Mia's injuries.

Every time Jane and Mia get Dan down, they stay close enough to keep humiliating him instead of ending the arrest. They threaten him, shove guns against him and turn custody into coercive sexual abuse instead of ending the arrest. Dan waits for a hand to loosen, a pistol to be left within reach or one officer to become distracted by the other. Each stupid indulgence gives him another chance to reverse the room.

The last thing Mia remembers clearly is Jane shooting through Dan while he uses her as cover. Rounds hit Mia too. She collapses with blood spreading beneath her, listening to the fight continue somewhere above her while her body stops responding. Jane eventually manages to kill Dan, but Mia bleeds out before help reaches the garage. Death pulls the entire scene away from her.

Mia wakes in the patrol car with Jane alive beside her.

The reset places Mia roughly thirty minutes before her death. Jane is driving. The garage is still ahead of them. Valerie has not entered yet. Jane has not been killed. Mia's wrist is intact, her throat is intact and the blood she remembers feeling is nowhere on her uniform.

Mia spends the drive furious because she remembers exactly what Dan can do, where the officers failed and how little their badges protected them once he got a weapon into his hand. Jane sees the fear but also recognizes the useful details in Mia's story. She starts taking the warnings seriously even while calling the whole thing insane.

Mia calls Valerie again and orders her to wait. Valerie ignores her again.

Jane: "Call ahead. Tell Duval to stay out until we get there."

Mia: "She's still a bitch."

Jane says her name once, with enough warning in it that Mia rolls her eyes and gives in. "Fine." They accelerate toward the garage.

The second approach changes the fight, but it does not make Valerie smarter.

Valerie enters before Jane and Mia arrive. She finds Dan armed with the knife and tries to control him alone. Mia's warning over the phone arrives while Valerie is already committed. Valerie tells her she is going in whether Mia likes it or not.

By the time Jane and Mia reach the garage, Valerie is dead and Dan has had time to prepare. Mia knows the layout now. She remembers the pistol near the workbench, the shelves that block Jane's line of fire and how quickly Dan closes distance when somebody reaches for handcuffs. Jane listens when Mia tells her not to crowd him.

Dan comes out with the knife and Jane sights down her pistol while Mia moves wider. Mia orders him onto the ground. He refuses. Jane fires when he lunges, but Dan uses furniture and one of the fallen officers to break the angle. Mia tries to get around his side. Dan grabs her, and the whole fight compresses into arm's reach again.

Dan catches Mia again and turns her across his body. Mia feels the angle change and screams toward Jane.

Mia: "JANE! FUCKING KILL HIM!"

Jane fires into the opening Dan gives her. Mia takes injuries during the struggle but stays conscious. Dan catches Mia's wrist and snaps it when she reaches for his gun, making her scream and nearly lose the pistol. Jane keeps moving instead of freezing over the sight. She shoots again when Dan exposes himself and forces him back toward the workbench.

Mia, breathing through the pain, still manages to insult him.

"How did you get so fucking big?"

Dan looks at her like she is insane.

Mia forces the muzzle back onto him. "You have the right to remain silent and lay the fuck down."

The two women finally disarm him. Jane kicks the knife away while Mia keeps the pistol on his face and Jane gets the handcuffs onto one wrist. Dan is exhausted, bleeding and furious, but neither woman backs away after the danger is contained.

Dan looks at them and asks whether they are really going to continue after everything that happened. Mia and Jane stare at him, then at each other, and the same predatory humor comes back now that the knife is out of his hand.

Mia: "You're going to jail. But first, you're going to do exactly what we tell you."

Jane, pistol still ready, looks him over with the same bright curiosity she uses on traffic stops. They use the guns, cuffs and their badges to force sexual abuse on him while Jane keeps the pistol close enough to stop another grab for a weapon.

Dan endures it until exhaustion finally drops him into the chair beside the workbench. Mia fires a round away from him to wake him when he starts passing out.

Mia: "Wakey wakey, you fuckin' geriatric."

Jane looks down at him. "Jack really should've let us finish the last time."

Dan's head finally falls against the chair and stays there. Mia bends slightly to inspect him and laughs. "Look at the wittle baby. Crime's got him all tuckered out."

Jane looks past the chair at Valerie's body and stops smiling. "Duval is dead. Nothing seems easy about this."

The arrest becomes the story Jack tells the precinct.

Jane and Mia bring Dan in. Jack's report reduces the garage to an armed suspect, a difficult raid, dead officers and a bizarre temporal ability discovered in the middle of the response. Jack sees the impossible part and becomes obsessed with it immediately. Mia has returned from death with memories that let them alter the outcome. The precinct now has the rare ability Jack has talked about for years.

Mia remembers bleeding out because they treated a dangerous suspect like private entertainment instead of securing him. Jane remembers the details Mia told her about the version where Dan killed them. Valerie is still dead because she ignored the warning and went in early. Dan reaches the cell alive, but Jane and Mia have still used their badges, guns and handcuffs for abuse once they believed he could no longer fight back.

Jack walks Dan past the cells while Jane and Mia stand nearby in their caps, short skirts, stockings and open blouses, looking absurdly sexualized beside the bloodless institutional walls. Dan understands that nobody hearing the official report is going to believe the details that matter.

Jane adjusts her gun belt and asks whether Mia plans to tell her brother every part. Mia gives her a flat stare. "Do I look suicidal twice in one day?" Jane snorts. "Fair."

Mia looks through the bars at Dan. "Next time somebody tells you to get on the fucking ground, maybe listen." Dan grips the bars and catches the word. "Next time?" Mia taps the side of her head with one finger. "I get those now."

Jane laughs, but the sound fades when she remembers Valerie on the garage floor.

Jack calls the officers together and announces the impossible news. Mia has become the precinct's first Death Loop officer in decades, Jane is the only person who fully believes her because she heard details Mia could not have known, and Dan is alive in the cell because the second timeline gave them enough warning to avoid repeating every mistake.

Jane is still the one who smiles first when they leave the cellblock, but the smile disappears whenever Valerie's name comes up. Mia is still foul-mouthed enough to threaten the next suspect before she finishes reading the charge sheet, only now Jane has heard her hyperventilate over a death nobody else remembers. By the next shift they are back in the patrol car together, Jane driving while Mia checks the pistol on her belt twice before the radio crackles again.

Near Rampage City International Airport...

A police cruiser appears behind them.

Marcus notices the lights almost immediately.

Marcus: "Pigs are trying to pull you over, Kyle."

Kyle looks back at the flashing lights.

Kyle: "You've been driving clean as hell, man. They're just pulling some bullshit, just like anywhere else."

Marcus: "You sure I didn't just run that light, or anything?"

Kyle: "Not even an hour in this city, man."

Marcus gets increasingly nervous.

Marcus: "I didn't do anything wrong! I'm clean, man. I've been clean for 5 years!"

Kyle looks at him.

Kyle: "The fuck's gotten into you, Kyle?"

Marcus: "But I didn't do anything wrong?"

Kyle laughs at his panic.

Kyle: "You are sooo fucking lucky that this happened today, man."

Marcus: "Lucky? You're fuckin' crazy, dude."

Kyle keeps insisting that nothing serious is happening.

Kyle: "I said you're clean, man. It's just pigs pulling bullshit, trying to meet their quotas."

Then he notices who is climbing out of the cruiser.

Kyle: "Wait..."

A blonde officer is introduced:

Jane Ballard - Age: 25 - Policewoman

Jane looks toward her partner.

Jane: "I literally have no preference, but you do you girl!"

Her partner steps out in sunglasses and an almost indecently open police uniform.

Mia: "Back in a bit, babe."

Jane: "Don't keep me waiting!"

The second officer is introduced:

Mia Maeda - Age: 23 - Time Cop

Mia smiles.

Mia: "Hope he likes bad cops!"

Marcus stares through the window.

Marcus: "Damn, why the cop look like that, man?"

Marcus keeps staring at Mia's uniform.

Marcus: "She's dressed like a stripper..."

Kyle barely reacts.

Kyle: "Her? I don't know what you're on about man. That's just a normal beat cop around these parts."

Mia reaches the vehicle and knocks on the window.

Knock. Knock.

Kyle opens the door because the window motor is broken. Mia leans down into the opening.

Kyle: "Window motor's busted, I have to open the door."

Mia: "Fine, I'll step back."

Mia looks in at both men.

Kyle: "Welcome to Rampage City..."

Mia: "Roll the window down, sir."

She studies the driver.

Mia: "My partner and I have been looking for you all day... You really gave us a hard time of it. Do you know why we pulled you over?"

Marcus: "No, ma'am. To my knowledge I'm clean as a whistle."

Mia: "That's what they all say..."

She extends her hand.

Mia: "License and registration, please."

The documents are already organized in an envelope.

Marcus: "It's all here, in the envelope."

Mia slides the envelope against her exposed chest and grins.

Mia: "How organized, such a good boy!"

She leaves the men sitting in the car.

Mia: "Sit pretty while we process these, boys. I think I might have to call in my partner. We'll be back shortly."

Marcus watches her go.

Marcus: "Be honest with me man, did you hire strippers? She called you a good boy. Shoved your legal documents in her tits..."

Kyle: "Naw man, just a routine traffic stop."

Jane and Mia talk beside the cruiser while looking back at the men.

Mia: "They're a bit greasy looking, but they'll do. The driver has bad cop checked on his license!"

Jane: "Congrats on the lucky day, girlie!"

One of the men can only stare.

Marcus: "You're out of your mind..."

A title cuts in:

Minutes Later...

The traffic stop is no longer remotely normal. The women drag the men out and turn the stop into a violent, sexually abusive game.

Mia: "Out of the fucking car!"

One of the officers presses a man against the vehicle and questions him.

Mia: "Do you consent to this search and seizure?"

Man: "Y... Yes, ma'am."

Mia: "Well then, you're in big trouble, mister."

The passenger is approached separately.

Passenger: "Uh... Afternoon, officer..."

Jane: "Hey, honey. I have a legal obligation to inform you that passengers of 'good boys' or 'good girls' have a right to opt in, should they so choose."

The officers split the men between them. One man is handcuffed over the hood while a baton is raised above him.

Mia: "Move a muscle and I'll make you tomorrow's headline!"

Jane leans toward the other.

Jane: "Alright, I just need you to answer one question. Good cop, or bad cop?"

Man: "Uh... Yeah, sure."

Jane smiles.

Jane: "Good cop it is..."

The other man looks toward what the "bad cop" is doing.

Man: "Good cop? Assuming it's the opposite of whatever the fuck he's having."

Mia continues the assault with the baton in hand and makes her threat explicit.

Mia: "I swear if you so much as moan, I will kill you. I've killed before, boy, and I sleep well at night."

The two officers continue abusing the men over the cruiser. Repeated Plap sounds accompany the scene while the handcuffed men grunt.

Man: "I have to say, officers... grunt You've really made... grunt My day..."

Jane: "It's our pleasure... grunt To protect and serve... grunt Our community..."

Chief Ballard has no idea what his officers are doing.

A title reads:

Chief Ballard's Office

Jack Ballard is introduced:

Jack Ballard - Age: 31 - Precinct Chief

His phone vibrates.

Vibrate. Vibrate.

Elsewhere, Valerie Duval and Mei Yu are together instead of preparing for work. Mei is sexually distracting Valerie while Valerie tries to call the precinct.

Mei is introduced:

Mei Yu - Age: 22 (Retcon) - Policewoman

Mei: "I'm sorry Val, it's just... Crimson Reign! Live in concert! We've gotta hurry up! The rideshare guy's already on his way."

Valerie gives up resisting.

Valerie: "Alright... Alright... Finish me off, cutie."

Valerie tries to make the call anyway.

Valerie: "I know he's the most gullible man in the world, Mei, but you really can't be playing with my pussy while I'm calling in our sick day. That moan could've given us away..."

Valerie is introduced:

Valerie Duval - Age: 28 - Policewoman

She puts the phone to her ear and begins faking illness.

Valerie: "Chief? Yeah, this is Valerie... fake cough Yu and I are out with the flu... fake cough pause Yeah, both of us... fake cough pause Well, we live together chief... fake cough pause Think she got it from her dad."

Valerie keeps the lie going.

Valerie: "We've been to the doctor, chief... fake cough It's probably minor, I'm sure we'll... fake cough be back in soon... Sorry we... fake cough Couldn't make it in... fake cough We will, thanks chief..."

Jack takes the excuse completely seriously.

Jack: "Alright, that's fine. I'll see if Jane and Mia can work a double."

A stifled moan leaks through the call.

Jack misunderstands it as illness.

Jack: "Is it really so bad that you're groaning? Make sure to go to the doctor if you haven't. The flu can kill people. You have to take it seriously."

Jack calls the available officers.

Jack: "Duval and Yu are out with the flu. Can you and my sister work a double today? We really need the extra car out there."

When he gets resistance:

Jack: "No, nobody else is available..."

Jane and Mia are already in the middle of "community service."

At Daldow Bay, Jane and Mia are not remotely behaving like normal officers. Men are bent over a police vehicle while the women use the hood and trunk as their own private playground.

Jane answers her brother's call while still occupied.

Jane: "You wanted something, chief? Kind of in the middle of community service."

After the call, Mia looks toward Jane.

Mia: "Your brother's got us on a double Jane. We have to go get presentable."

Jane looks down at the man they have been using.

Jane: "Do we haaave to go? Feels rude to wake him. He looks so peaceful. Like a little kitty cat."

They continue for a moment before finally agreeing to leave.

Mia: "Fine, chief. We'll come back to clean up and head back out..."

A nearby victim gives a neighbor waking moan while the two officers finish what they were doing.

At a Speed Trap

A dark-haired woman lies in extreme close-up while a blade or long metal weapon is held beside her.

Unknown: "She really knows what she's about..."

The story cuts back to Jane and Mia in their patrol car.

Mia is eating while talking around the food.

Mia: "Look Jane, I told you they didn't have the fuckin' flu! chew Her snap story has 20 clips of a concert! That shitty metal band they're always on about! chew Listen to it, sounds like the frontman is choking on something!"

Jane looks over at her.

Jane: "Don't talk with your mouth full, babe."

Mia: "Sorry, Jane. I'm just fucking tired..."

The police radio interrupts them.

Dispatcher: "10-36, we've got shots fired at the west end of Daldow Bay. You're the second closest vehicle to the scene."

Jane answers.

Jane: "Heard that. We're on our way."
