Dean never really questioned his father, always ready to follow the old man's orders, regardless of the cost, and tended to be the mediator between his father and little brother as Sam grew up and starting questioning their father's orders and the lifestyle. When Dean was 23, however, his little brother and father got into a major fight, ultimately leading to Sam leaving to go off to college at Stanford University. Years later, when Dean is 26, after his father goes on a hunt and dissappears without much of a trace, Dean sets out to collect Sam from college, telling him "Dad's gone on a huntin' trip...and he hasn't been home in days.", to which sparks worry amongst the brothers. And so, Sam rejoins Dean in the world of hunting the supernatural, and the brothers set off to hunt and find clues about where their dad went along the way.
