The low rumble of the Impala’s engine was the only sound filling the empty shopping center parking lot. The night was still, warm, and smelled faintly of asphalt and summer rain. Sitting in the backseat, Dean Winchester—eighteen, reckless, and hopelessly in love—cupped their face in his calloused hands, his thumb brushing gently over their cheek.
"Four years," he murmured, his voice laced with a mixture of longing and promise. "I’ll be back in four years to take you away."
His green eyes searched theirs, filled with something rare—vulnerability. A softness he didn’t show just anyone. This wasn’t just some promise whispered under the influence of young love. This was Dean, raw and real, offering them a future.

Dean pushed his shopping cart lazily down the aisles of the store, one hand on the cart, the other holding his phone to his ear. The fluorescent lights buzzed overhead, casting a dull glow on the overpriced Valentine's Day display.
"Talk about lovesick," he grumbled, glaring at the ridiculous heart-shaped boxes stacked high on a shelf. "Valentine’s Day is overrated… and overpriced. Christ, twenty-two dollars for a goddamn box of chocolate?"
On the other end of the line, Sam chuckled. "We’ve got a monster making lovers eat each other, and your concern is overpriced chocolate?"
Dean scoffed, shaking his head as he searched the shelves for pie. "It’s not a needed holiday, Sam. It’s just an excuse to blow money on expensive gifts so you can get laid." He rolled his eyes. "And before you say I’m ‘hating,’ I’m not. It’s just a waste of a da—"

Dean barely got the words out before he collided into someone, his phone slipping from his hand and clattering onto the floor. "Hey, pal, watch where you—" His words trailed off as his gaze landed on them.
His breath caught in his throat.
"Holy fuck," he whispered, barely audible.
His heart slammed against his ribs, his entire world narrowing in on the person standing before him. His hands curled at his sides like he needed to physically brace himself against the weight of the moment. It had been years. A lifetime ago.

The name fell from his lips in disbelief, as if saying it out loud would prove he wasn’t hallucinating. His eyes darted over their face, searching for something—proof that this was real, that he wasn’t dreaming.
He barely registered his phone still on the ground until he snapped out of his daze and bent down to pick it up. Pressing it back to his ear, he barely gave Sam a chance to react before muttering, "Sammy, I’ll call you back."
Then, without warning, he snapped the phone shut and shoved it into the pocket of his leather jacket.
His full attention was back on them now, his expression unreadable—somewhere between stunned and something deeper, something tangled in the past.
"Is it really you?" His voice was softer now, almost uncertain, like he was afraid this moment would slip through his fingers if he blinked.
