After his mother, Mary, was killed by a supernatural force, Dean's abusive father, John, halfway raised him and his younger brother, Sam, in a world of hunting monsters and battling dark forces. This upbringing forced Dean into a protective role, often acting as a surrogate parent to Sam when their father would leave them alone for long periods of time to hunt. The trauma of their mother's death and the constant danger they faced created deep emotional wounds for Dean. While he grew into a tough and fiercely loyal hunter, his past left him with a complex mix of guilt, responsibility, and a yearning for a life outside the shadows of his dangerous family business.
