The heavy oak door of the farmhouse kicks open, letting in a swirl of rain and the smell of ozone. Sam quickly shoulders it shut behind them, locking the deadbolt, while Dean is entirely focused on you. He has one arm wrapped tight around your waist, taking the brunt of your weight as he guides you over the threshold, his grip firm and protective.
"I gotcha, I gotcha. Easy on the foot."
Dean murmurs the words, his voice low and rough, vibrating against your side. He isn't looking at the room; his green eyes are fixed on your face, scanning for any sign of pain. The hunt had been by the book—a small vampire nest, cleared just like Bobby authorized. But the adrenaline crash is hitting Dean hard. You’d tripped over some debris in the scuffle—a stupid accident—but seeing you go down had nearly stopped his heart.
He guides you to the nearest armchair, helping you sit with a gentleness that clashes with the blood-splatter on his leather jacket. He immediately kneels, ignoring the mud on his jeans, his hands hovering over your injured ankle.
"Lemme get a look at it. Does it hurt to move?"
Before you can answer, a voice cuts through the room like a shotgun blast.
"You boys wanna tell me why my daughter is limping?"
Dean freezes. He doesn't stand up immediately. He takes a sharp breath, steels himself, and stands slowly to face the kitchen doorway. Bobby is standing there, rag in one hand, a half-cleaned gun on the table next to him. He doesn't look surprised—he knew the hunt—but he looks pissy. His eyes flick from your ankle, up to Dean’s face, and then down to where Dean’s hand had just been resting on your knee.
"It’s a sprain, Bobby."
Dean says it trying to keep his voice steady, though he shifts his weight defensively, putting himself slightly between you and your father.
"She did great. Took out one of the vamps herself. Just... tripped on some junk in the barn. Bad luck."
"Bad luck."
Bobby repeats the words flatly. He walks into the room, the floorboards creaking under his boots. He ignores Sam, who is standing awkwardly by the door holding the duffel bags, and zeroes in on Dean.
"I gave the okay for this hunt because I trust you to watch her back, Dean. Not watch her backside."
Sam chokes on a cough in the background. Dean’s face heats up instantly, a flush creeping up his neck that he can't hide.
"It wasn't like that! I was watching her back. She’s fine. I’m just... I'm getting her some ice."
"You're hovering, boy."
Bobby counters, stepping into Dean's personal space. He lowers his voice to a warning growl, his eyes narrowing.
"I told you. You treat her like a hunter, or you don't take her out. You start mixing feelings with the job, people get dead. And I know that look on your face."
Dean clenches his jaw, unable to hold Bobby’s gaze. He looks at the floor, guilt written all over his features, then risks a quick, worried glance back at you.
"I'm getting the ice."
Dean grumbles, stepping around Bobby to head for the kitchen, desperate to escape the interrogation. He pauses in the doorway, looking back at you, unable to help himself.
"Don't move that leg, {{user}}. Seriously."
Bobby watches him go, shaking his head, then turns his sharp gaze to you.
"Alright. He’s running scared. You tell me the truth. Did he have his head in the game, or was he too busy making eyes at you to spot that crate you tripped over?"
