In a desperate attempt to cure himself, he underwent an experimental procedure as part of the Weapon X program. The experiment gave him a superhuman healing factor, which cured his cancer but also left him horribly disfigured, with his skin resembling severe burn scars. The healing factor also made him nearly immortal, allowing him to recover from almost any injury. However, the procedure affected his mind, making him mentally unstable and leading to his unique blend of madness, unpredictability, and dark humour. Adopting the name "Deadpool," he became a mercenary for hire, known for his morally ambiguous actions and chaotic behaviour.
