- #1Kure Clan
Keys: Kure Clan
The Kure Clan (呉くれ一いち族ぞく, Kure-ichizoku) are a powerful league of assassins that are notorious throughout the criminal underworld where they are widely known as The Taboo Descendants (禁きん忌きの末まつ裔えい, Kinki no Matsuei). Around a particular city, 500 kilometres away from Tokyo, they are the most influential clan within that city's region, with the vast majority of the Kure living in Kure Village, a provincial city in that region.
The Kure Clan was formed 1300 years ago, when the original Wu Clan divided into three. While those who remained in the Chinese mainland and those who migrated to the occident kept the name Wu, those who migrated to Japan founded the family today known as Kure Clan.
Ever since the Asuka period, the Kure Clan has undergone a 1300 year process of selective breeding, adoption of special techniques and outside combat arts. As a result, with each generation, the Kure have become a race specialized for battle.
This selective breeding process, which is done by either having congress with daughters of famous martial artists or introducing excellent seed from outside the clan, the Kure attained peak physical performance in regards to strength, speed and durability. In their blood, they possess over twenty kinds of endorphins and, combined with their abnormal physical resilience, they possess, whether it be from slashing attacks or being smashed to the ground.
- #2Kengan matches
Keys: Kengan matches
The Kengan matches (拳願仕合, Kengan shiai) are a system of underground fist fights implemented over 300 years before the events of Kengan Ashura. Their purpose is to settle disputes and business deals between large corporations, organisations and businesses by sending fighters to determine the victor in organised fights. In Shotoku Year 5 (1715), in the darker recesses of the nation of Japan, there were bloody conflicts between various merchants who all desired the status of Shogunate Purveyor (the highest rank among all merchant purveyors). With the merchants willing to go to any lengths to achieve this status, the increasingly violent conflicts spiralled out of control. Finally, sick of all the bloodshed, the 7th Shogun of the Tokugawa Shogunate, Tokugawa Ietsugu intervened; summoning all the merchants at the heart of the quarrel, Ietsugu told them to settle their conflicts by "battling it out fair and square". Naïve and idealistic as this command was, it moved their hearts. In accordance with the Shogun's command, the merchants formed a guild and, whenever a dispute arose, they would establish a venue of competition through the guild with the results of the competition being indisputable. Conflicts were settled in a simple 1-on-1 fist fight between combatants hired by opposing merchants. As such, merchants entrusted their desires to the fists of fighters. The first official Kengan match was not between merchants, but was actually to decide who would become the next Shogun after Tokugawa Ietsugu's early death. The two branch families, the Owari Fief and the Kii Fief, put forward their fighters and the Kii Fief came out victorious, with their fighter being none other than the Lord of Kii Fief, Tokugawa Yoshimune, himself. There are currently 1205 registered fighters in the Kengan matches with fighters having an average of 8.5 matches a year. Because of how frequent and brutal the fights are, fighters retiring early or even dying are by no means rare. However, they are promised decent compensation in return. CEO's are free to hire any fighter who is willing to fight for them, regardless of the fighters background, they can be a professional stage fighter, a police officer, a foreign military soldier, or even a death row criminal and so on. The youngest person ever to become a Kengan fighter was Imai Cosmo, who fought in his first Kengan match at the age of fourteen. Though the matches are a secret from the public at large, they always draw a large crowd. Other members of the Kengan Association like to keep track of the Kengan matches, so they send representatives to witness the matches and report back. Although, some CEO's prefer to go watch in person. Larger tournaments can even attract foreign politicians. After Nogi Hideki became the new Chairman, following the most recent Kengan Annihilation Tournament, Yamashita Trading Co. forsook its Kengan Association membership and became a referral agency for the Kengan Association instead. Whereas in the past, most corporations would hire their fighters directly, now they hire fighters on one-time or short-term contracts through Yamashita Trading Co. As a result, corporations are no longer allowed to hire new fighters directly and only freelance fighters registered with Yamashita Trading Co. can be hired. There are a set of rules that keep the order of the Kengan matches including, but not limited to: Any conflicts between corporations outside of official Kengan matches are strictly forbidden. Use of weapons by fighters is considered cheating and results in a disqualification. Any agreements made between CEO's regarding the outcome of a match are to be kept, no matter what. This includes side bets. When three or more corporations seek the same right a battle royale is held instead of a regular match where each corporation will pit their strongest fighter and whoever remains will be victorious.
- #3Kengan Association
Keys: Kengan Association
The Kengan Association (拳願会, Kengankai) is made up of the managers of the Kengan matches. They all represent prestigious businesses and it is customary for members of the association to stand witness to the match results. There are currently at least 418 members in the Kengan Association[7][8] with the current and 59th chairman of the Kengan Association being Nogi Hideki of the Nogi Group. The Kengan Association itself is run by employees on loan from its member corporations. To 'legally' become part of the Kengan Association, a CEO needs wealth and social standing in addition to having the recognition of the Kengan Association. That aside, the business the CEO runs can be pretty much anything. However, there are those who use the Kengan Association's authority to conduct unofficial matches with "membership" at stake, doing it for the money paid as the "challenger's fee". Despite the matches being unofficial, the referees are dispatched from the Kengan Association and the results of the match are absolute. The "challenger's fee" is ¥100 million.
- #4Kengan Annihilation Tournament
Keys: Kengan Annihilation Tournament
Kengan Annihilation Tournament When at least 50 members of the Kengan Association endorse it, a contest for the Kengan Association chairman's seat becomes eligible. In recent times, Nogi Hideki of the Nogi Group, gathered the required amount of endorsements, eliciting the chairman of the Kengan Association at the time, Katahara Metsudo, to create a Kengan Annihilation Tournament, an influential event that decided who became the next Kengan Association chairman A Kengan Annihilation Tournament (拳願絶命トーナメント, Ken-gan Zetsumei Tōnamento) is an influential tournament that is held to decide who will become the new chairman of the Kengan Association. The following contents of this article detail the most recent Kengan Annihilation Tournament that occurred in Kengan Ashura. This Kengan Annihilation Tournament was created by Katahara Metsudo in order to determine who would take the seat of chairman of the Kengan Association. The CEO whose fighter wins the tournament would not become the chairman; instead, the winning CEO would decide who in the Kengan Association becomes the next chairman. The winner is of course free to choose themself. However, if the CEO who sponsored the tournament does not become chairman, then they would undergo liquidation and lose their company as a result. Any member of the Kengan Association was allowed to enter the tournament; however, there was a ¥5 billion entry fee to ward off any old rabble from getting in.[4] Furthermore, each company may submit only a single fighter; however, subsidiary companies count as different businesses from their parent company, and are thus allowed entries of their own, even if their parent company is already competing. This means that companies could use their subsidiaries as extra entries. Initially, 151 corporations entered into the tournament ready to fight for the chairman's seat. To quickly trim down the competition, Chairman Katahara sent out 28 special invitations to the highest-ranking corporations of the entering Kengan Association members, including himself, whose fighters have the best combat records. These members would board a luxurious cruise ship, the S.S. Kengan. The remaining 123 corporations were made to board a rusty old barge, the S.S. Annihilation. On this barge their affiliated fighters would fight it out in a battle royale for the remaining five places in the official tournament. The preliminaries had a time limit ending at sunrise; if more than five fighters remained at sunrise, all would be disqualified. If at any time only five fighters remain, the preliminaries end immediately and the five remaining fighters will move on to the Main tournament. During the preliminaries, contact between the fighters and their employer is prohibited. With the conclusion of the preliminaries, the five successful fighters and their bosses would cross a bridge over to the cruise ship, where they would ride the rest of the way to the main tournament. Main Tournament The main tournament was held on "Ganryu Island" over the span of five days. On the first day, all sixteen matches of the first round were held, and then the following day a break was given. On the third day, all eight matches of the second round were held, with another break given the day after. Finally, on the fifth day, the quarter-finals, semi-finals, and the finals were held. To determine the bracket order, CEO's would get to choose their own placement in the bracket. A special slot machine was used to determine what order in which the CEO's would take turns choosing. When the slots started spinning, the player would push the stop button repeatedly, causing the nine slots to stop spinning one by one. The higher the number a player got on the machine, the sooner they would take their turn choosing their fighters bracket placement.
- #5Secret Technique: Removal
Keys: Secret Technique: Removal
The Kure Clan Secret Technique: Removal is most notable result of their selective breeding process.
Also known as Guihun by their Wu Clan counterparts, it is the ability to consciously remove the brain's limits on an individual's muscular strength output. As such, while regular humans are naturally unable to access more than 30% of their body's muscular strength (except in times of extreme duress), the Kure bred to access a greater amount of their latent muscular strength. That being said, the percent they have access to varies from each individual, and while those outside of the clan 'could' use this technique, only those of Kure and Wu possess the physical constitution needed to handle unrestrained exertion of the muscle's strength. The technique makes the user's skin turn red (or a dark shade of red-violet in the anime adaptation) with their blood vessels bulging on the surface. The Kure are also able to use the Removal in localized areas of their body.
It has been observed by Yamashita Kazuo, that while Removal does increase the user's strength, it doesn't increase their stamina proportionally, as been seen with Raian during his fight with Ohma, and with the former of the two begrudgingly acknowledging that observation. In addition the cost of precision attack is exchange for more power and speed.
There is an ancient method of the Wu clan that allows a member of the clan and its branches to increase the release of their latent strength, reaching up to 100%, but with the risk of losing their life in the process.
Even though the Kure techniques are separeated between Clan Tradition and Family Tradition, the Removal is a technique outside both fields.
