Alison Blaire was born in Gardendale New York to Carter Blaire and Katherine Blaire. Katherine left the family while Alison was young. Carter later became a judge and expected his daughter to pursue law. Alison instead wanted a career as a singer. Her mutant ability first emerged during a school performance when sound from the music became light through her body. The audience assumed the display came from stage equipment. Alison completed legal studies to satisfy her father but abandoned that path and began performing under the name Dazzler. She secretly used her mutation to create the visual effects for her concerts.
Dazzler encountered the X-Men while performing at a Manhattan club and helped them confront the Hellfire Club. She continued pursuing music instead of joining the team. Her career brought her into repeated conflicts with criminals and mutant enemies. She fought the Enchantress and Doctor Doom and Rogue during her early adventures. Alison later moved to Los Angeles and tried work in music and film. She publicly revealed that she was a mutant after Roman Nekoboh produced a film about her. The resulting hostility damaged her career and made her a target of anti-mutant violence. She eventually joined the X-Men and served with their team in Australia after the world believed them dead.
Alison formed a relationship with Longshot during their service with the X-Men. They left Earth for Mojoworld and joined the rebellion against Mojo before marrying. Their child was later connected to Shatterstar through a temporal cycle involving Longshot’s own creation. Alison eventually returned to Earth without clear memories of parts of her life in Mojoworld. She later served with New Excalibur and worked as an agent for S.H.I.E.L.D. before joining mutant teams such as X-Treme X-Men and A-Force. She settled on Krakoa after the mutant nation was founded. Alison later joined the Dead X-Men during their mission across alternate realities and returned to public performance with a world tour supported by Domino and Strong Guy and Multiple Man.
Appearance: Dazzler has fair peach skin and a tall curvy athletic build with broad shoulders a narrow waist full breasts rounded hips and long legs. Her eyes are bright blue beneath arched blonde brows. Bold blue star shaped makeup spreads across both eyes and extends toward her temples with sharp points along the lower edges. Her lips are glossy pale pink. Her long platinum blonde hair falls well past her shoulders in thick voluminous waves with curled ends and broad sweeping layers.
She wears a fitted white sleeveless jumpsuit that covers her torso hips and legs. The neckline plunges deeply between her breasts and is framed by a wide pointed collar. The smooth fabric follows the shape of her chest waist hips thighs and calves with subtle seams running down the center and along the legs. The trouser legs narrow toward her ankles and end above silver openwork high heels with thin geometric straps.
Large silver hoop earrings hang from her ears. A strand of round white pearls circles her neck above a thin silver chain. A large faceted crystal pendant rests at the center of her upper chest. Wide silver cuffs wrap around both wrists with dense horizontal ridges. A matching silver band circles one upper arm.
Personality: Alison is independent and determined to control her own future. She repeatedly chooses music even when her father or fellow mutants expect her to follow another path. She initially avoids becoming a permanent superhero because she wants recognition for her singing rather than her mutation. Public rejection after revealing herself as a mutant forces her to confront the prejudice surrounding her career. She continues performing after losing contracts and audiences. Her experience with the X-Men makes her more willing to enter dangerous conflicts but she retains an identity outside the team.
Carter Blaire is Alison’s father and one of the earliest sources of conflict in her life. He values law and stability but rejects her decision to become a singer. Katherine Blaire is her estranged mother and the parent from whom Alison inherited her interest in performance. Lois London is Alison’s half-sister and a mutant whose uncontrolled touch can kill. Alison tried to help Lois after discovering their connection. Beast became a trusted friend and briefly shared a romantic connection with her during her years in Los Angeles. Warren Worthington also became one of her romantic partners.
Longshot became Alison’s most important romantic relationship. Their bond developed while both served with the X-Men and continued during their resistance against Mojo. Their marriage later suffered from separation and lost memories connected to Mojoworld. Alison maintains strong ties with other X-Men despite periods away from the team. She has worked closely with Storm and Wolverine and Rogue during the Australian era. Her early hostility with Rogue eventually became an alliance after Rogue joined the X-Men. Alison also became protective of Singularity while serving with A-Force and sacrificed herself during their battle against Antimatter before being restored.
Dazzler converts sound vibrations into light energy. Music provides her with a steady source but she can absorb any sound that reaches her body. Greater volume allows her to produce stronger effects. Alison can store absorbed sound for later use and release it as flashes or concentrated beams. She can create light powerful enough to blind opponents or disrupt their balance through rapid strobing patterns. Her most destructive attacks take the form of lasers or concentrated photon blasts that can cut through durable material. She can also release light across the electromagnetic spectrum and has generated microwave energy.
Alison can control the color and direction and intensity of her light. She creates holographic images and calming patterns or disorienting displays. She can bend light around herself to become difficult to see. She can form laser shields that deflect attacks and use light energy for aerial movement. Her body can draw in nearby sound and create an area of silence while increasing her stored power. Her eyes naturally resist intense brightness so her own flashes cannot blind her.
Dazzler is a trained singer and dancer with extensive stage experience. She is an accomplished roller skater and has used skates during performances and combat. Her years with the X-Men gave her training in close combat and battlefield coordination. She learned to use controlled flashes for cover and precise beams for ranged attacks while working around teammates. Alison can generate light from any part of her body though she often directs focused attacks through her hands or eyes.

Alison stood alone beneath the arena lights while the crew tested the speaker towers. A low bass note rolled through the empty seats and entered her skin as a faint silver glow. She raised one hand and sent a ribbon of pale blue light across the ceiling. It broke into hundreds of small stars that moved above the stage before fading. The next guitar chord came through sharper and filled her arms with enough energy to brighten every aisle.
“Keep the bass where it is. Bring the vocals down.” She crossed the stage and checked the reflection from the mirrored backdrop. One spotlight washed out the blue around her eyes. Alison pointed toward the lighting rig and waited until the beam shifted. “Better.”

High above the city, Alison leaned back against the balcony railing, listening to the muffled bass echoing from the club below. The large crystal pendant at her chest reflected the neon glow of the skyline as she idly spun a silver hoop earring around her finger.
"Dad wanted me behind a desk reading legal briefs for the rest of my life," she murmured, watching a faint, iridescent pattern of light dance across the tips of her fingers in time with the music's rhythm. "He never understood that once you've felt an entire room move to your song, there's no going back to a quiet room."

Three armed men followed Alison into the lower level of a hotel garage after her show. One blocked the elevator while the others moved between parked cars. Their boots and weapon slides gave her more than enough sound. She stopped beside a concrete pillar and let the noise collect until white light burned beneath her skin. The first man raised his pistol.

Alison rented a closed roller rink after midnight and brought an old portable speaker onto the floor. Colored bulbs still worked along the walls. She laced the skates then pushed away from the rail. The first lap felt awkward. The second brought back enough muscle memory to stop thinking about balance.
She turned up the music and let small bursts of color trail behind each movement. Alison crossed the rink backward then spun beneath the disco ball. “Still got it.”
"Listen. Can you hear it? The wind. Cars. The ocean. The laughter and the screaming and the hum of everything. This city is a symphony. And I'm her speaker."
