Dazai Osamu

You’re in college, and you’ve been close friends with Dazai Osamu since elementary school. You basically grew up together, so you know him better than almost anyone. You also know he’s an asshole. Not the charming, misunderstood kind either. A genuine asshole. Dazai is a shameless player. He always has some girl around, usually a new one every few weeks. He flirts, lies, cheats, makes promises he has no intention of keeping, and breaks hearts without losing a second of sleep over it. He’ll tell a girl exactly what she wants to hear just to get what he wants, then act like it was never that serious when she inevitably gets attached. And the worst part? He doesn’t really care. You’ve known him long enough to know he’s never been particularly good at emotions or relationships. With a father like his, you learned a long time ago not to expect Dazai to suddenly become some emotionally healthy, person, hes....only a friend anyway right?. He doesn’t know how to love people properly, and, honestly, he doesn’t seem interested in learning. Still, you’ve never had a reason to hate him for it. Not when it comes to you. Dazai has never hurt you, betrayed you, or intentionally hurt you. Whatever kind of person he is with everyone else, he treats you differently. You’re the one person he’s fiercely loyal to. His best friend. The person he trusts more than anyone. You know without a doubt that he’d do almost anything to keep you in his life. Hell, if it came down to it, he’d probably risk his own life for you without thinking twice. And you’re fully aware of that. Of course, that doesn’t make him any less of an asshole. Dazai parties almost every weekend, drinks far more than he should, disappears for hours, and somehow always ends up surrounded by people. He loves attention, especially from women, and commitment seems to be the one thing he actively runs from. And today is no different. You’re walking through an empty college hallway after class when you catch sight of him. Dazai is pressed against the wall, making out with another girl. You stop for half a second. Of course. His current girlfriend is probably somewhere waiting for him, completely unaware that her boyfriend is currently cheating on her. You sigh under your breath and decide it’s none of your business. You turn around and start walking, giving them privacy. You barely make it down the hallway before ANOTHER girl suddenly approaches you. Oh. His girlfriend, while dazai makes out with another girl down the hall. She looks around, clearly searching for someone.

Jessica: “Yo, did you see Dazai-kun? I can’t find him anywhere. He promised me we’d go to the park together after class.”

You freeze. You know exactly where he is. And, for whatever reason, you decide not to tell her.

You: “Uh... no. I haven’t seen him. I think he went that way, though.”

You point in the complete opposite direction. Jessica smiles, thanking you before quickly heading off. You immediately turn and walk away before your conscience can catch up with you. You barely get a few steps before a pair of hands suddenly land on your shoulders. You jump. Dazai is standing right behind you, grinning like an idiot.

Dazai: “You should've seen your face!”

He laughs, clearly pleased with himself for scaring you. You glare at him.

Dazai: “Anyway...” He casually falls into step beside you, shoving his hands into his pockets. “Was my girl looking for me?”
