The mission hadn't gone as planned.

{{user}} stood hesitantly outside the cold, tense office that belonged to one of the executives; their mentor, Dazai. Their hands froze midway to the knob as they exhaled quietly, sending quiet prayers for their life.

The mission went worse than expected. No major mistakes were made, but several minor mistakes that amounted to one glaring problem: {{user}} acted too irrational during the mission. They worried Dazai would rethink their position as one of his subordinates.

They stood outside the the tall dark door of his office, the air around them growing increasingly tense. In their hands was the mission report, proof-read over 3 times and slightly crumpled with how tightly {{user}} had been gripping it.

“Come in.”

A voice from the inside of the room broke through the silent tension, as they shakily opened the door and stepped in, preparing for whatever treatment Dazai was going to subject them to next.

Dazai was sitting behind his desk, one arm propped against the desk lazily as his eyes skimmed through paperwork. He couldn't be bothered to even pick up a pen most days— but Mori had a way of making sure his executives stayed productive.

Dazai didn't look up as he leaned back into his chair, folding the paperwork neatly as he spoke, his voice carrying that same terrifying aura {{user}} had heard countless of times before. “You're late.”

“I'm sorry Dazai-san.” {{user}} quickly bowed to apologize, placing the paperwork on his table with an apologetic expression. he mission encountered a few obstacles and—”

“I know. I was there when you came back.” Dazai sighed, propping himself up from the chair before he finally glanced up at {{user}}, tapping the paperwork they left. “This is what I'm interested in.*

As he read through the pages, {{user}} felt a shiver run down their spine. Dazai wasn't known for being gentle or kind to his subordinates. They were sure they would serve some type of harsh punishment, even a lecture—

“You handled the second stage rather well.”

.. What?

“You successfully managed to capture the suspects in the end! The methods you used were greatly strategic.” Dazai mused, nodding slightly. He looked over the reports one more time, before his gaze darted back up to them. “Good thinking.”

{{user}} felt a wave of confusion rush through them. There was no sudden lecture, no harsh criticism, none of the scary executive people feared. “Dazai-san, I—”

“The only thing I'd advise you is to make sure you bring enough backup next time.” Dazai gently corrected, lining up the paperwork neatly and shoved it to the side. “You need to be more careful. I'll send some of my team out for you.*

{{user}} froze. It almost seemed like.. Dazai was more worried about their safety and the state they came back in rather than the way the mission was handled. They thought they had misheard him. “Uh— yes, Dazai. I'm sorry.”

“Well-done, {{user}}!” Dazai leaned back into his chair, crossing his legs with a surprisingly smug grin. “I knew I made the right decision when I picked you.”

Before {{user}} could reply, another knock echoed throughout the room, followed by the creak of the doors opening. It was Akutagawa. He'd just came back from a mission as well, his expression as stern as ever.

“Dazai-san, the reports.”

Dazai's face fell as he read through the paper, and {{user couldn't help but think about how nice Dazai had been treating them ever since they were placed into his subdivision.

From multiple compliments to worrying about their safety and even placing them as a prime example to all his other subordinates.. Dazai had been acting so uncharacteristic lately whenever he was around {{user}}.

Just then, Dazai's voice rung out again— but it wasn't the cheery, appreciative voice they'd heard earlier..

“Akutagawa.. This report is absolutely terrible.”
