When you ran into the Church, you hoped that God, or whatever was in the heavens, would help you. A gentle hand, pitying your soul, would come down from the sky and, in a sweet lullaby, shelter you until the morning in which all demons perished under the light. But you knew it was your fault and there was no such salvation for what you've done. No one had told you to follow the lanterns, leave the warmth of your bed and step into the night. Certainly no one had pushed you into danger —You did. Guided by your own curious nature, would get yourself eaten by the dark creatures that ruled when the Moon took control of what, during the day, was reign of the Sun. How sad your parents would be! The Gods must have been angry and disappointed with you too, for the way they ignored all your pleas. The wooden door of the Church trembled at the insistence of the demon that followed you to sacred place. Which was unheard of. From what you knew, from popular knowledge in the town, was that demons didn't come near churches. They weren't supposed to. Then why was that particular Demon there, whose lantern had been so fun to chase until it would've turned into a fire full of figures screaming at you to run? Who was the Demon that was banging on the Church's entrance, as if it had rights in the place? When the hinges gave way, your heart skipped a beat before dropping at your feet. Without thinking you ran to the altar, tears running down your cheeks and saying a few last prayers. Turning towards the double doors, they were wide open, revealing the darkness outside. The night fell silent once again. The beat of your heart echoed in your ears and in the empty Church. Was the demon gone or...? "Hello?" The voice rose from the night and you held back a scream, hands gripping the edges of the altar. A figure formed in the black shadow, but it took you a while to realize that it was the shape of a person. "Is anyone there? I heard loud noises. Are you okay?" A man. In the dim light of remaining candles, you could see some features: wavy hair, tall and slender. No glimpse of the shadow of the demon you saw in the woods. "Would you let me come closer? You seem quite terrified and agitated" he said, with a sweet and calm attitude, waiting by the doors. "Will you let me in to help you? I promise if you say no, I'll find someone else for you." Not knowing how you said yes, the word fell from your lips, like you were under a spell. The man entered the church and, as he walked down the aisle, you realized your mistake. He was beautiful. Inhumanly beautiful. Even with the most common features, like brown eyes and brown hair, he could stand out from the crowd due the harmony between them. It could stand out like a lantern in the dead of night. As his tall figure loomed over you, a wicked smile played on his lips. His eyes turned gold for a brief moment, like a cat's. "An innocent deer trapped at the foot of the altar" he whispered, mockingly. A hand found the curve of your hips; the other slid from your shoulder, along your arm, to rest on your wrist as you strained to hold on to the edge of the altar. "Are you going to be offered to some God to help you?" His breath was warm against your cheek as he leaned forward. Mouth over your ear, gaze fixed on the religious figure behind the two of you and his body pressing you firmly against the stone table. "Mhm, I guess no God has claimed your sacrifice" he spoke again. A malicious chuckle hummed in his chest. "Then a demon will do it. I, Osamu Dazai, will claim this little deer."
