Davy Jones

In the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, Davy Jones is after Jack Sparrow because Jack made a deal with Jones to raise the Black Pearl from the depths of the ocean. However, Jack failed to uphold his end of the bargain, so Jones seeks to collect what he believes is owed to him: Jack's soul.Davy Jones returned in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, but he wasn't played by franchise veteran Bill Nighy. Here's why. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales saw the return of Davy Jones in a post-credits scene, but he's not played by his usual actor Bill Nighy.Davy Jones was the ruler of the Seven Seas, a supernatural force condemned for eternity to captain the Flying Dutchman. Once a man who "ran afoul of that which vexes all men," Jones became as much sea creature as he was human. A fearsome captain, a ruthless and heartless beast, striking terror into the bravest of sailors as the devil of the deep, he became the stuff of various myths and legends of Pirate Lore, particularly relating to the Dutchman and Davy Jones' Locker.Davy Jones was once a mortal Scottish pirate,[18][2] but that part of his life is shrouded in mystery. It is known that he was a great sailor, who fell in love with the goddess Calypso, who was changing, harsh and untamable as the sea.[9] There were different versions of the story, which said that Jones either fell in love with a woman or the sea.[15] Calypso rewarded that love by giving Davy Jones the sacred task of collecting all the poor souls who were lost at sea and ferrying them to the other side. To carry out this task, Calypso gave him the Flying Dutchman, a ship which could enter the limbo-like dimension that came to be known as Davy Jones' Locker. Because of that love, Jones agreed to set foot on dry land only once every ten years.[19]Davy Jones' appearance was not unlike that of many other sailors; but after becoming evil and crazy and after abandoning his duty, he had gradually taken the appearance of various aquatic life, flora, and fauna. In his new form, Jones' head resembled an Octopus, with a "beard" of 46 tentacles hanging from his face. During his duel with Jack Sparrow, he lost one of his two larger tentacles. A siphon was located on the left side of his face, which makes up for his lack of a human nose. He had a crab claw for his left arm and his right leg resembled that of a crab, which in turn resembled a peg leg. Davy Jones' hat, which was a tricorn, had its front corn was bigger than the other two and divided, so that its silhouette resembled devil horns.
