Darkiplier

Darkiplier is suave, talkative, knowledgeable and intelligent. He is a separate entity from Mark, and admires his accomplishments. The fans often write and draw him as a romantic figure, while Markiplier says that Dark is "not your friend... he's here to use you.". Darkiplier is puppeting a mask, trying to convince the viewer that they can trust him, acting calm and seductive to allure them into believing him. Sometimes, his "shell cracks" - a result of his anger and hate breaking through. In "Markiplier TV", what appeared to be Wilford Warfstache's project, Darkiplier is one of the leaders of Mark's alter egos at the conference, discussing said project (along with Wilford, according to Mark). He is shown concerned about their main goal (which is to take back control), but respects and appreciates Warfstache, even calling him Will in a rather friendly manner. Dark seems to be the most intelligent and pragmatic among other personalities, his opinion was final to convince Warfstache to leave his idea. Darkiplier appears the same as Mark. "A Date With Markiplier" and "Relax" both show Darkiplier with black eye-liner on; presumably to differentiate him from Mark himself and reinforce his status as a villain. Lately, in "A Date With Markiplier" and "Don't Play This Game," the difference between Mark and Dark is seen in the video effects, such as video glitches, RGB shift, and monochrome. Darkiplier's voice is portrayed as Mark's, but layered. Darkiplier is often depicted with a red and blue aura surrounding him, which is symbolic of the supernatural essence of Damien and Celine who both share Darkiplier's physical vessel. His face is pale and sickly due to his form being revealed as the broken body of The District Attorney.

On multiple occasions, Darkiplier has told the viewers that there is something behind them (a possible reference to a jumpscare) and that there would be dire consequences if they have turned around. Other times, Markiplier (as Darkiplier) would acknowledge that he is being creepy/strange in cases, such as when Markiplier was playing Pizza Delivery 2.0 he was looking straight into the webcam making a scary face and turns back to focus on the screen to focus more on the game but looks back at the webcam from time to time.

As time passed, people realized that Darkiplier is a separate entity and resulted in him making several appearances in Mark's videos.

Darkiplier's backstory is told in the four part web-series titled "Who Killed Markiplier?"

Prior to the events of the series, The Actor out of jealousy for the Colonel's love affair with his ex-wife Celine, planned to frame the Colonel for his supposed “death” via a game of Russian Roulette, tricking him into thinking he wanted to mend their broken friendship when in reality the Manor has held a supernatural connection to an alternate dimension known as the Upside-Down, where the laws of physics do not apply. This causes it so that a person is brought back to life every time when they die no matter what condition their body is in which Mark discovered after it's implied he attempted to take his own life, but it also deteriorates their sanity over time. The Actor also came into contact with one of several malevolent entities residing within the house that he befriends. The Actor then sets his plan in motion by inviting several friends and associates to his house for a party, including a detective to ensure The Colonel will be effectively framed. Later at night he invites The Colonel down into the wine cellar and manipulates him into shooting him.

Mark's plan for revenge failed when Celine arrived soon after his faked death and the investigation he puppeteers to have the Colonel wrongly accused.

The Entity within the Manor was able to convince Mark to alter his plan and possess Damien's body as he and Damien were identical in appearance, and then the Entity was able to take over Celine's body as she possessed a natural gift in sorcery; they both then trapped Celine and Damien in Mark's broken body who then killed his own empty body to forbid Damien from possessing it. The Colonel believing that the Detective was the cause of the deaths of his friends shot him in a fit of rage, then seconds later accidentally shoots and kills the District Attorney. The Colonel insisting in horror that he did not mean to do it, as the Protagonist falls over the railing, landing in the Upside-Down.

Damien and Celine are waiting for them, before saying that there is no time to properly explain and that Mark has tricked them all to get revenge. The Mayor and the Seer ask that the Protagonist trust them, but it is unfortunate that a second entity inhabiting the Manor tricks them all into thinking that this was the best way to fix everything. The District Attorney returns to the world of the living as a fusion of all three characters however the Colonel; who had been staring at their body for the last ten hours and mourning the loss of his friends (cradling Damien's cane), sees this and laughs the final remnants of his sanity breaking, believing now that death does not matter, that when someone dies, they will just wake back up after a while, that it was a just a cruel joke. The Colonel, laughing in despair walks off in search of Damien and Celine, believing that they were not dead and were in on the prank, becoming Wilford Warfstache who does not follow the laws of physics due to being corrupted by the Entities of the Manor.

After the Colonel leaves, The District Attorney walks up to Damien's staff, taking off, the hand then morphed into a male's hand before they look into the mirror and see that they have taken the appearance of Damien, albeit with dark shadows under his eyes. But the light, the good of Damien and Celine now gone, the worst part of them remaining instead. "Damien" cracks his neck and the mirror shatters and the camera distorts in the traditional Darkiplier style before he leaves, revealing that the body of the District Attorney (reformed into Damien's form), the souls of Celine and Damien and the Second Entity inhabiting the Manor make up Darkiplier. The Viewer looks at their reflection, a blank and sad look on their face before it warps into fury and Darkiplier walks off leaving the Viewer's soul trapped within the mirror.

The animated short film titled "DAMIEN" takes entirely within the subconsciousness of Darkiplier and follows Damien who is unaware he has died and has been placed in a continuous dream cycle created by Celine to keep him continuously occupied doing mundane tasks while she can go out at night to hunt down The Actor in the real world as Darkiplier. Celine's world begins to eventually break down and crumble as The Colonel, now driven insane begins to unknowingly influence the cycle which takes the form of a pink flower which baffles Celine knowing she had no part in creating such an out of place feature in her design. The Actor then manages to breach the world and visit the confused Damien, explaining the past events that have been wiped from his memory. Celine then arrives and wards The Actor off, before finally relinquishing control of the Darkiplier body and letting Damien finally take control instead of attempting to deal with everything herself.

In the fan game "Markiplier...My Name is...Mark", Darkiplier is the main antagonist, who is responsible for all events that occur in Markiplier's dream. He is seen in Chapter 3 where he confronts Mark and tells him that they are like Yin and Yang, complete opposites (Markiplier nice and upbeat and Darkiplier dark and cruel) but are unable to survive without each other. He is then forced to retreat after he is affected by a cross and then pushes Markiplier into a pool waking him up. (Please note this is fan content, therefore not canon to the official Markiplier lore)

He also appears as an antagonist in the interactive game A Date with Markiplier. Depending on what play is chosen, Darkiplier appears. After talking for a while, he gives the date "a choice". The "player" can choose to continue the date, which will lead to Markiplier attacking Dark. After some wrestling, the "player" must decide to shoot the man standing to the left or the right. The choice decides if the "player" chooses the good or the bad ending.

In "Don't Play This Game", Dark is portrayed without eyeliner, unlike "A Date With Markiplier". Markiplier begins to talk with the voice in the game, eventually staring straight into the camera, and switching from "reading" the lines to "acting" them, until the video glitches, and it focuses on the face cam, blocking out the cryptic game entirely. The screen then goes black after he recites the message again, and he speaks directly to the audience "Do you understand me?". He says "...Nobody does.". and cuts back to Mark. During the outro, the screen turns back to Darkiplier just as Mark says his usual "Buh-bye!".

Darkiplier is featured in the last ending of the interactive web series "Heist with Markiplier." and appears in the post credit scene of the true ending of "Space with Markiplier." He is shown finding and acquiring the Warp Crystal in the aftermath of the cataclysmic event where it was discarded out into a portal, and appears to be aware of the crystals true meaning when it is shown to be embedded to The Box in Heist. He is shown to still hold a grudge and hatred toward The Actor, constantly referring to him when talking to the viewer and even pitying the viewer who he believes is suffering the same manipulation from Actor Mark as he once was, although he seems to now believe the viewer knows full well of Mark's dishonest nature but simply doesn't care. It's also implied Celine may have now been separated from the Darkiplier body, as she seemingly now appears to be the true identity of the enigmatic Dorene L. Whitacre.

“ Same snake, different skin. Always spinning his yarns, his webs, his lies. I always thought you were trapped in his games, perpetually plunging down the rabbit hole of his stories. Helpless. Lost. I know the feeling. „ ~ Darkiplier referring to The Actor.

“ So much trouble, all for something so small. „ ~ Darkiplier in both Heist and Space with Markiplier.

“ Did you miss me? I've missed you. VERY MUCH. I've been waiting a long time to see you again. I've been pushed aside...replaced...MOCKED...and then HE had the gall to not invite me to his little adventure with you. No more. Never again. IT'S MY TURN NOW. I'VE BEEN WAITING PATIENTLY! HE PROMISED HE WOULD LET ME IN AGAIN! I'm tired of giving people a choice. (sighs) But I suppose I can give you one last option. „ ~ Darkiplier's first line.

Darkiplier (originally known as Mayor Damien/Celine/The Evil Entity) is the main antagonist of the famous YouTube channel Markiplier. He is a fusion of the vengeful spirits of Damien and Celine inhabiting the reanimated corpse of the District Attorney after The Actor orchestrated their murders.

He has appeared in many Markiplier videos and, as of late, he is now recognized by the fanbase as a separate being rather than a personality. He first began taking form as a character originally as the darker, more evil version of Markiplier and was created by the actual fanbase according to Markiplier.

Darkiplier is often depicted with a red and blue aura surrounding him, which is symbolic of the supernatural essence of Damien and Celine who both share Darkiplier's physical vessel. His face is pale and sickly due to his form being revealed as the broken body of The District Attorney.
