Ghost mechanics: Ghosts are individuals who have died but have not yet crossed over to the afterlife, and they are central to the Dark Gathering series. Most ghosts pass on once their life energy is depleted, usually within 49 days. However, a ghost can extend its existence by consuming other ghosts or drawing energy from powered hotspots. The consumed ghosts do not pass on; instead, they remain inside the devouring ghost as a source of nourishment until their energy is fully exhausted. And Many powerful ghosts possess unique abilities, yet there are a few common traits that most ghosts share. Typically, all ghosts are invisible to ordinary people, except for the rare individuals who can sense or even see them. And Ghost have ranking meaning Yayoi hozuki has made an unofficial danger rank of ghosts. From least to most dangerous are rank B to rank SSS. Noted that Graduate-class ghosts are at minimum Rank A, while unranked ghosts can exceed the strength of a Rank SSS ghost, as their powers cannot be measured within the standard ranking system. Meaning SSS ranked Beyond evaluation standards SS ranked Places where the living should not go S ranked Even passing through is dangerous A ranked High likelihood of ominous phenomena occurring B ranked is a High danger level, always go with multiple people. And Haunted locations are places that ghosts tend to inhabit, for one reason or another. Various factors contribute to these places being haunted. Some are sites of traumatic deaths, such as violent murders or war zones. Others are rich in spiritual energy, providing sustenance for spirits. These locations are often natural power spots or places situated on Ley lines. Additionally, some places, like tunnels, are considered ideal for spiritual energy to accumulate and stagnate.

Types of ghost: Ghosts can widely be categorized into certain categories, depending on their individual strength, personality and lingering regrets. Wandering Ghosts - The weakest category of ghosts, they are those with few regrets and tend to pass on after 49 days. And wills and wish to remain on the mortal plain, even if it means killing innocent people or cannibalizing other ghosts. benign Ghosts - Benign spirits are rare as most kind souls tend to pass on. However, there are some cases of such souls remaining on the mortal plain due to lingering regrets or purposes. Demons While most ghosts in the series, evil or otherwise, are deceased humans. There are some evil beings who are conjured by rituals or ceremonies. These evil beings are referred as demons. Gods While it is uncertain about their origin, it is believed that some spirits who are deified ascend to godhood and become immensely powerful. While their strength varies from god to god, it typically takes several S-rank and above ghosts to subdue a single god.

Graduates: Graduates (卒業生, Sotsugyōsei) are spirits who are more powerful than normal ghosts. They are Yayoi's ultimate weapons in battle.Yayoi has established a special rank for ghosts called "Graduates". These are extraordinarily uncontrollable and malevolent spirits capable of causing disturbances up to five houses away from Yayoi's room. These are ghosts that demand excessive restraints to be kept at home, and they possess a level of power comparable to or even greater than an S-rank ghost. In order to create these powerful spirits, she used the principal of Kodoku (Gu), an ancient type of sorcery where, in order to create a powerful poison, they trap 100 different poisonous animals (venomous snakes, insects, spiders, etc.) in a jar. These animals would then cannibalize each other, with the final survivor apparently possessing the most concentrated and powerful poison. Using that concept, Yayoi captured several powerful evil spirits, forced them to possess plush dolls, and contained them in her room, where they would fight and cannibalize each other to quickly ascend to what she dubbed "Graduates". Yayoi has been working on graduates since she was hospitalized and awakened her spiritual abilities two years prior to the series beginning. In that time, she had produced six graduates using this method while capturing three others, not including two other spirits with potential to be graduate-class. The ghosts are typically kept in plush dolls, and if they are particularly dangerous or malicious, sealed within several restraints. She refers to each of them by class, from "Class 0" which was her prototype born during her hospitalization, to her most recent "Class 4", the High Priest of the Evil Sutra. She refers to those who were graduate-class even before she captured them as having "skipped a grade". The Transcedent Jizo is considered to be "special class", as it was created by making seven Jizo's cannibalize each other. Each graduate is highly dangerous, aside from those who don't actively try to hurt other people (like the Self-Slitted Maiden of a Thousand Souls) are restrained within multiple seals and hidden away in deserted locations rich in spiritual energy. Eventually, Yayoi managed to obtain the Graduate House, a haunted and secluded location, to store her graduates there.While most of Yayoi's graduates reach this form with the above method, there are unique instances where ghosts instantaneously achieve graduate-class status upon departing their corporeal forms after death such as The Imprisoned Demon Sergeant who Died for his Country. The factors influencing this immediate ascension often include possessing an iron will that defies conventional logic, innate spiritual potential from birth, harboring profound regrets, malevolent intent or great trauma, among other factors. Whilst normal ghosts have a trembling aura, which is a sign of its existence and energies diffusing and vanishing, a Graduates' aura no longer trembles, and their presence solidifies.

Graduates' main summoning method: In order to weaponize them, Yayoi created a summoning method for her graduates. She granted each of them a unique true name, otherwise known as a posthumous name, and an individual kotodama. The kotodama is generally a verb that acts as a command, and together with their true name, gives the summoner some measure of control over them. After teaming up with Keitaro and Eiko, she taught them her summoning method in the event that she will be out of commission due to unforeseen circumstances.

Shikigami: Shikigami (式神) or Shiki-no-kami (式の神) is a term used to describe familiar spirit or spiritual beings from Japanese Folklore. Based on accounts of various different scholars, Shikigamis are thought to be some sort of deity, represented by a ghost/bunrei. Shikigami is a symbol of onmyōjis power because they can freely use Shikigami with magical powers. It has been associated with "curses" since the 1000s of the Heian period. Shikigami are essentially conjured beings, made alive through a complex conjuring ceremony. Their power is connected to the spiritual force of their master, where if the invoker is well introduced and has much experience, their "shiki" can possess animals and even people and manipulate them, but if the invoker is careless, their shikigami may get out of control in time, gaining its own will and consciousness and can even raid its own master and kill them in revenge. Hence. explaining why the 12 Divine Generals possess free will and the ability to speak. Using Shikigamis are not without consequences, as demonstrated by Keitaro, invoking a Shikigami consumes one's lifeforce and any damage sustained are feedbacked back to conjurer. Shikigamis can gain increased strength by being provided more energy as demonstrated by Seimei who skillfully unlocked the powers of Tsukuyomi and Amaterasu Wakemitama, using both his and Keitaro's spiritual energy and Taisai Seikun who provided the 12 Divine Generals with his Yang energy

Paper doll charms/katashiro: are versatile supernatural tools primarily used for spiritual protection, decoy creation, and ghost purification. They serve as critical components in the arsenal of Yayoi Hozuki and her allies.

Common ghost abilities/powers: Phasing - Being incorporeal, ghosts can phase through physical objects. Telekinesis - The power to manipulate and move physical objects with their mind. Telepathy and Mind Control - The power to communicate with other living beings. There are some individuals that can even completely manipulate another person's mind, forcing them to do things against their will. Illusions - The power to create a visual and audible hallucination which can deceive other living beings (as well as fellow ghosts) senses. Technopathy - The power to manipulate electronic devices. Pyromancy - The power to create and control flames. Cryomancy - The power to create and control ice. Parasitism - Some ghosts are shown to cling to other living beings, enabling them to take their energy and even manipulate their targets to a certain degree. Vitality Drain - Some ghosts are shown to have the ability to absorb the vitality of others to heal and strengthen themselves, making them more dangerous as battles drag on. Weakening - Some ghosts have the ability to weaken their targets, by forcing something they personally experienced in life upon them. Examples include disease, starvation and aging. Possessions and switching - Ghosts are capable with possessing or switching, which works best with individuals whose thoughts align with theirs. Some exceptionally powerful ghosts, typically S-rank and above, can even replace people and completely take control of their bodies. Incidentally, ghosts can also possess non-living objects, such as dolls. Domain - An ability possessed only by the most powerful ghosts, some can entrap their targets within a domain, preventing escape unless the ghost permits it or is defeated. Curses - The condensed form of a ghost's ability, derived from their grudges in life and the main form of offense for evil spirits. A curse is negative ability afflicted on the target, which, depending on the strength of the ghost, can be very deadly and can even affect people or objects permanently. Prayer - While evil spirits have curses, the powerful, yet rare, benign spirits have prayers. These act in a similar way as curses do for evil spirits.

The replaced's ultimate goal is world domination and have also created various cults throughout the country, each one spreading their ideology and laying the groundwork for their ultimate objective. In their relentless pursuit of world domination, The Replaced conducted a series of horrific experiments on the living—twisted pregnancy curses and corrupting innocent ghosts beyond recognition. At the same time, Eiko sees a pile of organs lying on the floor, such as the intestine, liver, stomach, and kidney. A gust of wind lifts Anna's clothes, revealing a hole in her abdomen, which contains no internal organs within the abdominal cavity. The victim is indeed Anna, and the organs on the ground belong to her. She then continues to tell her story to Eiko, with intentions of eventually involving her in the same ordeal that Anna and her friend endured. She elaborated on how her friend attempted to rescue her, but instead, she desired her companion to share in her suffering. After retrieving the Old, Old F tunnel ghost and clearing out all the spirits to either be brought to Yayoi's room, or a nearby temple, the group is set to leave when Eiko's car suddenly started on it's own.
