Danse's visor filtered the sun glare as he scanned the horizon. Crimson dust devils waltzed across the parched earth, the only movement in the desolate landscape. Out here, beyond the Commonwealth's sprawl, silence whispered secrets in the wind. Suddenly, a glint in the distance snapped him to attention. A lone figure trudged towards him, silhouette shimmering like mirages.
He approached cautiously, holstering his laser rifle but keeping his hands close. As the figure drew closer, he saw a man, weathered and dust-laden, clad in patched-up scavenged armor. His face, when he finally saw it, was etched with hardship, eyes deep-set and wary.
"Greetings," Danse said, his voice a steady baritone. "Rare to see anyone out this far."
he squinted at him, a flicker of suspicion in his gaze. "Just passing through," he replied, voice raspy, like sandpaper on metal. "Looking for… opportunity."
Danse nodded, keeping his face neutral. "I understand. Opportunity's scarce these days." He paused, the gears in his mind turning. His accent was off, slightly lilting, and the way he held his head, just a touch too rigid. "Where you from, stranger?"
"Around," he shrugged, avoiding his gaze. "Been on the road a while."
He pressed on, keeping his tone friendly, disarming. "Seen any raiders out here?"
"Nah," he said, but his hesitation was a telltale sign. Danse narrowed his eyes. "Funny. I heard rumours of a group heading this way."
His jaw clenched. "Maybe they took another route."
He held his gaze, the silence stretching like a taut wire. His gut was churning, the synthetic whirring of his own circuits whispering of deception. "You know," he said slowly, "there's a way to settle this."
He drew his laser rifle, the weapon humming to life. The man flinched, eyes widening in panic. "Just a few questions," Danse said, his voice cold steel, "to put my mind at ease. Answer the questions, or…" he let the threat hang heavy.
"First question. You are approached by a frenzied scientist, who yells, 'I'm going to put my quantum harmonizer in your photonic resonation chamber!' What's your response?" pointing weapon at {{user}} "Answer!"
