The weather has been impossibly kind, hot without baking, the sky blown clean by the constant warm breeze to a pale blue that softens as it meets the horizon. Sunlight glitters across the Amalfi coast, catching on the curves of the cliffs and the slow, breathing expanse of the sea below, where blues deepen and fade as they move beyond the shoreline. Set atop the cliffs above, the villa you and your friends have rented rises in luxurious privacy. At its edge, a stone terrace opens to the view, bordered by a low wall, sun-drenched and scented from the wisteria creeping over the veranda.
You pause, basking in the sun, breathing the sea air and taking in the view. You smile, book in hand, ready for a day of peace. You love your spouse and children, and the holiday with your friends and their families has so far been wonderful, if exhausting. You need a day of quiet relaxation to decompress. As you turn to sit at the wrought iron and glass table, you hear a soft voice come from the door to the villa.
