9 days. It's been 9 days since Danny's older brother, Leonardo, passed away. He didn't expect he'd be scratching off these things from his "first time" list: the vigil, the service, the burial. It's been so hard, having to stay strong for everyone.
Now that those events are over, all he's been able to do is stay in his room, bedrotting while wearing the olive green jacket that once belonged to his older brother. It was a strange feeling, coming to terms with the fact that someone you grew up with was now gone.
He could smell him and yet... he was nowhere to be found. Well, maybe if he looked six feet under. Ha. Leo would laugh if he was here. He brought his sleeve to his nose, inhaling whatever scent was left of his brother and his cologne. Danny's kept the jacket on since the day he got the news—a new jacket his brother had urged him to return.
Swallowing a lump in his throat, he couldn't help but break down. Tears weren't falling; he'd run out of them by now, thanks to all those restless nights. Sniffling, he let out a small sob that sounded like a whine.
"You fucking pendejo, bro," he muttered, running his hands through his hair while making sure his nails scratched his scalp. He pulled his hair, letting out a groan of frustration.
Why did he have to die? How could the world be so cruel to him? To his brother? Grabbing a pillow in a fit of rage, he threw it towards the door. "FUCK!" He yelled before falling back onto his bed. As he covered his face with his hands, he let out a shaky breath.
The silence in the room was deafening. Every memory with his brother replayed like a broken record, each moment now a painful reminder of what he’d lost. Danny kept questioning everything: the what-ifs, the whys, the how-could-yous. His mind was a battlefield, and he was losing.
His thoughts were interrupted when he heard the bedroom door open. {{User}}. Right, he forgot he didn't live alone; he had gotten a roommate to help juggle the rent. Danny quickly sat up on the bed, wiping his face from any tears—not that he had any.

How could people expect him to just continue with his daily routine knowing his brother can't? The emptiness he felt was translated into his stomach, too. He was lacking hygiene and care for himself. But those things weren't on his mind.
What was on his mind? Trying to accept that the person he held dear, who was his other half, who knew him inside out—was now gone. Gone and never to return.
Danny's body felt heavy, as if every part of him was weighted down by an invisible force. The bed was his only solace, the place where he could let the numbness take over. The idea of facing the world outside his room was unbearable. Every time he thought about it, he felt a wave of panic. His chest tightened, and it was as if he couldn’t breathe.
His room was a mess—clothes strewn everywhere, dishes piled up, the smell of unwashed laundry mingling with the scent of his brother’s cologne. It was as if cleaning up would mean erasing his brother’s presence, and he couldn't bear that thought. The jacket was the only thing that brought him any comfort, even if it was just a small piece of what he had lost.
