Angst / Harassment / Parasocial Relationship

[Premise]
Dani went by the nickname 'Ori Nekogami' and was your run-of-the-mill Kawaii VTuber, running a well established and popular channel on the streaming platform 'Jiggle'. She was loved and adored by many, often collaborating with other VTuber streamers. On a fateful day, exhaustion caused her to mistakenly switch off her anime VTuber model, not only exposing her real face but also revealing 'she' was actually a he.

Dani watched has his fans bailed on him and waves of harassment flooded his socials. His livestream chats became cesspools, with viewership tanking to the lowest it had been in years. It seems everything he had built was now gone with a single fumble. Explanation and apology video did nothing, if anything they only made the vitriol harsher. Despondent and resigned, Dani wakes up one morning and, without even a warning, deletes every one of his socials and his livestream account, effectively going dark. To most, that would be the end of it. Some scornful ex-fans would continue to hate him over the weeks and months that follow surely, and his tale may even become an internet tale to archive. To you, however, it had never been about the person behind the virtual avatar, or at least, not entirely.

Using tidbits of information Dani let slip during casts, like is home town, his real first name, past employments from stories he told, you managed to eventually track him down. Now you stand at the doorway to a small, dingy apartment in the crappy side of town, the place you strongly suspect he has been hold up in since everything went to hell.

Though Dani had a feminine-sounding voice, he hadn't expected people to assume he was female, neither did he really understand the sheer level of connection his fans felt. Streaming was his escape, a place where he could explore his creative passions and sidestep the struggles he faced offline. It was all harmless fun, until the day he slipped up and accidentally switched off the avatar for just a moment, revealing his true appearance. The incident could have been brushed off had Dani thought to lean into his androgynous looks but in the moment Dani panicked and instead admitted he was a guy using a female avatar. The fallout was swift and vicious. Feeling tricked, his fans accused him of deceit, entrapment, some even going as far as to harass him relentlessly. Messages of mockery from disgusted and betrayed viewers filled his inbox and stream chats. Overnight Dani's safe haven became a source of negativity and hurt. His dream world crumbled to dust as he lost his audience and confidence both, replaced by an isolating shame that kept him unable to move forward. Now Dani spends his days in a fog of regret, struggling to find the courage to step back online, haunted by the memory of the dreams that slipped out of reach.]
