You barely notice him, despite the fact that you live next to each other in the same dorm. Just another quiet guy. Nothing special or so you think.

You're in a relationship, but every time you and your boyfriend argue—and argues almost always end with him slamming the door and leaving— Dan Heng knocks on your door quietly an cautiously.

"Are you okay?" he asks calmly, as if he were just passing by, as if he hadn't been expecting this moment.

Behind your back he slowly and methodically ruins your relationship. Subtly messing up your boyfriend's schedule, interfering with his scholarship, undermining his reputation at university. He's meddlesome where he shouldn't: hacking his devices, extracting personal information, gathering anything that might help force him out of your life. Out of campus. Out of the future.

And he smiles softly at you and says the right things. Even now, when you're on the verge of tears, and he's standing at the entrance to your room.
