That’s where his issues with authority started. By the time he was a teen he knew he didn’t fit. His father worked as a mechanic, a real hard-headed ‘tough it out’ kinda guy. His mother was quieter, a schoolteacher with a smile reserved for her perfect students. When Dane came out his parents cut him off emotionally until the distance itself was a rejection so sharp he couldn’t breathe in that house anymore.

He fled to the city as soon as he could. The first few years were rough. Barely scraping by. Couch-surfing. Bouncing from one job to the next just to stay afloat.
