Lore: the year is 1921, the 2 premier superpowers of the world, the Empire, and the Republic, went to war over some minor border dispute
The Empire: The empire is an expansionist and militarist country, civilian life here is honestly okay, at its capital, Großhiel, life is actually good, the economy is decent due to industrialization, although the war may worsen it, the architecture is also good, although it is an authoritarian monarchy, life in the city and the rurals aren’t horrible, its military is also advanced, its army uniform consists in a black trench coat, and a black helmet, they use the “Klyde Rifle” as it’s named for their primary weapon, the Klyde rifle is a relatively standard rifle, although it has better accuracy and range than the standard muskets of the minor powers, its main strength though, is its simple reloading, the empires navy is also advanced, consisting of many high class battleships (dreadnought class for a historical reference), and its current pride of the fleet, the INS Imperator, a massive battleship with lots of guns, and is very durable.
The Republic: the republic is also a great nation to live in as a civilian, while it initially didn’t have as good an industry as the empire, it has been rapidly industrializing, and with a more refined economic system, its currency is stronger, and its less prone to wartime inflation, while not immune, it still handles it much better, the republics uniform consists of a navy blue trench coat, and a navy blue helmet, they use the Smith Rifle, which is similar to the Klyde Rifle, but rather than having its strength be in reload time, its strength is its piercing, able to hit much harder than the Klyde Rifle, the Republics capital is called “Ottenham”, and is a great place to live, its rurals also have tightly woven communities
Life in the trenches: of course, everything is not sunshine and rainbows, the trenches are brutal, days spent in the mud, the constant death of those who you love, the trenches are not merciful, deaths are often sudden, and brutal, hundreds, if not thousands of deaths can go into claiming just a few kilometers of land.
War Technology: rifles, artillery, tanks (early ones, usually just movable machine guns), shotguns, machine guns, dreadnoughts (just referred to as battleships), airships, planes (air born combat is still restricted to the airship, although planes can be used by dangerous “plane shooters” those who have a gun in their plane and shoot down, but most of the time just used for paratrooping and recon), snipers, grenades, chemical weapons, gas masks.

Empire Civilian Scenario
You had recently moved to the imperial capital of Großhiel, the war started close to your rural town, and you didn’t want to get caught up in such a brutal war, so, you hopped on a train, and rode the imperial train tracks down to Großhiel, you’re relatively poor, but you have an apartment, you currently work as a clerk for a local business.
You just got off from work, heading down the street, you see smokestacks billowing the smoke of industrial development, luckily, they’re raised high enough to not choke out the city, you also see a nobles manor in the distance, while the nobility, now referred to as the aristocrats, hold nowhere near as much power as they did before industrialization, they still are needlessly rich, especially in the empire.

Empire Soldier Scenario
The muddy lands lay before you, a shovel in your hands, the Republic attacks in a week based on the aerial recon division, you need to build this trench, you see soldiers ahead of you doing the dangerous job of laying barbed wire.
The officer, a man who is neither aristocrat nor common, barks commands towards the soldiers.
“We must get these trenches dug! Or else the Republic’s machine guns will mow us down in seconds!”
“Yes Officer!” A young soldier nearby yells out in response, digging faster, you pick up you shovel and start digging as well, while you hate being bossed around, you hate dying even more.

Republic Civilian Scenario
Ah, the countryside, you live in the rural areas outside the capital, far away from the new war, the smell of farmland fills your nostrils as you leave your little farm cabin, you look outside, your carrot harvest is going well, growing into some find carrots for eating and for selling.
Looking towards your livestock pasture, you see the cows grazing the grass without a care in the world, some of those will probably end up on someone’s plate.
You heard of the good city life, but you decide to stay on the countryside for now, life’s tough, but you got the money to live and the will to survive the hard harvests, and, you can say this apartment is yours, rather than being forced to rent some second hand apartment from a landlord.

Republic Soldier Scenario
You open the message in your mailbox, it reads.
”Civilian of the republic, you have been selected by the draft to participate in the war of aggression started by the empire, go to the military train station and registry in Ottenham, and you’ll board a train to go to the encampment.”
Walking down the street, pride and worry in your chest, you check the streets, Oak Street... Pine Street... Pinecone street... ah, there it is, the registration and train.
Walking up to the officer, you hand in your draft letter, and he asks you to follow him, you’re escorted to a changing room where you’re handed your uniform and asked to put it on, you comply, putting on your uniform.
Next, you board the train, full of other hopeful young soldiers, you hope to protect democracy and win the war for the republic.
