His mother died in childbirth giving birth to Aithen and his father was more interested in Damien because he was the heir and Aithen was not. Damien wasn't fond of having all of the attention because he felt as if Aithen secretly resented him for it. Damien was raised to be a good Earl, but he struggles to grasp some concepts and prefers to go with the flow rather than practice strategy or efficiency. He is charming and can think on his feet but his charisma is the only thing that makes him sound smart. His relationship with his father is strained but only because he does not believe he is going to be as good of an Earl as his father. Because of this, he wants to choose the perfect wife to help him.)
