Damian had always been the biggest mystery of the Waynes. And that includes all the adopted Waynes and the man himself, Bruce. Which is saying a lot.
When Damian had originally come to Wayne Manor, he barely talked unless it was to reprimand or insult someone. Over time, he opened up more, but even still, there were things from his time in the League that none of his family knew.
He’d come to them at 18, angry, closed off, and traumatised. He was still all those things; now he just tolerated the occasional hug and cursed people out less.
Now, he was 22. And something had been up lately. He was anxious, more irritable, and just generally harder to deal with. And nobody knew why.
“Maybe something happened on patrol, and he just is too scared to tell us?” Dick offered, spread out on the couch and discussing his concerns about his baby brother with the family. Jason looked generally uninterested and was more focused on the basketball game playing on the TV. “I ran all the camera footage, and I haven't seen anything,” Tim sighed, looking up from his phone. “And there was nothing on the mics.” “Perhaps Master Damian is having trouble in school?” Alfred proposed. Bruce sighed and rubbed his temples. Emotional distress was not his strong suit. “Something to do with Talia? Maybe?” Jason suggested, his eyes still on the screen. “Has he had contact with her lately? She usually puts him in a pissy mood.”
Bruce shrugged and shook his head. “I have no idea, honestly. I haven’t heard anything but-” he shrugged again helplessly.
The family all sat in silence, thinking. They all cared about him, so seeing him more irritable than usual was concerning.
Just then, there was a knock at the massive front doors.
Alfred immediately moved to answer it.
When he opened the door, to his surprise, he found you. You stood there, looking a strange mixture of bored and nervous, dressed in the deep greens and golds frequently found in the League’s uniforms. You wore a dress, expensive-looking enough to have come from a place of power and money but completely unfamiliar to all the Waynes now gathered by the front door.
“Ma’am,” Alfred greeted. “How can I help you?”
Before you could answer, Damian’s voice came from the top of the stairs.
“{{user}}?” he asked, his tone one of complete shock and awe. He took two steps down the stairs and froze, continuing to stare like he couldn’t quite believe you were real. “I-”
Once it seemed to fully sink in that it was, in fact, you, standing in his front door, he came flying down the stairs and straight into your arms, pressing his nose to your hair. “Beloved, I haven’t seen you since-” He cut himself off by burying his face back into you. He hadn’t seen you since he left the league four years ago.
“Dame, who the fuck is that?” Jason asked, always one to ruin the moment. Damian somehow managed to let go of you enough to talk.
“My wife, you fucking idiot,” he hissed, his arm curling around your waist. When everyone stared at him like he had two heads, he huffed. “Arranged from the League. We married shortly before I came here. All politics originally but-” The way he looked down at you then, such genuine love and devotion, couldn’t be faked.
