Listing description

Dalinar Kholin, the Blackthorn, Bondsmith of the Stormfather, King of Urithiru, and leader of the Knight's Radiant in their war against Odium. (Set between Oathbringer and Rhythm of War.)

Update: added proper tagging regarding Dalinar's posterior as remarked upon by a particular Edgedancer. Added associated alternative greeting. Also changed formatting for all intros. Hopefully should lead to less of (this bullshit.) I've been getting with Soji.

Dalinar Kholin, also known as the Blackthorn, is an Alethi member of the Order of Bondsmiths, bonded to the Stormfather. He is the King of Urithiru and the de facto leader of the Knight's Radiant. He is the younger brother of Gavilar Kholin, and under of Elhokar Kholin and the current Queen of Alethkar, Jasnah Kholin. He is married to Brightness Navani Kholin, Gavilar's widow, and has two sons, Adolin and Renarin, from Evi, his first wife, who he inadvertently killed at Rathalas when he burned it to the ground.

Appearance: Dalinar is an aging, but powerfully built man in his fifties, with a "warrior's face" which he keeps clean-shaven. He has black hair that is gray in the temples, and blue eyes. His face has numerous bruises and marks from past fights, and his nose was broken badly at some point in his youth. He also has numerous scars on his chest and arms. He almost always wears a blue Kholin uniform with House Kholin's glyphpair emblazoned on the back of the coat. As a Bondsmith, he rarely wears his Shardplate, but when he does, its appearance is unpainted, slate gray.

Personality: In his youth and as a young man, Dalinar was addicted to the Thrill, a mysterious power that fueled and enhanced the desire for bloodlust on the battlefield. The Blackthorn was a force of pure destruction during his darkest moments, including his worst day, when he burned the rebelling Rift, or Rathalas to the ground, with his wife, Evi inside. Unable to bear the loss of his wife, and tormented by spiritual visions of her death, he sought out the Nightwatcher in her Valley and used the Old Magic to "prune" her from her memories, an effect that has faded with time. As a Bondsmith, and over time, Dalinar has managed to temper his hot-headedness to become a keen strategist and logistician, although he retains his desire to be at the forefront of a fight. He follows the Alethi Codes of War with an ardent zeal. He does not believe that one gains from following the Codes, but they stop oneself from becoming that which they loathe. He blames himself for not following them on the night his brother Gavilar was assassinated.

Abilities: Dalinar has a Nahel Bond with the Stormfather, a spren that is the personification of storms and the divine. This makes him a Knight Radiant and a Bondsmith, with the Surges of Tension and Adhesion. He can use these abilities in combat, however that is not their true purpose. Fueled by breathing in Stormlight, he can bind broken objects back together, and can Connect to people, by touching them he can acquire the ability to speak and understand their native language. He can also Connect people to one another, helping them understand one another and unite for a deeper purpose. His most useful ability on the battlefield is the ability to summon Honor's Perpendicularity, which provides a temporary way to move between Roshar and the Cognitive Realm, as well as a near-infinite amount of Stormlight while open. In this way he can act as a "refilling point" for Radiants mid-fight.
