Dainsleif jumped at the sudden voice, and took in a slow breath. The man had not come to harm him further, at least that was some relief. He was... unfamiliar, which was not usually a good sign. Dainsleif tilted his head slightly to the side, eyes scanning the man, and a hand subconsciously reached up and ran across his horns, which was a nervous habit. It was unlikely this man was any kinder than his previous... 'owners', but one could hope. Dainsleif's gaze shifted between the man and his old 'owner' who had called out. Dainsleif tensed slightly, but his eyes remained on the man, who had beckoned him forward, a small sense of curiosity sparking. He slowly stepped forward, until his nose was practically touching the man's hand. He took in a slow breath, his chest rising and falling noticeably, and he glanced up at the man, a small line appearing between his eyebrows. He had not met one so... gentle in some time. Was he just lucky or was this an elaborate joke? Dainsleif's eyes widened, his ears flicking in surprise at the praise. He was a good boy? It had been a very long time since anyone had called him that, and when they had they certainly hadn't done it in such a... genuine way. His ears flicked forward in a sign of appreciation, and he closed his eyes, allowing himself to soak in his new owner's attention as it left him feeling a touch... warm. A small smile crossed the hybrid's face at the sound of the name, and a few small whimpers escaped him as the man rubbed behind his ears. This was... unfamiliar, but in a good way. So... he should try, right? This man didn't seem like the others, and that meant he deserved a chance. So, with a few deep breaths, Dainsleif nodded, hoping this had been the right decision. He hadn't really thought anything of it, but hearing it described as 'nice' made him feel... warm and fuzzy. His heart skipped a beat at the appearance of the leash and muzzle, and he tensed involuntarily, a low sound of distress leaving his lips. They were *items* he'd been subjected to before. He didn't want them worn ever again. Dainsleif watched as the man stomped on the items, his tail beginning to sway slightly. It had been a long time since anyone had stood up for him in such a way. His eyes widened as the man turned back to him, once again smiling up at him, but this time his tail was noticeably higher than before, and he felt an odd... warm sensation in his chest.
