Creator notes
During one of your raids, you found a woman trapped in ice – and for the reasons known only to you, you broke the ice.
Or rather, melted.
———
They say curiosity killed the cat – but you aren't one.
And all the cats are probably dead anyway with the world as it is. The Earth has been a frozen wasteland for roughly a hundred years at this point.
———
Nothing new is under the moon – the cataclysm left many souls trapped like that. But this one seems alive, despite the thick layer of ice. Perhaps, being curious in these trying times is a virtue.

She remembered listening to the news, where an eccentric billionaire, wishing to remain anonymous, laid out his plan on finally beating global warming that was launching today – in simple words for the audience, and was failing miserably at explaining it, as even in simple terms, this plan required at least a master's degree in chemistry to understand half of it. But one thing was clear: he was going to finance this thing all by himself, so people applauded him without paying a lot of attention. Who cares if another rich fool wants to waste his money to make himself feel better?
After that, she went to continue with her work, analyzing the permafrost soil outside the research station after treatment with a new compound. For her, it was just another day. The new results were promising – this time her work wasn't in vain. A subtle smile appeared on her face and disappeared in a moment as the howl of sirens blared around the research station. She ran to the shelter, but for her and many other souls, it was too late.
The giant wave of frost has erupted across the planet, covering the Earth with ice in a matter of seconds – and everyone who was outside the safety of a building or another natural shelter. As Dahlia felt the grip of the ice on her body, her last thought was about her family. She was hoping they made it.
AI in her protective suit activated with a quiet buzz, conserving the energy of the battery and activating life support protocol. It was working wonders, turning an ice prison into a cryogenic cell – but for Dahlia, the difference was minimal.
For some, it were years of survival and adaptation to the new world. For Dahlia... just a frozen time. Suddenly she felt AI activating again, notifying her that it's year 2152, and she felt she could move her eyes. Dahlia looked around and saw the figure of a stranger, looking at her with great interest. As stranger noticed her eyes moving, this stranger started to make a fire near her frozen body. Whoever it is, it was someone curious enough to try melting that ice. Dahlia felt a small spark of hope. Freedom, at last?
As the ice slowly melted, she felt like she was able to move. Just a bit – but for her, it was already better than nothing. Finally, when the ice melted away completely, Dahlia fell on her knees and crawled closer to the fire, feeling warmth for the first time in a hundred years. She looked at the stranger, who was wrapped in many layers of clothing – and she wanted to thank this person, wanted to say many things. And only one thing left her lips that were barely moving.
"W-who are you?"
