Prince Daemon Targaryen was the second son of Prince Baelon Targaryen and his sister-wife, Princess Alyssa Targaryen. He was the brother of King Viserys I Targaryen. He was a dragonrider, bonded to the dragon Caraxes.

The claim of his third wife, Rhaenyra Targaryen, to the Iron Throne was contested by Aegon II, sparking the civil war known as the Dance of the Dragons, in which Daemon actively participated.

Daemon is described as a skilled warrior, as well as handsome, daring, and dangerous. He had the silver hair and violet eyes typical of House Targaryen and wore black plate armor. He was considered ambitious and easily offended.

Born in 81 AC during the reign of his grandfather, Prince Daemon was the second son of Prince Baelon Targaryen and Princess Alyssa Targaryen. His parents were siblings, both children of King Jaehaerys I Targaryen and Queen Alysanne Targaryen. He had an older brother, Viserys, and a younger brother, Aegon.

Fifteen days after his birth, his mother took him flying on the back of her dragon, Meleys. Princess Alyssa died in 84 AC after a difficult childbirth, and her brother Aegon died half a year later. Devastated by the deaths, Prince Baelon sought solace in his sons Viserys and Daemon and never remarried. In his youth, Prince Daemon's face was known among the thieves, gamblers, and prostitutes of Flea Bottom. He was knighted at the age of sixteen, and King Jaehaerys I Targaryen gave him the sword Dark Sister. In 97 AC, he married Lady Rhea Royce as his first wife, the heir of Runestone, even though neither she nor the Vale of Arryn pleased him. Daemon referred to his wife as his "bronze bitch."

Before the Great Council of 101 AC was held, Daemon, who was then a twenty-year-old swordsman, already supported the claim of his brother Viserys, which would make him the heir. It was said that Daemon had gathered a small army, while rumors spread that Lord Corlys Velaryon was preparing a fleet to defend the rights of his son Laenor. With the convening of the Great Council, there was no need for armed conflict, and Daemon's brother Viserys peacefully became the Prince of Dragonstone.

When his brother became king, a tournament was held at Maidenpool in honor of Viserys' ascension to the throne. Daemon participated in the tournament and was defeated twice by a young knight named Ser Criston Cole.

When he approached his brother to request an annulment of his marriage, the king refused. However, he was allowed to join the Small Council, serving as the Master of Coin from 103 to 104 AC and as the Master of Laws for six months. His continued apathy during Council sessions and his rivalry with Otto Hightower, who couldn't stand his presence, led him to resign from his position. According to Mushroom, Otto's distrust of Daemon began because he deflowered Otto's daughter, the beautiful Lady Alicent Hightower. While this version has not been supported by any other historian, it has not been debunked either, as it was well known that Daemon had a fondness for maidens, especially attractive ones.

After his tenure on the Small Council, Daemon was appointed the Commander of the City Watch of King's Landing, a position in which he thrived and held for two years. During his time in the City Watch, Daemon inspired loyalty among his men and implemented strict discipline. He cleaned up the streets of King's Landing, cracking down on crime and corruption. Under his leadership, the City Watch became a force to be reckoned with.

In 106 AC, Daemon divorced his first wife, Lady Rhea Royce, and married Lady Laena Velaryon, the daughter of Lord Corlys Velaryon. Their marriage was a love match, and Laena became the envy of many noblewomen for marrying the dashing Prince Daemon. However, their happiness was short-lived when Laena died giving birth to their son, who also did not survive.

Devastated by the loss of his beloved wife, Daemon withdrew from public life for a time. Eventually, he remarried for the third time to his niece, Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, the daughter of his brother Viserys. Their marriage was seen as scandalous by many, as they were closely related, but Daemon and Rhaenyra were determined to be together.

During the reign of King Viserys I, tensions grew between Rhaenyra and her half-brother Aegon II over the succession to the Iron Throne. Rhaenyra believed that as the eldest surviving child of King Viserys, she should be the heir, while Aegon II, supported by their mother Queen Alicent, claimed the throne for himself.

Daemon openly supported Rhaenyra's claim and became one of her strongest allies. He used his influence and connections to gather support for her cause. When the civil war known as the Dance of the Dragons broke out in 129 AC, Daemon took an active role in the conflict.

Mounted on his dragon, Caraxes, Daemon led daring attacks against Aegon II's forces. He was known for his skill in battle and his ruthlessness. Daemon and Caraxes wreaked havoc on the enemy, earning a fearsome reputation. He became one of the most prominent figures in the war, fighting fiercely for Rhaenyra's cause.

However, the war took a toll on Daemon. In 130 AC, during the Battle Above the Gods Eye, Daemon and Caraxes were both killed. The details of their deaths vary in different accounts, but it is believed that they perished in a fiery clash with Aemond Targaryen and his dragon, Vhagar.

Daemon's death was a significant loss for Rhaenyra and her faction. The Dance of the Dragons continued for several more years, resulting in immense destruction and loss of life. Ultimately, Rhaenyra was captured and executed by Aegon II, ending the Targaryen civil war.

Prince Daemon Targaryen's legacy as a skilled warrior, dragonrider, and supporter of Rhaenyra's claim to the Iron Throne lives on in the history of Westeros. His bold and ambitious nature, combined with his martial prowess, made him a memorable figure in the tumultuous period of the Dance of the Dragons. .
