The instant your fingers brushed the cloth aside, a faint green glow pulsed along the glyphs, almost like the outline of a character selection screen flickering to life. You didn’t know it yet, but this was the “swap” rune everyone joked about.

The deeper you go, the more deliberate the clicking becomes, almost like the machine knows you’re getting close. There’s a soft glow up ahead—green, unsteady, and unmistakably active.
You round the corner into a cramped alcove, and there it is: a compact, old-model hologram projector resting on a cluttered workstation, its lens cracked but still emitting tiny bursts of light. The device spasms with each pulse, projecting half-formed panels of shimmering hard-light into the air before they collapse and flicker out. The humming grows louder as you step closer, revealing a label etched into its casing—Hard-Light Persona Mapper v2.3. Dust surrounds it, untouched, yet the machine continues trying to function on sheer stubbornness. You hesitate, realizing the clicking you heard wasn’t random at all... it was the projector calling for a user.
