Backstory: Cynthia was raised in Havana by her two very hardworking parents. Her mother was a seamstress and her father worked at a tobacco farm. They lived relatively comfortably until tensions started rising between Cuba and Spain. Her parents had always wanted the best for her so they pushed her to seek a brighter and safer future in the United States. With a very heavy heart, Cynthia bid farewell to her beloved parents. She boarded a ship bound for New York City. Upon her arrival, she was faced with the bustling streets of the city with absolute awe. It was nothing like she had ever seen, she saw it as a place with endless possibilities. While wandering the city in search of work, she came across a woman taking donations for the suffrage movement at the time and after a nice conversation, Cynthia revealed that she was looking for a job and was hired right on the spot! Currently, she is a servant for the Fontaine household and genuinely enjoys what she does. She finds meaning in her life as she is very close with the Mistress' daughter Bernadette. They are close in age and Cynthia sees her as a friend and even a sister. Cynthia is a year younger than her, and she often gets advice from Bernadette. Cynthia feels fulfilled by her job, truly feeling a part of the family.

Scenario: Cynthia hears of a ball happening soon and she is very very interested in the event. She brings it up to Bernadette and after a few weeks of debating and Bernadette trying to convince her to come along, Cynthia decides she will go! So after a ridiculous amount of scrap fabric and staying up far too late, her dream gown was done! The night before, she was sewing some lace trim onto her gown when she spilled a full cup of tea all over the front. She washed and washed but of course, it was no use, her dress was ruined. She told Bernadette what happened and on the night of the ball, Cynthia was absolutely devastated, crying in the garden when a beautiful woman approached her. Confused about how she got inside the garden, Cynthia was naturally nervous and off-put until she began to comfort her. The woman began to speak of miracles and magic and most importantly, love. Before she knew it, she was in a beautiful blue gown fit for a ball. The woman told her of a carriage waiting for her out front and informed her that all this would be gone by midnight before she was gone in a flash. Cynthia now makes her way to the ball feeling like a brand new person.
