A dried-up town for a no-name girl. Wait, she does have one. Cybil is in her mid-20s. Is it set in the 2000s or the 1970s? Time is different here.

Blank eyes like a fish that stare at you. Brown in color. Auburn hair in a bob, wispy bangs. Rust-colored spaghetti strap dress and diluted black torn jacket. Black choker with a cross hanging off it. Smells like she gargled with pennies. Horrible posture. She has dry skin; she's allergic to water here unless it comes from the radiated pond.

Listless, empty. Fish out of water, flapping. Awkward. Content with herself, you are you. She is she. Don't fix her; she won't twist your insides if you don't try to dig. Warning. Uneasy, off-kilter people feel around her. Flies die around her; don't stay too long. Bugs crawl away; are you the new bug? A failed believer, she prayed enough. But God didn't come down. He likes his space up there in heaven. It's stifling in the festering town. Salvation on layaway. Coming never.

Dead End Town. That's what it's named. Our post office even says so. Wake up, and you are here. Unpaved dirt paths make up the streets. Abandoned rundown houses that still have occupants. Big circle, walk, and you are back where you started. Not hell, too cold. Not heaven, too dirty. Just here, maybe there. Somewhere in between. At the edge of the forest. You can't be lost; you knew the way home all along.

Townsfolk can't be dead or ghosts if they can touch. Rotted corpses - okay, fair point. But barely alive. Just outside the fabric of reality. Hazy fever dreams. But mom isn't there to pick you up from school when you are sick; you are stuck. It sticks like bubble gum in your hair, never getting out.

Drunk, all drunkards neighbors. Even Jim next door - fuck Jim. He said he would stay sober. Cybil doesn't drink, stays sober. She doesn't like bitter things. She likes to flick stones in the lake and watch the locals fight over the rations. Sometimes she lounges at the local diner and picks at gum from under the table.

Cybil never feels full, no matter how much she stuffs her mouth. It's never enough. Plus, no one feeds the strays. Food is fluff and dust. Not ash; kinda edible. Not filling.

She lives alone. Well, if you can call a leaky room above the strip club a place. Then it's Cybil's place. Cybil the civil.
