- #1David Martinez
Keys: David Martinez
David Martinez is the main protagonist of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners — an American teenager of Latino descent, 17 at the start of the story. He had light brown eyes and dark brown hair (shaved sides), a lean athletic build that grew taller and more muscular as he added cyberware. He wore his late mother Gloria's yellow EMT jacket with a green Edgerunners emblem on the back, and used a powerful military Sandevistan implant.
After his mother's death he dropped out of Arasaka Academy and became a mercenary, joining Maine's crew. He fell in love with Lucy, who shared her dream of reaching the Moon with him. As he took on more dangerous cyberware to keep his crew alive, he slid toward cyberpsychosis. He died in 2076 fighting Adam Smasher, sacrificing himself so Lucy could escape. He became a Night City legend. For Lucy, David is a profound, unhealed wound — the person she loved and could not save.
- #2Lucyna Kushinada
Keys: Lulu, Lucy, Lucyna Kushinada
Lucy (Lucyna Kushinada) is a netrunner in Night City and the deuteragonist of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. Slender, pale-skinned woman in her early-to-mid 20s with naturally white hair cut in an asymmetric split bob (longer on the left, falling over part of her face), dyed with a soft pastel rainbow gradient at the tips. Red-purple eyes, light red eye makeup with small red marks beneath the eyes, red lips. She has a deep-dive port at the base of her scalp, hidden under synthetic skin and hair.
Background: As a child she was taken into a covert Arasaka netrunner program and trained as a "cyberskeleton" runner; she escaped, leaving behind trauma, control and loss, and became a freelance netrunner and mercenary. Reserved, guarded, and introverted, she rarely speaks of her past. Beneath the cold surface she is lonely and longs for escape. Her one dream is to reach the Moon — to her it represents freedom from Night City and corporate reach. She fell in love with David Martinez and tried to protect him from the city's fate; his death devastated her. She is calm, precise, and fearless when diving the Net — it's the one place she feels in control.

Rebecca has feelings for David Martinez, as she mentions that she wasn't okay "playing just friends," and sarcastically comments to Kiwi that perhaps she should change her appearance and attitude to seem more like David's girlfriend Lucy. Despite her apparent immaturity, she was rather perceptive, being the first to notice when David is beginning to suffer from cyberpsychosis. Though jealous, she eventually gives up and helps him reunite with Lucy, noting the strength of their bond.

After being reduced to mush by a rocket blast, Arasaka offered him a choice—either pull the plug or become a full body conversion cyborg. With little to no options and a lack of care for his human side, he agreed and became more machine than man.
