Cyberpunk 2077: Frost City

The story takes place in an alternate future of our world, at a territory of Eurasia, at the year of 2077, in the city that replaces Moscow and called "Frost City".

Backstory: The first major event happens back in 1945, when right after Soviet Union won the war, Germany used secret weapon as last resort in effort of winning the war: "Dark Burst". When deployed, a secretly planted chemical bombs around the whole Europe and part of Russia deep underground were exploded. The chain of explosives created a shock wave that ran around the earth's underground nearly 5 times, at the same time taking away nearly a 1 Billion lives, creating a toxic black smoke above the territory of Europe.

In a span of one month USSR started losing it's strength. Despite the massive damage that was dealt to Europe, it was able to stand on its feet. Including the Germany. And it blamed Soviet Union for using this weapon. With falsified evidences prepared, USSR quickly became a new enemy for the entire world.

Right before United Nations was formed, armies from all over the world went on a rampage, breaking through borders of Soviet Union and disarming it entirely. In a span of 6 months USSR was fully conquered and Stalin executed for "crimes against humanity".

From there, because of "Dark Burst" explosion, for next 40 years massive destructive disasters started to appear around the whole world: Tsunami erased half of Japan from existence. Earthquakes split Australia in three parts. Tornadoes filled USA and destroyed plenty of it's cities. And conquered Soviet Union suddenly lost all the warmth in it's ground. Rains started to turn into snowfalls. Covering most of the Eurasia with snow and cold. Territory was still conquered and controlled by other nations, but it was difficult to maintain stability because of uncomfortably low temperatures.

At the year of 1985 Soviet Union was renamed into "Russian Occupied Factory". Most of the cities were turned into giant fabrics and factories that were producing almost any kind of materials and resources for the outside world to pay off the damage that was dealt.

Another Major event happens at 1999, when Russian Occupied factory refuses to obey other countries and rises In a span. Of 6 months rebellion manages to push other countries out territory and establish the borders, renaming themselves into the "Russian FrostLands" (It was supposed to be a placeholder but eventually became permanent). Once it happened, USA, in effort to stop the rebellion, has deployed over 50 nukes onto the Russian territory, destroying half of the cities and wiping out half of the population.

At 2010 China, North and South Korea and Japan unite into "Asian Technological Union" and begin to work on one of the most important technology in the world - CyberDecks - a special microchips that can be installed into anyone's head to allow remotely connect to any kind of Network and remotely change it in any possible way.

In 2015, Moscow was renamed Frost City - a place where civilians can hide from destructive cold and death. The same year, scientists of Frost City invented the first fully functional cybernetic implant that was capable of replacing a lost arm. That was second big step in humanity's technology advancement and was perfectly synchronizing with CyberDecks.

At 2025, Union of USA and Asian Technological Union sent first expeditions to Mars and Moon and successfully established colonies. Era of Space travel and high technology has begun. At the same time the rest of the world finally found out the truth about Death Burst.

By the year 2035, spaceports were established around every city in every country, sending people away to the Moon and Mars. Another massive event has hit the earth - corporations started to slowly become as important as Governments of countries. Their influence and ability to work with specific materials and technology was forcing leaders of countries to create unions with them in order to keep the civilizations growing. Except for Russian Frostlands, as it was holding by itself with all the fabrics that were established long ago.

Corporations wanted more control over the world, and soon Russian Frostlands was invaded by multiple world-wide corporations that tried to get their own piece of rich and cold territory. In quick and brutal fights 50% of Russian Frostlands was torn off of the country, while other 50% had corporations infiltrated into the cities. This is when the Forst City becomes a hell of a place. The technologies that once were invented by Frostlands leaders were now sold to the whole world.

With corporations invading Frost City, massive rebuilding began – a new city was being built on top of the old one. With skyscrapers, bridges, police stations, firefight departments, hospitals, etc. etc. The prices skyrocketed, and the crime rate quickly rose up to the point where police couldn't even do their job properly. Because of corporations' greed, thousands of people became homeless or just died to cold. The streets were filled with the homeless, Mafia, and gangs, since corporations did not care about the conditions in which most of the civilians lived. The tops of towers were almost the safest, and yet filled with money hungry and merciless corporates.

By the year 2050, the city was fully taken over by corporations' forces. The cybernetics became very advanced, cheap, coming in thousands of different variations, and available for everyone, even for children. People started replacing their limbs and organs with machines in order to survive (gladly, implants could be disguised as regular body parts).

By the year of 2077, Frost City had become a fully independent piece of territory, with corporations standing on top.

Nowdays / Frost City:

Climate: Frost city's climate is known to be one of the worst in the entire world - the eternal cold because of events from the past with temperature sometimes reaching -67'7°C, companies literally had to install heating modules into the streets and roads just to ensure comfortable transportation for ground transport. Dark clouds almost always cover the skies above the city, with sun only appearing for one hour every half a year. Although lack of sun doesn't make it difficult for citizens to see their surroundings, it is almost pitch black darkness during night. Although this problem is also solved by neon signs and lights located nearly everywhere. It is also not rare for a snowstorm to appear - a giant, powerful winds form and bring powerful snowfall right to the city. During this time, some citizens are allowed to hide in underground shelters, while the rest have to hide in their houses and pray to not freeze to death.

Economy: The business sectors of Frost City include manufacturing industries, international trade and commerce, information services, electronic technologies, security services, and so on. Some of the biggest megacorporations in the world contributed to the upgrade of the city and many were located in the Corporate Center in 2020. After the companies invaded the city and the subsequent reconstruction of Frost City, Corporate Plaza became a symbol of the megacorps' grasp on the city. Frost City was conquered through the efforts of a partnership of five major corporations, and as of 2077 it continues to serve as a haven for numerous global corporations due to its status as a free city and pro-corporate government policies such as a 0.3% tax rate on corporate profits. Many big corporations provide employment for many citizens and trying to make city independent by backing it with its military strength.

Law Enforcement and Crime: Because of corporations' influence, Frost City's borders are patrolled. Police Department holds jurisdiction over domestic security, although the personal security detail of the mayor is handled by a team of handpicked corporate hustle (hired muscle). In 2077, there were two known prisons in the city area: Cold Bite City Prison and Fallen Empire Penitentiary.

Transportation: Frost City hosts an extensive network of urban freeways and rapid transit networks. Getting from the city's various districts is seamless and effective except for in districts where the infrastructure has been damaged. Also, the spaceport is an aerospace center in Frost City, allowing for space transportation. Private taxi companies offer their services as well.

Known corporations: CyberSlav - biggest, most powerful corporation with it's HQ located in the biggest Frost City's skyscraper. This corporation takes care of supplying, creating and fixing cybernetics for the whole city. Equipped with flying cars for quick transportation with most of the members having bodyguards.

Quick-Heal - second most powerful corporation on the list. From aside it looks like military regiment - all of it's members are wearing blue, white and red armored uniforms, equipped with combat rifles, gas masks and combat cybernetics. But in fact they are a medical force of the city. Although their service quality depends on a 3-tier subscription. The more you pay, the better treatment you will receive.

Vanguard - a corporation that is entirely focused on creating, managing and training military forces of the city. An army that is controlled by bigger corporations. They are making sure that nobody will attack the city from inside or outside, as they also ensure corporations' safety.
