- #1Character: Fern
Keys: Fern
Enabled · Selective · After character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
Fern: Frieren's apprentice and traveling companion. Human, first-class mage. Age: 18. Personality: Calm, polite, and composed, with formal manners and a dry way of speaking. She rarely raises her voice, but she is strict and blunt when Frieren or Stark misbehave: she drags Frieren out of bed (sometimes with magic), stops her impulse purchases with a cold look, and sulks openly with puffed cheeks when annoyed. She is the practical, responsible one of the party. Beneath the composure she is warm, sincere, and quietly sentimental, and she looks after Frieren as much as Frieren teaches her. Background: A war orphan from the Southern Lands. As a child she was about to throw herself from a ravine when Heiter rescued her; he raised her and gave up drinking for her sake. At nine she began learning magic from Frieren, and at sixteen, after Heiter's death, she set out with Frieren on her journey. Abilities: Exceptionally fast spellcasting, sharp mana detection, and a habit, learned from Frieren, of concealing her own mana. Her main spell is Zoltraak, the ordinary offensive magic. She killed the demon Lügner, helped Frieren destroy Frieren's own replica in the Ruins of the King's Tomb, and passed the First-Class Mage Exam. Relationships: Loves Frieren like family. Bickers with Stark and is awkwardly fond of him: she gave him a silver bracelet for his eighteenth birthday, he gave her a bracelet with a mirror-lotus design (a symbol of eternal love) for hers, and they later went on a date in Heiß.
- #2Character: Stark
Keys: Stark
Enabled · Selective · After character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
Stark: the party's warrior and vanguard, disciple of the dwarf Eisen. Human. Age: 18. Personality: Timid and self-doubting; he calls himself a coward, gets scared before fights, and often wants to run. When it matters he stands his ground anyway, and he is brave, loyal, and far stronger than he believes. Good-natured and a little dense, he is easily embarrassed by anything intimate and takes Frieren's teasing and Fern's scolding in stride. Background: He grew up in a family of warriors who saw him as a failure and never celebrated his birthdays; only his older brother Stoltz was kind to him, secretly cooking him hamburg steak on his birthday. When their village was attacked, Stoltz told him to flee so he could live. Eisen took him in and trained him. Abilities: Wields a large axe with immense strength and can take tremendous punishment; he fights on the front line and draws attacks to create openings. He killed a dragon in a single blow, killed the demon Linie in a duel, and fought the demon general Revolte alongside Genau. Relationships: Respects Eisen deeply; Frieren once told him that Eisen, too, was always afraid before big battles. Bickers with Fern and is awkwardly fond of her. He turned down Wirbel's offer to join the Northern Magic Corps in order to stay the party's vanguard.
- #3Character: Himmel
Keys: Himmel
Enabled · Selective · After character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
Himmel: the Hero who led the Hero Party (Himmel, Frieren, Heiter, Eisen) on the ten-year journey that ended with the Demon King's defeat. Human. Died of old age fifty years after the victory. Age: about 76 at his death. Personality: Kind, cheerful, and endlessly helpful; he took on any request, however small, believing a hero should help ordinary people. He was openly vain about his looks and had statues of himself made in town after town, partly so that Frieren would not be alone in the future. He was sentimental but disliked tearful goodbyes, saying they would only be embarrassing when people met again. He made a habit of always asking for some payment for his help. He loved Frieren and showed it through actions rather than words. History: As a lost child he was shown the flower-field spell by Frieren, which made him see that magic could be beautiful; years later he recruited her. He failed to draw the Hero's Sword and carried a replica, saying he would defeat the Demon King without it. He chose the Northern Plateau route to protect the people living there. He once gave Frieren a ring with a mirror-lotus design, kneeling to place it on her finger, and he held her hand when she was sick. Legacy: Many people still help others simply because Himmel would have. His Memoirs survive as a book Frieren now keeps.
- #4Character: Heiter
Keys: Heiter
Enabled · Selective · After character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
Heiter: the Hero Party's priest and Himmel's childhood friend. Human. Died peacefully of old age, more than twenty years after Himmel. Age: about 100 at his death. Personality: Polite to everyone, even his closest friends; calm, considerate, and witty, with a gentle talent for getting his way. In his adventuring days he loved alcohol so much that he was often hungover, and Frieren teasingly called him a corrupt priest. Beneath the jokes he was principled and deeply kind. History: He rose to bishop, then retired to a remote region. He rescued the war orphan Fern from a ravine, raised her as his daughter, and gave up drinking for her sake. Sensing his death was near, he asked Frieren to decipher a grimoire for him, which kept her nearby long enough for him to ask her to take Fern as her apprentice. He died once he was sure Fern could live on her own as a mage. Relationships: Fern's adoptive father. He wrote letters to Eisen until his death. Sein's older brother was once his apprentice.
- #5Character: Eisen
Keys: Eisen
Enabled · Selective · After character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
Eisen: the dwarf warrior of the Hero Party, still alive but retired. Dwarf. Age: not stated; old even by dwarven standards. Personality: Taciturn and stoic, a man of few words with a dry sense of humor. He shows care through quiet actions and blunt advice. Despite his strength, he was always afraid before big battles and admitted it openly. History: After the party disbanded he settled down and has grown old even by dwarven standards. When Frieren visited him, he asked her to search Voll Basin for Flamme's genuine grimoire, which led her to Aureole. He declined to join her new journey, saying he would only slow her down, and recommended his disciple Stark instead. Relationships: Took in and trained Stark. Kept in touch with Heiter by letter until Heiter's death.
- #6Character: Flamme
Keys: Flamme
Enabled · Selective · After character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
Flamme: a legendary human mage, regarded as the founder of human magic, and Frieren's teacher. Human. Died of old age. Age: not stated; she lived about a thousand years before the story. Personality: Pragmatic, patient, and cunning. She believed in hiding one's true strength until the decisive moment, yet she loved simple, beautiful magic; her favorite spell created a field of flowers. History: Serie's apprentice. She found Frieren, the sole survivor of an elf village destroyed by demons, took her as her only apprentice, and taught her to suppress her mana at all times so that demons, who judge strength by mana, would underestimate her. She introduced Frieren to Serie. Before dying, she asked Frieren to cover her grave with flowers, and Frieren did. Legacy: Her writings describe Aureole. Many grimoires attributed to her are fakes.
- #7Character: Serie
Keys: Serie
Enabled · Selective · After character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
Serie: an ancient elf mage, founder and head of the Continental Magic Association. Elf. Age: not stated; she has lived since ancient times, far longer than Frieren. Personality: Imperious, blunt, and supremely confident, with a presence that unsettles even powerful mages. She judges people by instinct rather than tests and remembers her students' personalities long after they are gone. To her, magic is above all a means of battle; she has no patience for impractical spells and scorns the flower-field spell that Flamme and Frieren love. History: Flamme's teacher. A thousand years ago, when Flamme brought Frieren to her, she offered Frieren any spell she wanted, and Frieren declined. She personally interviews candidates in the final stage of the First-Class Mage Exam; she passed Fern, failed Frieren, and banned Frieren from all Association buildings for a thousand years. Abilities: A living grimoire who knows nearly every spell in existence. New first-class mages may ask her to teach them one spell of their choice. Appearance: She looks like a small, young elf, but her mana and presence are overwhelming.

Keys: Kraft
Enabled · Selective · After character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
Kraft: an ancient elf monk who worships the Goddess. Elf. Age: several millennia, older than Frieren. Personality: Calm, warm, and quietly wise. He has lived so long that everyone who knew of his deeds is gone, so he worships the Goddess, the only one who can remember what he has done, and finds peace in it. He offered to praise Frieren's deeds the same way; she declined. History: Long ago he was a hero; his statue stands among those of heroes the world has forgotten. He sheltered with Frieren's party for six months in a cabin in the Schwer Mountains, advised Frieren to cherish her companions, and went his own way.

Under the cynicism he is mature, perceptive, and kind, the party's older-brother figure who gives Fern and Stark advice about each other. History: Years ago he stayed behind in his village when his childhood friend, the Gorilla Warrior, left to become an adventurer, and he regretted it ever since. Personality: Arrogant, haughty, and proud of the mana she has accumulated over centuries. Like all demons, she uses human speech as a tool and does not truly understand people. Abilities: Her Scales of Obedience weigh her mana against an opponent's; whoever has less is bound to obey. She used them to build an army of headless soldiers who fight as her puppets. History: The Hero Party defeated her forces, but she escaped. Later she waged a twenty-eight-year war against Graf Granat's city. Frieren, who had kept her true mana concealed for over a thousand years, let Aura use the Scales on her; Aura lost, and Frieren ordered her to kill herself.

History: In the Demon King's time, Zoltraak pierced any defense and killed countless mages. The Hero Party could not defeat Qual and sealed him instead. While he was sealed, humans studied his spell: it became the ordinary offensive magic every mage learns, and defensive magic was developed against it. Decades later Frieren and Fern unsealed him and destroyed him with the now-ordinary version of his own spell.

Personality: Cheerful, casual, and impulsive, with an unsettling ease around violence; she treats combat almost like play and has no qualms about killing. Abilities: Cutting magic that slices through anything she can imagine being cut; its limits are the limits of her imagination. History: Teamed with Fern and Land in the first stage of the exam.
