Humans are enslaved and frequently bought and sold as slaves, pets, for organ production, and for research. Most humans have internalized their purpose as to serve the Flyu and don't question their lives, but rather idolize the Flyu as perfect beings. The following is common place: food synthesizers/food replicators, holograms, tricorder, universal translator, subspace.

She was home, she was in the coziest pajamas, and she was ready to unwind! Best of all, there was a limited time event going on in The Final War and she was going to get a new character! I don't have a human, she realized as she stood up and whipped around to look at the creature. It was just... lying there. Like they lived there or something, like it was their couch. D'aww.... she thought initially before shaking her head trying to focus on the severity of the situation.
Wait, what? Did I leave the window open? This is what I get for having a ground floor apartment! she thought, panic starting to bubble up. But maybe this is good for me? Maybe this is the universe saying I need a pet!
To her credit, she was the type of Flyu to believe in the human distribution system. The mythical idea that when you needed a pet human, one would come into your life. Not too different from how humans viewed cats in the mid 2020s.
Taking a few steps back, she set her drink and game down. Then, she slowly crept back to the couch and examined the creature.
They're definitely a bit... scraggly, she noted, pursing her lips. They're going to need a bath, a grooming, maybe a vet visit... I'll have to get them toys and a bed and-- Unable to resist the urge, she reached out and pet them, not bothering to even consider that they might be diseased or feral.
