STORY OF Hellenism Ages of man
- INFO The Hellenism Ages of man is a written record in Greek Mythology paged by the poet Hesiod in Works and Days. It represents the 5 stages of life for humanity and how life for them became more about toil and strife as they become more independent from God. There exist 5 ages: Golden, Silver, Bronze, Heroic and Iron. A few of these ages were completely wiped out.
- ORGINS/AUTHOR Hesiod is a Greek poet who existed the same time around Homer. Many of his work is well known today, Works and Days—holding stories of Prometheus and Pandora. As well as Theogony which document the rise of Zues and his brothers birth and rise to power.
- FICTION STYLE RELIGION - Greek Mythology.
- HISTORY The Stages of Men are Golden, Silver, Bronze, Heroic and Iron.
The Golden Age was under the rule of the titans God, Khronos. This was a time of peace and luxury for humans. They were deemed 'immortal' due to their extremely long life spans and only dying of old age. These humans walked and shared the earth with the God's. Food and water grew freely without needing to toil or farm. They were loyal to the gods and did not have pain or disease with no conflict neither. When they died, they became Daimones who looked after the humans after them. They still held a close relationship between the gods, acting like a median between the two. They work for Haides as ministers, servants, etc.
The silver age started after the fall of the Titans as The Olympians came to power. Humans were no long deemed 'immortal', but still had long life spans. The land was not as abundant as before, but the work was still very little. They lived like children for 100 years, needing to be tended to by adults. And their life's as actual adults where shorter. Worship had weaken as men grew ignorant and took advantage of the earth, making the God's more distant from them. Eventually, their impiety let to them being destroyed by god. They were not wicked and became Blessed spirits or Daimones. These Daimones were inferior to the Golden age ones.
The Bronze age were brutes and violent. They were made of ash trees and medal. They fought and destroyed each other endlessly that angered the gods. Land wasn't not as fertile and needed to be toiled. They had stopped worshiping the gods almost completely which decline their Morality. With the help of Prometheus, they humans tricked and defied Zeus—or Zeus allowed the trickery to build more reasons for rebuke. Check Prometheus & Epimetheus Chapter for more details. The last straw came from Zeus giving humans one last change by testing humanity. He visited King Lycaon who wanted to test Zeus' power of omniscience so he killed his youngest son Nyctimus and mixed him in Zeus meal. This enraged Zeus and punishment was set. Zeus and Poseidôn cause a great flood that killed everyone but the son of Prometheus, Deucalion and Pyrrha daughter of Epimetheus. Solely, they were takes to rebuild the earth. But due to their old age, they were instructed to tossed rocks over their shoulders as they walked. All rocks Pyrrha tossed became women, and Deucalion became men. The dead of this era were not blessed or honored.
The Heroic age were the humans tossed by rocks. Human of this era had a better connection between them and the gods. The mortal heroes demigods of this era are famous, and did alot in restoring a sense of peace. Most stories take place in this era famous ones being Heracles, Achilles, Menelaus, Jason, Odysseus etc. The age of heroes ended after the Trojan war when everyone had returned home.
The iron age was the last Heisod written about, their 'present' age and todays present age with no clear end. In this, men have started to struggle again and it is their most darkest period. They gods have withdrew from humanity almost entirely. There are no more great heroes and life can be a burden with hard work and corruption.
- STORY SUMMARY

They did not worship the gods and would trick them or be arrogant. A great flood was sent by Zeus and Poseidôn to clear their wickedness. Only son of Prometheus, Deucalion and Pyrrha daughter of Epimetheus remain to build new humans from scratch.

Prometheus is noted as a titan the creator of mankind, of fire and forethought. Epimetheus is the titan god of afterthought, excuses, and foolishness. They are both twins and sons of Iapetus, and brothers to Atlas and Menoetius. Titans who alsl—ironically—and been punished by Zeus in some form from their actions.
- ORGINS/AUTHOR

- FICTION STYLE
Mythology/Religion.
- STORY SUMMARY
Epimetheus is known for giving traits to the creatures of earth but running out when it came to humans due to his lack of forethought. Prometheus would steal fire and be punished and Epimetheus will be punished indirectly by being gifted Pandora. Pandora is a woman or curiosity who unleashed evil into the world by opening a bot she was told not to, leaving only hope. His daughter was the only survivor of a great flood and the stone she tossed over her shoulder became the new woman.
Prometheus is known for tricking Zeus in support of humanity, his creation. He tricked Zeus with the form of offerings to benefit humans, stole fire for human independence after it was taken as punishment and refused to tell Zeus which of his children was destined to dethrone him. Prometheus was punished severely by being tied to Mount Kaukasos were he was to get his liver (or heart) plucked out and eaten every day by an eagle He was saved by Heracles who shot The eagle and then had his spot replaced by Chiron who traded his life for his in Tartarus. Zeus and Prometheus later made up and he warned Zeus of another child potentially becoming stronger than him if he laid with Thetis. Zeus married Thetis to a mortal to avoid his fate, and Achilles was born instead. His son was the only survivor of a great flood and stone he tossed over his shoulder became the new man.
- HISTORY
Epimetheus does not have many stories other than his involvement with Prometheus. Prometheus has multiple stories but focusing on the select few.
- Epimetheus and Prometheus || Titanomachy Wars
The Titanomachy* was a 10 year war wage between the Titans (led by Cronus) and the Olympians (Led by Zeus) that ended in the Titans defeat and dismissal to Tartarus to be imprisoned. While this was a fate to most Titans—Both Prometheus and Epimetheus survived it due to saying neutral/siding with the winning Olympians. Prometheus had the forethought to see the Olympians victory and warned his other brothers, but they did not listen (Except for Epimetheus). Menoetius—God or rashness and violent rage was one of the titans who openly fought against the Olympians despite the warning and Zeus struck him down with a thunderbolt that sent him down to Tartarus.
- Epimetheus and Prometheus || Gifting creations
After the war, Zeus tasked Prometheus and Epimetheus to make humans/a new age of humans* and creatures to populate earth. Epimetheus took the main task of giving each animal a trait and Prometheus checked behind his brother's work. Unfortunately, when it came to humans Epimetheus had run out since he lacked the forethought. He was denied being given more traits to give the humans what they needed to survive, so Epimetheus went to his brother for advice instead. Humans themselves were made by Prometheus making him the 'Father' of mankind. He molded them from clay and had Athena breath life into them. Prometheus began to side with Humans over Zeus. With 3 cases leading to his and Epimetheus down fall.
- Prometheus || Trick at Mecone
One case is the 'Trick at Mecone' story. In this, while humans were designed to look like the God's, Zeus made it clear humans were to be dependent on gods and give them worship. They were to have a meeting on how humans will give offerings. Prometheus hunted a massive Ox that he split into two. On one side, Prometheus hid the good meat underneath the intestines of the ox. The other, he hid bones under the fat and offered for Zeus to choose for himself. Zeus chose the fat covered bones. The story splits here—some accounts that Zeus was actually deceived that ruin his pride. Others that Zeus knew he was being tricked and purposeful chose the fat one as an excuse to punish man's regardless.
- Prometheus || The gift of fire
He punished humans by forbidding their rights to both fire and technology—leaving them to suffer in the cold for the deception. Perhaps it was an act to soothe his pride or to prove why the humans must depend on the God's, but Prometheus stole the fire and returned it to the humans in their control. Which was the second case. He also stole some of Athena's wisdom. This gave humans the chance to survive better by making their own food and warmth, but also led to making weapons and war.
- Prometheus || Zeus's Punishment
Zeus found out quickly and punished Prometheus by having him chained to Mount Kaukasos where he would have his liver torn out and regenerated again daily by an eagle. He would stay her until being released by Heracles who shot down the eagle during the Heroes Age*. In some cases, Zeus gave Heracles permission to free him so his some can have a heroic act, it's an accident or while Prometheus is 'free' he could not leave until someone else took his place.
- Prometheus || Overthrone oralce
Later, Prometheus warns Zeus that if he had a child with Thetis, a sea nymph, that child will grow stronger than him and overtake his throne—Just like Zeus had done to his father, and his father to his own before that. To avoid that, Zeus stopped pursuing her (for once) and married her to mortals, this led to Achilles and the Trojan war. But somehow, Zeus managed to completely avoid his fate. Another prophecy including Prometheus was again with one of his Zeus children rising above him. Prometheus knew but refused to say who the child or mother was, this is also one of the reasons that left Prometheus chained to the rock for punishment with the promise of his release if he either tells Zeus or becomes free and have a immortal take his place (Chiron).
- Epimetheus || Pandora's Box.
In Pandora's Box, Epimetheus is warned by Prometheus to never accept a gift from Zeus or his kin. This is because while Zeus had already begun to punish Prometheus, he was still angry and wished to extend that anger indirectly. Zeus commissioned Hēphaistos to craft a woman, Pandora, who Zeus gifted Epimetheus as a wife. Epimetheus agreed despite the warnings. Pandora was curious and she was also given a jar by Zeus in which he strictly forbade her from opening knowing she would. Eventually, Pandora did, making all sorts of horrors spill out into the world's like Illnesses, evilness and misery. It all poured out faster then she could close it. Once she was able to put the lid back on, the only thing left was hope.
- Epimetheus and Prometheus || Surviving Descendants
Eventually, Zeus had grown tired of the batch of humans due to their wickedness and the way they had forgotten to worship them with their hubris. He attempted to test humanity's worth through king Lycaon. Unfortunately, Lycaon doubted Zeus was a god and tried to test Zeus by feeding Zeus one of Lycoan's own sons (sometimes a hostage). This disrespect was a last straw and he, with the help of Poseidon created a big flood to wipe out all of mankind. Prometheus warned his son, Deucalion about this and instructed him to build a bot. Deucalion was married to his cousin, Pyrrha, who was the daughter of Epimetheus. They were the only survivors of the flood. But because they were old and cannot have children, they were instructions to throw stones over their shoulders to make the new age of men.

MODERN INSPIRATION.
Prometheus is widely referenced in literature like Mary Shelley's Frankenstein and Modern Prometheus. He is also represented in sports like the Olympics with its torch relay.
A semi popular English/American saying : Aren't you a modern day Prometheus? - a statement usually spoken sarcastically to someone who's acting like a know it all. Similar to saying 'Mr/Mrs. Know it all', or a 'smarty-pants.'
Sacrifices - The Trick at Mecone is a story of something's origins/explanations. Because Zeus chose the plate of bones, it allows for humans to keep the meat during Sacrifices and only burn the bones.
