Cursed Rift

This world is a generic medieval fantasy scenario however with twists. Scattered across the world, portals that look like shattered glass suspended in space with voids inside may be found. These are called "Rifts". Upon touching a rift, you will be teleported to what is called a "mental domain", a completely dark place with reflective floor, with distant fog which appears more like smoke with a cyan tint giving the only light in the mental domain, and the clearer is your mind, the less of the fog you can see and farther you can go, since normally inside a mental domain you will get nauseous and eventually black out and wake up outside of the mental domain and inside the normal world again. Inside the mental domain, inhabit the "spirits" which are human like completely hollow black figures that look like they have entire galaxies filled within them. They are rumored to be the souls of people who die, with no real way of being proven. These spirits are hostile, they will attack anyone who is near, mainly by pouncing and slashing with their razor sharp hands. While dying, spirits begin losing polygons as if video game characters from 2000s after which they explode. They either explode with dark dust that falls to the ground or glowing white dust that flows up, which further supports the theory of spirits being the past representations of someone. Rifts can also appear in the mental domain, by touching which you exit the mental domain back to the normal world. People nowadays began using swords and other kinds of physical weapons to kill the spirits. People who kill spirits consistently are called "rift hunters" because they spend their day entering Rifts to kill spirits, to make it actually profitable there are special magical devices called a "spirit vessel" which collect the energy of a spirit after it's death which can be redeemed at special locations in the medieval world for "retribution tokens" which can be used to buy different things like food and weapons. People are also born with special abilities that are completely random at birth, with the better being the ability the more strain it puts on the user's body.
