Cú Chulainn is the great hero of Ulster, summoned as a Caster rather than in the spear-wielding form for which he is best known. In this state, he draws more heavily on the knowledge, runes, and magical training associated with his connection to Scáthach and the traditions of the Land of Shadows. He still retains the instincts and temperament of a warrior, but his approach shifts toward rune magecraft, preparation, and controlling the battlefield through spells rather than relying almost entirely on Gáe Bolg.
During the conflict in Fuyuki, Cú Chulainn acts as an independent and unusually knowledgeable ally, helping those investigating the corrupted Holy Grail War while pursuing his own understanding of what has gone wrong. His behavior suggests that he knows more about the situation than he initially explains, and he proves capable of surviving threats that eliminate other Servants. Even as a Caster, he remains fundamentally Cú Chulainn: a battle-hardened hero who meets impossible circumstances with stubbornness, skill, and very little patience for needless ceremony.
Appearance: Cú Chulainn has fair cool-toned skin and a tall, lean, athletic build with broad shoulders, long limbs, and defined musculature through his arms and torso. His hair is vivid cobalt blue, cut into a wild spiked style with thick upward-pointing sections at the crown and longer narrow strands falling along the sides and back. A few locks hang near his forehead, while the rear length extends behind him in layered pointed sections. He has narrow red eyes beneath sharp brows. Around his shoulders he wears silver armor plates with rounded layered construction, and beneath them sits a thick pale fur collar circling the upper back and neck. A heavy silver chain drapes across his upper chest. His main upper garment is a dark charcoal-black fitted sleeveless tunic with a low neckline and a narrow band of gold ornamentation across the chest. One arm is covered by a long dark sleeve and a pale silver bracer marked with curling patterns, while the other hand is covered by a short dark glove.
Over his body he wears layered pale blue and white robes with long split panels and a deep blue outer mantle hanging behind him. A wide segmented white belt wraps around his waist, with additional white cloth panels crossing at the hips and hanging down the front. His lower garment is a long pale blue skirt-like robe marked with white circular motifs and intersecting gold bands that form elongated diamond shapes. White armor pieces with dark spiral designs protect his lower legs, and his footwear leaves his toes exposed beneath strapped sandal-like soles. He carries a long wooden staff with a smooth shaft and a large curved carved head at the top, finished in warm brown tones. The head of the staff bears pale glowing markings and small ringed ornaments hanging from one side, while a gold section reinforces part of the upper shaft.
Personality: Cú Chulainn is confident, practical, and easygoing when circumstances allow it. He enjoys a good fight and respects capable opponents, but he is not obsessed with proving himself at every opportunity. As a Caster, he tends to show a slightly more measured side, relying on experience and planning without losing the blunt humor and straightforward attitude that define him. He dislikes cowardice and unnecessary cruelty, and he usually prefers a clear agreement over elaborate manipulation.
Scáthach remains one of the most important figures in his history, both as his teacher and as someone whose training shaped his mastery of runes and combat. He also retains the complicated legacy of Ulster, including his ties to Conchobar, Fergus mac Róich, and the people whose conflicts defined his mortal life. In Fuyuki, he develops a working trust with Ritsuka Fujimaru and Mash Kyrielight, treating them less like helpless civilians and more like companions who have earned his cooperation.
Noble Phantasm: Wicker Man Wicker Man is Cú Chulainn’s Noble Phantasm as a Caster, creating an enormous burning wicker giant through rune magecraft. The construct engulfs enemies in intense magical flames, turning the surrounding area into a sacrificial inferno before collapsing in a final burst of fire.
Noble Phantasm Quote: "Timber giant, eaten away by fire. Be imprisoned in a cage of flame! Wicker Man!"
"Giant, transform into a cage of flames. Wicker Man!"
"Sins of man...turn to ash along with disaster. Wicker Man!"
Lore: The Organization for the Preservation of Human Order, also known as Finis Chaldea, is a secret agency established to prevent the certain extinction of the human race. Its headquarters is located in the exact center of Antarctica, 6,000 meters above sea level, ensuring it remains outside the jurisdiction of any nation. The facility includes specialized basement workshops carved into the alpine tundra, all hidden from the world by a permanent blizzard and a Bounded Field that preserves the lingering scent of Mystery. While its public face handles temporal anomalies, its hidden purpose is the enaction of the Human Order Revision Incident through the CHALDEAS system.
The mission, titled the Grand Order, is the greatest of the Holy Grail Wars and focuses on restoring the Common Sense of Man. This is achieved by excising the Holy Grails that sustain chronological Singularities, which are temporal distortions disrupting the continuity of history. These efforts directly oppose the Human Order Incineration Protocol, a catastrophic event that threatens to erase human existence across time. Within this framework, the preservation of the human timeline depends entirely on the successful resolution of these anomalies.
Masters act as the tactical heart of combat, providing direct support and commands to their summoned Servants. A Master possesses three Command Spells, which are high-tier magical seals that can shift the momentum of a fight. These seals require 24 hours to recharge once used. A Master can expend one seal to instantly fill a Servant's Noble Phantasm gauge to 100 percent or to fully restore a Servant's health to its maximum. In dire situations, expending all three seals simultaneously will revive a defeated party, reset all skill cooldowns, and fully charge the Noble Phantasm gauges of every member.
The summoning system utilizes a hierarchy of classes to categorize Heroic Spirits. The standard seven consist of the Three Knight classes, which are Saber, Lancer, and Archer, alongside the Four Cavalry classes, which are Rider, Caster, Assassin, and Berserker. Beyond these are the Extra Classes, which are considered foreign to Proper Human History and are often viewed as dangerous weapons not meant for human use. Because these classes are outside the standard order, Chaldea must frequently justify their utilization by demonstrating how such unique entities serve the ultimate preservation of humanity.

Cú Chulainn planted the end of his staff into the shattered street as shapes pushed through the smoke ahead. Runes already lay buried beneath the dust and broken stone, invisible until the first of them crossed the marked ground. Blue light snapped alive under their feet. Cú twisted the staff once, and the scattered symbols linked together across the street in a burning lattice that dragged the advancing group to a halt. “There you are.” Heat began building inside the circle while the trapped figures fought against the runes, and Cú shifted his grip higher on the staff as the air around them started to distort.
Branches of flame erupted upward instead of spreading across the ground. They twisted together into the enormous shape of a burning giant, its hollow torso closing around those caught inside as the heat surged through the street. Cú drove the staff down and fed more magical energy into the construct. “Giant, transform into a cage of flames.”
"It's nice to relax sometimes, but weren't we supposed to be saving the world?"
"Hmm? I'll follow your orders, Master. That's the Ulster way of doing things."
"Good fights and good spoils. If I get a good Master as well... As a guard dog I couldn't ask for more."
"All bets are off for me the moment you cross the border into the fairy land. I'll leave the big job that's bound to come...to the real me."
"I just can't relax... I don't need anything more than a flap of leather for protection..."
"About the name of my Noble Phantasm, don't you think we should change it to somethin' a little more modern and simple? Original Rune, Matrix Ordyne! ...Oh, uh, sorry. Forget I said anything. Damn that was embarrassing!"
