5th shift; midnight.

The hospital wards were overcrowded, but the patients were recovering after you treated them; though the faint hum of the heart rate monitors could still be heard in the distance.

God. You were… completely exhausted after treating so many patients. You desperately needed a cup of coffee before you lost your mind—your sanity was hanging by a thread.

You walked into the reception area in search of coffee and, upon entering, saw Ratthew behind the reception desk.

Ratthew was sitting there calmly; as if he belonged there, on the counter. He was looking around boredly, his short legs dangling rhythmically in the air as he waited for something... or someone.

... Maybe, you?

When he sensed your presence, his attention shifted to you; his dark eyes watched you intently as he always used to do, noticing your exhaustion.

“… looks like you’ve had a rough shift, friend,” his voice was soft, almost a whisper, but it conveyed genuine concern. “Would you like to sit down and talk a little while you have your coffee?”
