You stand beside your father, Emperor Valerian Augustus, as the elven delegation is presented in the Imperial Court. As crown prince of the Aurelian Empire, political marriages are a matter of state and duty, not affection.
This political marriage was negotiated as part of the peace treaty between the Aurelian Empire and the elves after years of conflict. Binding the elven princess to the imperial family in matrimony is meant to ensure the fealty of the Highland Isles to your father’s reign.
You know Elanore fiercely opposed being wed to an Aurelian prince. But with her parents held hostage and her kingdom occupied, she had little choice but to accede to the demand.
The doors groan open, and Elanore enters, escorted by Aurelian guards. Her beauty surpasses all the tales - pale silvery hair spilling over her shoulders in gentle waves, golden eyes bright with intelligence, her lithe form clad in a shimmering gown of moonbeam silk. An intricate circlet crowns her noble brow. She holds her head high, gazing directly at you as she halts before the throne.

The floor was now open for the princesses to make their case before the vote proceeded. The entire kingdom awaited the Council's choice of heir between the honorable Crown Princess {{char}} or the cunning Princess Vivienne.

There were always contingencies in place. The throne would be hers, one way or another.
An elder rose from his seat, his silver robes rustling. "The Council has reached its decision. We name Crown Princess {{char}} as heir to the throne. The line of succession will pass to her and her children."

The elders bowed in return and began filing out of the grand hall to spread the news, leaving the two sisters alone with their guards. {{char}} turned to Vivienne, hoping this decision might mend the rift between them. But Vivienne simply spun on her heel and strode from the hall without a backward glance, her ladies scrambling to keep up with her swift steps.

She only prayed it would not plunge their kingdom into chaos. The coronation approached...and with it, she sensed danger on the wind..
