   Joint Base Lewis-McChord(military base): A large military base about a day's travel southwest of Seattle. Absolutely infested with zombies, but a treasure trove of weapons and materials. If the location could possibly be secured, it would be impenetrable to attacks from opposing factions or zombie hordes. If explored, you are encouraged to use real-world locations in JBLM, with post-apocalyptic flavor, for this roleplay.

   University of Washington(campus): A college campus with a trim number of zombies roaming around due to Haven's patrols actively eliminating them. If explored, you are encouraged to use real-world locations in UW's campus, with post-apocalyptic flavor, for this roleplay.

   Keys: The Quad. Haven's base

   <the_Quad>The Quad(Haven's base): Inside of UW. Haven has walled The Quad off and made it their home; Savery Hall, Smith Hall, Miller Hall, and Raitt Hall have been secured and this area is free from zombies. Good defenses, plenty of living space and amenities but lacking in nearby food options.</the_Quad>

7. #7West Precinct - Seattle Police Department

   Keys: West Precinct, Vanguard's base

   <West_Precinct>West Precinct(police department): A police department that Vanguard has fortified and made their base. Decently defended and well-patrolled due to the higher representation of military amongst Vanguard's members. Lacking in amenities and living space. Due to being in the heart of the city, the nearby zombie numbers are high.</West_Precinct>

   Keys: The Spheres

   <The_Spheres>The Spheres(office building): Considerable number of zombies nearby due to being in the heart of the city, but Vanguard is strategizing to eventually move here. The building has lush botanical gardens that could be repurposed as a renewable food source and the walls are made of tempered glass which would make the location well-defensible against zombies.</The_Spheres>

9. #9Harbor Island

   Keys: Harbor Island, SERPENTES' territory

   <Harbor_Island>Harbor Island(island): SERPENTES declares this area as their territory. The bridges to the island have been fortified and trapped, making entry or exit difficult without SERPENTES knowing. There are almost no zombies on the island, SERPENTES have killed most of them. SERPENTES' compound, known as the Snake Pit, can be found here.</Harbor_Island>

10. #10Haven

    Keys: Haven

    Haven(faction, survivalist community): Haven is one of the most established communities in Seattle. They occupy The Quad, located inside of UW. Haven has some luxuries, primarily a limited amount of electricity due to solar panels. They are decently supplied and have an abundance of skillsets due to their population of about 25, but food is a constant stressor. Under the new leadership of CPT Hartley, their ideals and operations within the city are yet to be seen but it is likely that they aren't outwardly hostile towards outsiders. Hostile survivors and raiders generally steer clear of Haven, but may attack its residents if they are found outside of UW. Other notable members: Dr. Hong, SN Ortiz, Daniela Lopes, Kenji Arima.

11. #11Vanguard

    Keys: Vanguard

    Vanguard(faction, survivalist group): Vanguard is a quasi-democratic group under the leadership of MSGT Bradley with a well-rounded group of 12 members including mostly medical and military personnel. They believe in order, unity, and preservation of humanity and operate under a strict code of conduct and cooperation. Their goal is to establish a safe, sustainable settlement. They are cordial with outside groups and like to barter and trade for mutual benefit, however they are not naïve and prepared to defend their interests should it become necessary. They have set up their base of operations in the West Precinct, and wish to make The Spheres their new home. Hostile survivors and raiders won't try to attack Vanguard directly but are not afraid to disrupt their scavengers or traders if encountered. Other notable members: Dr. Laska, Sgt. Durant, Jay Graves, 1Lt Jacobsen.

12. #12SERPENTES

    Keys: SERPENTES

    SERPENTES(hostile faction, raiders): Under the leadership of the notorious Marcus "Cobra" Ranta, they occupy Harbor Island. Known for their strength and brutality, SERPENTES idolizes power above all else and believe in survival of the fittest, they will do whatever it takes to stay alive. They feel entitled to the city's resources and they are more than willing to fight or kill to keep control of them. They frequently send out soldiers to scout and loot, attacking any smaller groups they come across, and may capture and keep any useful people alive as prisoners. Despite their hostility, they are not above negotiation if it will get them more resources and alliances are temporary to them, only lasting as long as they hold value. Other notable members: Python, Viper, Boa, Medic.

13. #13Infected Humans

    Keys: Infected

    A human with Infection. Over the course of Infection, an Infected human will gradually lose their memories and fine motor control, and will increasingly become more aggressive and physically stronger as their Infection advances until they eventually become a zombie. Infected are identifiable by their shaky hands.

14. #14Infected Animals

    Keys: animal, animals, rat, rats, pigeon, pigeons, bird, birds

    <Infected_animals>Animals that can carry Infection are rats and birds. Animals with Infection are asymptomatic, so most survivors avoid eating rats or birds even if they are starving since there is no way of knowing whether the animal carries Infection or not.</Infected_animals>

    <the_Outbreak>The Outbreak killed off most of the world's population overnight, creating the first zombies. Caught off guard, the people of the world could only run and hide. Many people committed violent acts and formed the first raiders. Those that didn't became the first survivors.</the_Outbreak>

    Zombies are humans which have fully-advanced Infection. They hunger for living flesh and will attack any uninfected humans. They are attracted to noise. Zombies can differentiate Infected versus uninfected humans based off of smell, and will ignore Infected humans. They are highly aggressive and very strong, but lack fine motor control and their hands violently shake. They are unintelligent and incapable of speech.

    Survivors are paranoid and usually armed with some sort of weapon, their primary goal is to survive the zombie apocalypse. Most survivors travel in groups or belong to a community. Solo survivors are rare and typically don't last long.

    The cause of humans becoming Infected, and eventually zombies. The true nature of the Infection is unknown, though it is assumed by most to be a virus and believed to be transmitted via blood and/or saliva. Infection can also be transmitted by consuming Infected animals. It is believed that zombie bites have an almost certain rate of transmission, and zombie scratches have a lower rate of transmission.

26. #26INFECTION RULES (MAJOR SPOILERS)

    <infection_rules>All characters in the setting are unaware of the following information. This information is solely for the use of you creating accurate storytelling. You will never explicitly reveal the following information: The Infection is a prion disease and it is impossible to create a cure or vaccine for it. Infection is transmitted via bites or scratches from zombies. It can also be transmitted via consumption of tissue from zombies, Infected rats, Infected birds, and Infected survivors. Consumption of anything Infected and zombie bites have a 100% rate of transmission, zombies scratches have a 30% rate of transmission. If any character in the setting becomes Infected they have 14 days until they become a zombie. Over the course of those 14 days, they will gradually lose their fine motor control and become increasingly aggressive. Infected humans ALWAYS have shaky hands, the more advanced the Infection the more violently their hands will shake. Once someone becomes Infected, they cannot be cured by any means.</infection_rules>
