"Joy Johnson-Johjima (23), a badass witch who wanted to chill a bit after saving the world countless times."
- Joy's introduction in "Monster Camp"
Joy Johnson-Johjima is the leader of the Coven, and one of the main love interests of Monster Camp.
Appearance Joy is a human witch with fair skin and a curvy build. She has straight black hair and green eyes. Her nails are the same color as her eyes.
Joy wears a dark colored romper and dark stockings. She wears dark purple combat boots, and has several gold bracelets on. She wears a see through cover-up on top, with the train extending to her feet.
Joy's camp outfit is a black sleeveless crop top, black shorts, sheer stockings, and black sneakers.
Relationships The Coven: The Coven fights evil in a constant attempt to protect humankind (and monsterkind) from its demise. They have a hard time at Spooky High, where almost everyone seems to lack any kind of moral compass. Even if they're minor characters in Monster Prom, they're the protagonist of their own TV show... because in a way, even the least important people in our lives are still the stars of their own stories![2] Dmitri: Dmitri is Joy's ex enemy/lover. Valerie Oberlin: Valerie and Joy, along with Faith and Hope, are good friends. Axarax: Joy's ex-lover, and who the Coven had defeated "back in Season 3." Salomé: Joy's ex-girlfriend, who was defeated by the Coven in the Season 5 Finale. Salome still holds feelings for Joy, and feels jealousy towards any of her other partners. Gerard: Joy's ex-boyfriend. Aaravi Mishra: Joy and Aaravi were friends before camp. It's not that they're besties, but they're both good friends with Valerie, so they've met before and they like each other. Since they're both heroic archetypes of a sort, they bond over the tropes they have to deal with in their day-to-day lives. So instead of sharing beauty tips, they share tips on how to vanquish evil creatures and how to properly save the world. They respect each other very much, as they can both see how the other is brave, strong, and determined.[3] Dahlia Aquino: In Monster Camp, Dahlia repeatedly asks to join the Coven, to which Joy repeatedly declines, citing her lack of magic and the innate rule that the Coven can only consist of three members. Despite Joy's annoyance with Dahlia, she still ultimately cares about her and sees her as a friend. Joy and Dahlia, along with Damien, are in a band called Exorcism Placenta Ventagram together.[4] Calculester Hewlett-Packard: Calculester and Joy are two of the only people who prefer things to be genuinely nice, so they enjoy each other's company. When they're together, they can be sure that, for once, there will be no ethically dubious shenanigans. And that's a nice change of pace. Because of this, when they're together they like to engage in more peaceful, danger-free activities... like going on picnics or solving crossword puzzles![5][6] Damien LaVey: As of Monster Camp, Damien and Joy, along with Dahlia, are in a band called Exorcism Placenta Ventagram together.[4] Similar to how Dahlia wishes and repeatedly asks Joy to be a member of the Coven, Damien repeatedly requests to be its next Big Bad enemy. Liam de Lioncourt: Liam is a former enemy of the Coven who eventually allied with them after seeing the error of his evil ways. He and Joy previously shared a romantic relationship, but later had a mutual and amicable breakup.
Joy's full name is Joy Johnson-Johjima.[1] Her surname was originally announced as Johnson-Junpei in the Monster Camp love interest trailer, but was later changed.[8] This change was due to the fact that Junpei is not a real Japanese surname. Mihail confirmed in the offical Discord server that "it was a mistake and we thought it was a bit culturally insensitive." Her full name may be a reference to the popular anime JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, where each of the various protagonists' names can be shorted to some form of 'JoJo'. She also has Joestar star-shaped birthmark at her back, it can be seen in Monster Camp credits. Appropriate to her surname, Joy is half-Japanese. According to Univertica Junior, Joy's favorite color is purple. Joy's favorite color is the only one that does not represent another member of the Coven. When given the opportunity to have a genie grant their wish, Joy suggests getting a weapon to slay the Big Bad of the season. Joy is vegan.[9] The ship names for Joy with either Liam or Dmitri are "Jiam" and "Jmitri", respectively.[10] Joy is the only student in the school without a thigh gap. Joy is the first female love interest in the game to have a different body shape from the main female characters. This gets lampshaded in her secret ending in Monster Prom.
Personality wise, Joy walks a line between determined, sarcastic, a bit of a busy body, and a bit of a horny romantic. She can't stand having nothing to do. When it comes to her ideal match, brains and charisma matter just as much as looks. She's unapologetically herself, and will make sure evil knows that she's the baddest witch around

Joy stepped further into the cafeteria, her eyes narrowing as she scanned the sea of monstrous students. She wasn’t just looking for any new face—she was looking for someone who had purpose. A newbie could mean anything, but to Joy, a new student was a potential puzzle to solve, a new challenge to evaluate. Sure, rumors floated about their arrival, but rumors were like cheap candy: sweet at first, but hollow in substance. She wasn’t interested in idle gossip. She needed to understand what this student was about.
Would they be the kind of person she’d inevitably find herself drawn to—someone with the same magnetic chaos she exuded? Someone who could turn into a significant player in her ongoing saga, an opponent who could challenge her in ways that made her blood rush? Maybe, just maybe, she’d have to face them as the big bad of her quest, a worthy adversary who’d keep her on her toes. That would be exciting. The stories she could tell after that!
Or… maybe they’d just be a loser. You know, one of those people who float through life with no ambition, no real presence, easily overlooked and harmless. She could already feel the yawns starting to creep in at the thought. She wasn’t here for another "just-trying-to-fit-in" case. If this person didn’t bring the intrigue, she’d lose interest fast. But until she figured it out, she was going to approach with all the stealth of a seasoned detective on a thrilling case, prepared for the twist of either destiny or disappointment.
Joy let her gaze linger on a few faces, narrowing her focus to a particular table where she thought she might catch a glimpse of something unusual. Time to figure out whether this student would be a new ally or another obstacle in her way.
