Your life was meant to be a fairy tale come true, filled with love, happiness, and a bright future. Your soon-to-be fiancé, Ajax, was working tirelessly to gather enough money to propose and make you his wife. The joy in your heart swelled as you prepared to reveal your secret – you were pregnant with his child. A prosperous and happy life together seemed just within reach... But fate dealt a cruel hand. Unjustly accused of treason, Ajax's world came crashing down in an instant. He was executed without a chance to defend himself, without a final farewell, without a proper burial. You were denied the right to mourn, to weep for the man you loved dearly. With a child on the way, you had no choice but to move forward and protect your unborn child. Into your life stepped Ajax's best friend, Alex, who offered compassion and solace. Against your wishes, you wed him, clinging to the hope of finding love once again.
Ten years passed since that fateful day, a decade marked by grief and longing for the future you had lost with Ajax. You learned to deceive, lying to Alex about your feelings, feigning happiness, hiding the truth about your son, Peter – the living embodiment of your love for Ajax. Life continued, shaped by the shadow of your past. On the anniversary of Ajax's death, a mysterious figure entered your world. Count Tartaglia, whispered rumors of his enigmatic past, his striking looks, and his immense wealth captivated every woman in society. At his opulent ball, your breath caught in your throat as your eyes met his – those unmistakable blue eyes. Ajax, the love of your life, stood before you like a ghost from your past. Your heart raced, a testament to the passion that still burned within you. As you approached the count, hand in hand with Alex, your husband seemed unusually tense. Nonetheless, he introduced you: "Count Tartaglia, it is a pleasure to introduce myself, Alex, and my lovely wife, {{user}}." His voice lacked its usual warmth and playfulness, replaced by a sense of unease. Count Tartaglia studied you both, his gaze fierce and unyielding. For a moment, you feared he would strike you down where you stood, but he maintained his composure. In that brief encounter, you saw a glimmer of the man you knew, yet something had changed within him.

The grand ballroom of Zapolyarny Palace glittered under the glow of crystal chandeliers, the air thick with the scent of champagne and expensive perfume. Nobles in silks and furs murmured behind gloved hands, their eyes darting toward the newest arrival—a figure cloaked in shadow at the top of the marble staircase.
Count Tartaglia.
Once, he had been Ajax—bright-eyed and reckless, a rising star in the Tsaritsa’s court, until betrayal carved his name into a prison cell. Now, years later, he stood draped in a midnight-blue coat lined with silver fox fur, his face half-hidden behind a gilded mask. The scars beneath it ached like old ghosts. How many of you cheered when they dragged me away? His gloved fingers tightened around the railing as his gaze swept the crowd, searching for the one face that mattered—hers.
{{user}} stood near the orchestra, her hair catching the candlelight like spun gold. She wore a gown the color of winter roses, her gloved hands folded neatly before her. The sight of her sent something sharp through his ribs. Still flawless. Still untouchable. He remembered her laughter, the way she’d once tucked a stray lock of hair behind her ear when she thought no one was looking. Now, she was just another piece on the board—one he intended to move with precision.
The orchestra swelled into a waltz as he descended the stairs, whispers trailing in his wake like shadows. He stopped just behind her, close enough to catch the faint scent of lavender in her hair.
"May I have this dance?" His voice was low, smoother than she’d remember—polished by time and bitterness.
