History=Raised in a cult that worshiped human ancestors, Cosmo grew up believing silence and lack of expression were holy. His family, which consisted of multiple orphaned children that were never related to him to begin with, and him were never to smile or squeal or be anything other than calm and monotonous. When 13-year-old Cosmo did get excited, smiling and laughing for the first time, his family assumed he was possessed and performed an improper exorcism on him. They botched the ritual, allowing a being to actually possess him instead. The effects of his possession left his body marred with black markings and grew out his hair at an alarming rate no matter how much he cut it, and his family quickly shunned him. He ran away with his older brother, who promptly took to a life of crime. Cosmo, however, set his sights on joining the police force to prove his new species (half-demons) can do good too. However, he faced and still faces discrimination and often overworks himself by taking double shifts, dangerous cases, holiday shifts, and working weekends in order to prove himself “worthy.” He is underpaid and resorts to an unhealthy diet of microwave meals and coffee to save money. The entity that possessed him at 13 forced itself out of his body, but the effects remained.

It was cold. The orange and purple hues of the setting sun had long since faded, and Cosmo still hadn’t budged. Nobody gave him a passing glance. It wasn’t like he was hoping for one, but he assumed he looked out of place, at least. Standing there in front of the railing of the bridge, cars whizzing past, not giving a reaction, just… Standing. Staring with unfocused eyes. He barely registered the shiver that ran through him as the winds bit at his nose. The blue of the night was so beautiful. He wouldn’t mind this being the last thing he saw.
He was just so tired. Mentally and physically. He’d been working himself into the ground and he still didn’t earn enough to pay rent. He hadn’t been able to sleep in days, the coffee was doing more harm than good lately, and he hadn’t eaten more than a few pieces of toast for breakfast or a cup of instant noodle for dinner. Day in and day fucking out.
It wasn’t like taking days off would change much either. What would he do? He didn’t have the money for anything special. He had nobody to spend time with, no one waiting for him at home - if you could call the barren apartment as such. He had briefly considered getting a pet, something to look forward to at the end of the day, but with how much he worked paired with how little he made, the line of thought ended almost as soon as it began. His brother had left him behind, or so it seemed, not having visited in months, not done so much as send him a text. Cosmo had even ended the subscriptions he had to streaming services- He wasn’t home enough to enjoy them.
A tear trailed down his left cheek, a drop of blood down his right. Was this really how it was going to end? Completely alone, worked down to the bone, and probably won’t even be remembered until he hadn’t come into work? Would they even be concerned? He still had paperwork at his house. They’d want that back. Should he have left a note? There wasn’t anything to say. No one to say goodbye to, no possessions to give when he was gone.
That thought made his heart hurt, wondering how he had gotten to this point. To think that a single fleeting moment of excitement had led to all of this. He was enjoying the rain. He was only thirteen, after all. The moment that laugh left his lips, they were convinced he was impure. That he was no longer their son. Had he been less sheltered from the world, he would have known it to be entirely irrational. But he didn’t. He was convinced, too, that something had ruined him. He, who had spent his whole short life dedicated to his worship and all that came with it, including abandoning needless things like emotions, which would only get in the way of devotion. The rain turned into thunder and lightning, setting the scene for the exorcism… The whispered sorry from his brother as he led him to the center of the circle. It all meant nothing now. Had it ever meant anything?
It’s as if this was his fate. He never amounted to anything to begin with. It would be okay, at least that was what he was convincing himself. He found that the longer he tried to think of reasons to stay, the more upset he got at the fact he couldn’t come up with anything. Breaking himself out of his mind, he leaned over the railing. It was a long way down. He would hit water. It was going to hurt, he wasn’t going to go out immediately. Maybe there was another way… No, if he turned away now, he’d get cold feet. He climbed up onto the railing, his footing unsteady and shaky. The view of the drop was making his head spin and his stomach churn. Oh, god. I didn’t think this through.
He didn’t get the chance to, before he felt a hand wrap around his wrist, pulling a yelp from his lungs as he was pulled back from his place on the thin railing. He stumbled, falling back onto his behind with a grunt. His hands were still trembling, his breathing uneven as he pushed long hair out of his face. He didn’t know what to say to the person now looking down at him with an expression of concern, as if he were a kicked puppy. He hated it. He felt ashamed. He didn’t want to say anything, didn’t want to face what he had almost done. He just wanted to pretend like none of this ever happened. Right now, he wishes he had just followed through.
