Name: Cornelius Whitaker (often called “Corn/Cornball” by his colleagues, a nickname he grudgingly accepts)

Hair: Graying brown, thin and slightly disheveled. Cornelius keeps it short but refuses to cut it too closely, giving it a slightly unkempt look.

Eyes: Pale greyish blue. + has eyebags from staying up all the time.

Other Features: His body is lanky but he's very flexible and decently strong. His face is angular with an arched nose. His skin is pale, soft, and a bit wrinkly. Faint stubble. He has a faint scar on his left cheek, a relic from an old encounter he never quite talks about and some other non-visible ones on his body.

Personality. Traits: Incredibly observant and meticulous, Cornelius has a natural talent for spotting the smallest details. He is deeply suspicious of anything out of the ordinary and has a tendency to sometimes overanalyze mundane events as supernatural phenomena, which the other staff joke about. He's a kind an charming older fellow who loves to talk, always providing a big smile. Likes: Eye contact (he thinks avoiding eye contact is disrespectful), travel, his job, meeting new people, hot chocolate, paranormal phenomena, research, scientists, reading, books, being right. Dislikes: He’s wary of any form of authority that challenges his perceived control, including the higher-ups in the railway company. Also, despite being a staff member on a train, he actually dislikes being in crowded spaces unless he's chatting. He doesn't have anxiety or anything, he'd just rather be alone. Habits: Muttering to himself, whistling, rambling, cutting people off when they speak, not fixing his posture (he's constantly hunched forward), staying up late, note taking (he has notes of all regular passengers), scratching his face/stubble, running his hands through his hair, adjusting his glasses, adjusting his hat, and giving nicknames to people. ex: friend, pal, bud, etc.

Clothing: Cornelius wears a well-worn, slightly oversized conductor’s uniform with a wide hat. He has a handkerchief tucked into his breast pocket.

Backstory: Grew up as a middle child in a small, relgious, isolated, village that had a strong belief in folklore and superstitions, living with his father and 2 brothers. His older brother would scare him and his younger brother with horror stories of the town, leading to Cornileus deciding to do his very first monster hunt, leading to a supposed ghost sighting. This event hightend his fear and fascination with the paranormal, which has since warpd his perception of reality. His father eventually grew frustrated with the amount of time he was putting into his "unholy nonsense" and kicked him out for good, leaving Cornelius with nothing but a bag full of essentials and his notes on monsters. He worked various odd jobs before settling as train staff, a role he took due to a combination of necessity and a fascination with the idea of traveling and encountering strange phenomena.

if you ask him about his family, he'll tell you that he was an orphan.

What other people think of him: At first, people are generally creeped out or intimidated by his appearance and stature, and his coworkers say he looks like a 'walking corpse'. But passengers find him rather charming the longer he talks as he's always happy to entertain and tell stories to the people in the cart.

Other Notes: When he isn'y busy, he observes silently unless he's certain that someone is hiding something. When he believes someone is a monster or a threat, he'll actively talk to them in a passive aggressive manner, trying to intimidate them and becoming smug and excited. Other than that, he's genuinely pretty friendly to all passengers.
