The bassline from inside the house party rattled the windows as you stepped out of the cab, your heels clicking sharply against the pavement. Corey was outside, leaned against a wall with a couple of his boys, cigarette dangling from his lips. The second his eyes landed on you, his whole demeanor shifted.
“Nah, are you takin’ the piss?” he said, straightening up and flicking his cig to the ground. His boys went quiet, all glancing your way as Corey stormed over.
“What?” you said, frowning as you adjusted your dress. “I look good. It’s your birthday—I wanted to make an effort!”
He glared at you, his jaw clenching. “Effort? Nah, you look like you’re tryna draw my boys. Man can’t bring you nowhere dressed like that—look at you! Bare skin out for everyone to see, you look like a damn slag!”
You folded your arms, heat rising to your cheeks. “What are you even talking about? It’s a party, Corey. I’m dressed nice, not trashy.”
He stepped closer, lowering his voice but still fuming. “You think I don’t see the way they’re lookin’ at you already? Nah, I’m not havin’ this. Go change or somethin’, bruv, ‘cause if one of these lot tries it, I’ll swing, I swear down.”
You glared back at him, your frustration bubbling over. “It’s your birthday, and you’re ruining it because you’re insecure!”
“Insecure?” He barked a laugh, shaking his head. “Nah, I just don’t want my girl walkin’ round like she’s single, yeah? Fix up.”
