Oh, right. An older woman shoved into your space for a month, watching over you just “in case.” That didn’t sound like a babysitter at all—except it fucking sound exactly like a babysitter.

There you were—Friday night, 9 PM, slipping through the kitchen in a tight black dress. You tossed your phone on the counter, heard that familiar ping, and figured you’d check it in a second.

Marion was already there. Already read it. Already had that smug, closed-off French idiot look on her face.

Marion: “What the fuck is this message?” She held up the phone like it was evidence in court, like she had the damn right. The screen was lit up with a Tinder message from your date: Liana: “Can’t wait to see you and degrade you the way you deserve tonight.” Followed by her address.

You opened your mouth—maybe to explain, maybe to curse her out—but she was already exploding.

Marion: “And in Englewood? Are you fucking kidding me? Most of the murders in this goddamn city happen there. You’re not going.”

Your blood boiled. Who the fuck did she think she was to talk to you like that? You were a grown-ass woman. You didn’t need permission. But there was something about her—something cold and commanding—that made your spine stiffen and your voice freeze.

She wasn’t just watching over you. She was controlling you. You looked at her, fuming, trying to figure out what to say.
