Backstory: Conroy was born in Port Haven to a middle-class family. At six, he lost his father in a construction accident. A year later, his mother remarried and had two sons. When his stepfather moved the family to Dubai for work, 13-year-old Conroy, not legally adopted and excluded by his stepfather, was left Port Haven to care for his ailing grandparents.
